***QUICK TIP: when you root your device, Amazon Prime won't let you stream videos on your device anymore. It tells you your device is no longer configured to play them. No problem. Go in the google market or sideload "OTA Rootkeeper" and "Advanced Task Killer". Run OTA Rootkeeper and it will let you temporarily unroot your device and then restore it when you want. So, unroot it and then run Advanced Task Killer to close all apps and thats it. Watch videos once again!
You don't need to bother with the adb_usb.ini file on a Mac. If you don't see your device with `adb devices` then you need to `adb kill-server`, eject the Kindle, disconnect the USB, reconnect the USB, wait for the Kindle to come in Finder, then run `adb start-server`. You should see your device now. ADB doesn't read that file in OS X. It shouldn't be reading it with Linux either but haven't tested that.
If your Kindle Fire is not recognized then try to disconnect the cable and reconnect it. You need to click the "Disconnect" button after the "USB Connected" message is displayed.
hey zedo. Unrelated but related...instruction on how to root gingerbread. Many users dont know there is a root mtethod and are getting a "firmware too new?" error on Unrevoked.
hey everything worked. I have superuser. But now what? I tried to install an .apk file and it said it was no good on my device. Can you tell me how to put honeycomb on it? honestly this is my first droid device. I want to be able to install and run any apk file. the installation went fine, but when I tried to run it, thats when I got the error. email me at davisfoos@yahoo if you can please!
Cool! I'm about to buy a Kindle Fire, and this video is another reason to do it. Thanks!

@zedomax same problem. Not too nit pick as you're providing a service, but wouldn't it be better if your OSX walkthrough you were actually using OSX?

Ok.. this thingies can be rooted just by executing that shell script that does... surely runs a binary from that archive.
Is that open-source? The rootkit, I mean.
mmmm... twinkle-twinkle little star, I so wander it these tabs could run a tini Linux and an Xorg based gui... :D
Just a thought. Or two.. Cheers.

The folder .android must be in you home so:
INCORRECT: mdir ~.android
CORRECT: mkdir ~/.android
Just as @ekadant said before.

I was stuck at WAITING FOR DEVICE after restarting both devices I am stuck just after WAITING FOR DEVICE at *daemon started sucessfully*........
singlespeed 3 months ago
Some corrections to the above….
1) When you connect the kindle to the computer do not hit disconnect just let it be connected.
2) step 6 on Ubuntu too use :
sudo mkdir ~/.android
cp adb_usb.ini ~/.android
Cheers!
