If you layered it differently--if you put the explosive between the plate and the blood bag--would it not give you a better splash with less blood? And, as a happy by-product, would it not muffle the flash and smoke, even if slightly?

the problem with the match is you cant put the squib under the condom to create an explosive blood effect. Create a real squib with wire and straw and place it under the condom. less blood to be used and better all around effect.

Made a few of these from latex gloves, ill post a vid when i get my cam fixed. cheaper, and less waste, you can get 5 decent squibs from each glove, and they aren't very expensive for a box. Although you lose some potential volume...

use a sewing needle to thread a single strand of steel wool through the side of a black cat. It will ignite immediately from rocket ignitor if you do it right.

The blood bag need alot more pressure. The fuse is a great set up and is almost fool proof.

So.... what exactly is the point of the match?  Why not just run the ignition directly into the firecracker? That way you dont have the delay and the lame flash as the match ignites, plus, thats kinda the point of the ignition- to directly ignite the explosives in an engine.

By the way- the the guy talking about putting the explosive UNDER the bloodpack- the trick is to stretch the bloodpack condom over the "armor plate" (yes you do want it to be ARMOR as it will be closer to the subject).

@majorgeneralguy That's why you bypass the fuse altogether and run the electric ignition directly into the explosive (in this case, a firecracker) in place of the fuse. By doing so you can lose the annoying flash of the match igniting(which ruins the effect if you ask me) as well as the wait time on the fuse. You hit the electric trigger and you get the pop right away. If you learn how to do it right it will work everytime (unless the firecracker is a "dud.").

I would suggest not buying trojan or any name brand condoms from any store. These will run you 7 bucks for like 3 condoms. Go online, you can get 100 condoms for 14 bucks or less. Or, go to any clinics in your area and they will often give you free condoms.

Good Vid! But I think that the blood is to runny, next time make your own, it should be as runny as syrup. As Flattoptommy said: put the explosive squib behind the blood bag.

Not really, real blood is no where near as thick as syrup, if it is, you'd be in for a massive coronary!

That type of blood is a bit dark tho I think, guess it depends on the type of bleed it is.

Neat idea on the squib, but I'd put the explosive under the pack instead of on top. It'll spray it out better.

yeah. I have a turt in my vids on making fake blood for super cheap, that even got featured on Indymogul!

I came up with a way to do a sudden gash, got the condom all ready and everything, then I lost my ducktape and haven't been able to test it, or find the blasted duck tape. :(

Not bad. I use a similar set up. My only advice is:

A) Put the explosive BEHIND the conom. it pushes the blood outward

B) cut the fuse off the firecracker, poke a hole into the firecracker, and slip the ignitor in. No fuse delay this way.

C) Score your shirt so the blood can escape. It's much more visually apealing that way.

the reason its not that best is because they put the firecracker in front of the condom. it needs to be behind for a better effect. and you might want to cut some little star shape at the point of the squib. dont make it to noticable though

i do special effects professionally, and you guys have a the right idea... there are just a few things i would suggest.

1. Tape the squib down onto the inside of the clothing, not the body, makes a better break and bullet hole effect, better blood spill too.

2. the more tape you use, the more pressure for the small explosion.

3. you can experiment with using your explosive behind the blood bag for a different effect, for most shots i use the squib infront too.
