back when he was with Joe Ely, he did some amazing solos. I missed Jessie Taylor, who had a bluesy driving style, so was suspicious when he joined Ely, but remember his first long solo in a set at Gruene - the entire place went nuts. Glad he's done so well since, but wish he'd rejoin Ely for a show or two, along with Lloyd Maines and some of the other alumni.

Wow! I never heard of this guy, but l was looking at a Guitar Player magazine from 1991 and it showed him holding this guitar in a PRS ad. Great player!

can someone tell me what that sorta signature chord of his he hits from time to time is ? See 2:33 for example. Some kind of blues 7th ? I dig that chord almighty...what a cat would love to jam with him anytime.

Yeah. He's p[laying an AM7 over the B bass line. The song is in B mixolydian which allows you to super impose an AM7 chord over that. Discard the third of the A chord and only play the root, 5th and Major 7th. Try that with a B in the bass and you'll hear it.

Dave G is a monster! Not only does he have technique, but he has the emotion flowing through every note he plays. I have everything Storyville has put out including a dbl live cd and dvd. But Storyville also had Dave Holt on guitar. He and Dave G had great chemistry. Both are great guitarist. Gotta love em! Great players!!!

sometimes when he hits the notes, it allmost sounds like if the sound where being played backwards (like when hendrix does that on final recordings).. How is that?.. Is it because he's added a LOT of compression?

He is also my favorite guitarist... as far as what I wish to emulate. The guitar in the vids? He always played a PRS McCarty Tremolo. Which is basicaly what the DGT model is but with Jumbo Frets and the normal PRS shape neck and his custom design pickups, tuners etc...

that is a PRS McCarthy. it was made for Grissom but for some reason they called it the McCarthy. He now has a Grissom Model available in four colors but they are back ordered for like a year from PRS.

It's a McCarty (not McCarthy) named for Ted McCarty who was Paul's mentor as well as president of Gibson. He was involved in developing the Les Paul model (probably more than Les) as well as the 335 and others.

It's a McCarty Trem. mid-90's if memory serves. They don't make those anymore, and they're getting harder to pick up on the 'bay. There is the new DGT Sig model, which is built to David's specs.

It's not a DGT, because the video is too old, and it doesn't have the correct knob configuration. It's not a 22 fretter, so it's not a McCarty trem. It's a Custom 24 Goldtop. Do a search for his '91 PRS ad, and you will see him playing this guitar.

If you look closely at 1:32 and throughout the video you can see he's playing through a Matchless head and a Marshall cab. Although the PRS is nice, that Matchless head is a hand made head that is thousands of dollars and the tone that is possible with it is simply amazing.

Looks like a Clubman. Although he's been playing Bad Cats for a while specifically the Wild Cat and I believe just pickup recently the Panther.  I own both Matchless and Bad Cat amps and both are top of the line!

Exactly - his tone, his sound, Its so unique and steaming. Sometimes I think that maybe Grissom doesn't sing so good - thats why he never got a cd out in his own name. He seems like a very quiet guy and only wants to be the sideman. Too bad - his my favorite.

That's a great point. Many guitar geniuses stray from the very (comfortable) position in the band that allows them to create with less pressure on them.
