You're hands down one of the top jazz piano players I've seen on YouTube! In addition to your sophisticated style, the quality of the sound is excellent, and your iPhone 4's video quality is quite good as well.
I've been playing piano since I was a kid; your videos always inspire me to get back into it and explore more jazz.
Just got a YouTube account for the express purpose of telling you how much I love listening to you play...How I've made excellent use of your Sophisticated Lady tutorial...and to add my voice to those requesting that you make a CD that your fans can buy!

Your playing ALWAYS amazes me!!! I am a gospel/classical pianist, and I would give my life to handle jazz the way that you do....PLEASE contine posting!!!!!!!
@thehosting1 I did push it pretty far out from the original. I very much like doing that. It can make it a bit more of a challenge for the listener to follow the song. Even when I'm playing against the changes, I'm still playing the song in my head :-)
As always a supurb rendition. I like the moderate tempo. Re the comment on solo playing without base, I miss an occasional episode of stride in jazz solos these days. Would have gone really well with this. What do you think?
First, Congratulation for you video ! As always, top notch quality and playing.
I have a question about piano solo, how do you deal with the fact that you need to do the work of the bass and comp with you left hand ? I don't know if you can explain it or do a tutorial about good piano solo voicings.
very sweet! looks and sounds great, great post, ***thank you*** ! I especially like what I would call the 'restraint' aspect of your coolness here. one of my very very favorites of many great posts !!! .... unrelated, but have you heard natalie merchant sing 'one fine day' ?
i cannot describe how much i love your playing, style and your way interpreting things in a unique way. ive been following and learning aloooot from you and your videos. thank you for your beautiful work.
Fascinating... how that piece of cobweb is hanging above the piano, dancing to this amazing interpretation!
Kidding.
I also just realized you play on a S&S, although you used to play on a Kawai for a while... I guess the pianist's touch took over the actual sound of the piano. ;)
Great stuff, and I found the melody to be quite obvious. Sometimes even too obvious, but then I like my stuff modal.

love everything second of it. Nicely done.
One drawback maybe: there's no clear progression all through out the impro... I didn't feel like l knew where you were leading me. What do you think?

sounds awesome and I wish I had your theory lol. The changes are great and so is the jamming at the beginning and end.
But I cannot hear the original melody anywhere?
nezkeys79 1 year ago
@nezkeys79 It's the 'Cry Me a River' jazz standard, not the 'Cry Me a River' Justin Timberlake song (two very different melodies haha)

Of course I know what it is. I'm offended you think I wouldnt

Well done! Having been introduced to the melody of this song, I scrounged around my fake book in hopes of finding the title in the table of contents.
I have the transcriptions! this is the next song I will learn to play after I learn "How Deep is the Ocean."
