  • O B A M A~!

  • i always wondered if frank was embalmed to become the ultimate plastic person, i always hid this album from my parents when i bought it in 1968,,,, i thought i was cooler than other kids because i liked zappa, the way some kids act like simon cowell today, even though they can't play anything except a computer mouse ,lol

  • that s the kind of zappa s song i really love, fun, rock , withsound effect or talking stuff it s like a box full of different stuff that you can listen again n again n each time discover something diff, some intrument u didn t notice, some phrase you didn t notice ( i m french so i dont get everything on a first listenning)i love his humour also , very corrosif, criticism of a society that is far from perfect, zappa is a warrior fighting stupidity and hypocrite morality etc

  • this song gave the name to the best Czech undergound band ("Plastic People Of The Universe"), started in 1968 just a month after Russian invasion to former Czechoslovakia. So Zappa became a part of Czech history, too!

  • Where's Frank when we need him? We should have kept his brain alive!

    Zappa for President!

  • This was all-too-true for me in high school and college. I was a very sad young man in the 1960s. Frank is truth.

  • this songs about sheeps

  • zappa is a fucking genius, he composed return of the monster magnet, brown shoes dont make it, king kong, music for electric violin and low budget orchestra (with JL ponti), little house i lived in, and many more masterpices, he is thee best rock composer and one of the greatest music composers of 20 century, obviously theres a lot of avantgarde composers with incredicble music, but zappa puted in his music an artistic vision the the others dont have.

  • @progreadicto yup...be a jerk and go to work....and Jean Luc...good ol days of rock and roll

and it can't happen here would suit us well now ya think?

  • great album. 'duke of prunes' has true longevity, like all great songs, doesn't matter if it was recorded five minutes or five decades ago.

  • I know zappa produced some of the caps stuff but they fell out later. Probably coz zappa wanted him to play meaningless drivel to subvert the youth. I not saying the cap is crystal clean but he kept his principles and kept producing art regardless of sales.

Hicks quote: watch?v=ti73SgrLadU, he uses it to refer to former artists who sell corporate products, but i use in regard to former artists who venture into the world of politics and PR, as zappa did. ....cont

  • @Gajahmatik

And to call Zappa a "composer" is an insult to true musicians who make our lives better by producing real beautiful musical gems.

Here is an acid test, if you met someone you really fell in love with, and you wanted to learn a song to play them to inspire in them respect and perhaps love for you, would you learn and perform this song outside their window in the dead of night? Would it inspire love? or disgust?

I consider this "song" an abomination to the concept of music.

  • @sidvidkid Obviously, you haven't heard any of Frank's orchestral pieces. Just listen to "The Yellow Shark" (especially it's movement "Outrage at Valdez"), and I think your opinion of Frank and his music might change. He was, IMO, one of the most versatile composers modern music has ever seen.

  • @sidvidkid My girlfriend would probably marry me if I played this for her during a romantic evening. Music does different things for different people. You sound like you should be intelligent enough to get this. Frank Zappa's music inspires me (and many others, including my girlfriend) to live, love, and laugh. Great music with great personality. It's beautiful, much unlike your sour attitude.

  • @FrankZappaInATux

some people also like lady gaga, with all due respect what your girlfriend likes doesnt mean anything.

like i said before, how long did it take him to write this? 5 minutes? 10? seriously?

its like saying a humourous comic book is the same as shakespeare

comic books inspire me to laugh sometimes, that doesnt make them literature

  • @sidvidkid To sum up the other comments, I think your view of music is idealistic. It's not always about emotional relevance and this is emotionally relevant to some people yet. It's a masterpiece of musical progression and avant-garde, and he has many many beautiful genius pieces that validate him as composer. Think about what music was around when this was released as well. Hope you can change your mind.

  • @Imptheshrimp

isnt idealism what makes real art?

Ok convince me, show me some of zappas pieces which validate him as a composer.coz i genuinely think he wrote this piece in about 5 mins probably sitting on the can.

i include here a link to a real genuine avant garde artist who genuinely produces strange beauty that inspires and uplifts. zappa pisses me off worse then gaga or britney coz they are talentless oafs leeching off real talent like this:

    watch?v=iqRHr5pEIFU

  • @sidvidkid I don't believe idealism is at all what makes real art. A lot of art is made through idealism, but a lot isn't. A sense of grandeur can be the most inhibiting as well as motivating artistic factor. There are many many pieces, the most well known being Peaches En Regalia and Inca Roads. He has many albums filled with classical and jazz works that are very musically interesting. I don't know if you know this, but Beefheart and Zappa were the best of friends...

  • @Imptheshrimp

and here is the real zappa watch?v=B9856_xv8gc

hes not an artist at all he is a corporate sh1t stirrer.a "culture creator" i believe the industry term is.

he is a PR campain, a marketing ploy for the "tune in turn on drop out" generation.

anyone who appears on crossfire is off the artistic register, 4 ever. to quote another genuine artist bill hicks.

  • @sidvidkid He isn't really at all. I can't tell if you're serious, you seem to have a decent idea of what you're talking about. He's there, from what I say, arguing against censorship as he's done in many places in the past. I'd also like to see a reference for that Hicks quote, I don't think I've heard it anywhere.

  • @Imptheshrimp

cont...artists create art, politicians and PR people appear on shows such as crossfire and try to influence public opinion with meaningless words. Him appearing on this show proves he has an agenda. How can anyone know what is right for everyone? They cant. Only people who have hidden agendas try to insinuate their beliefs onto others to drive their agenda,as zappa did. That makes him a politician. No true artist would ever do such a thing...off the artistic register

  • @sidvidkid

i listened to the peaches and inca roads tracks you recommended, and they are heaps better then this one, in a completely different league.

I dont doubt that zappa had talent, my original point was that he wasted his talent making dross like this plastic people and other juvenile depressing uninspiring works.

I have this argument with my gf in regards to modern art regualarly. she paints nice pics, but i hate some of the ridiculous modern art, seems like monkeys made it

  • @sidvidkid

ever see some of the "modern art" sculptures in public places?

Some of them make me want to cry there so depressing. this song makes me want to cry also, along with britney, gaga, also the shocking disgrace hip hop music has become, it was once the voice of the downtrodden now it is the voice of talentless thugs. i see this pattern everywhere in society as all of our art gets corrupted and bastardized. but yet buskers n street art is amazing! something's wrong...

  • @sidvidkid I've messaged you in reply

  • @sidvidkid This album is terrific and moves me, Zappa's compositions are well detailed, unique, and entertaining with interesting timbre. I'm baffled someone who has put so much thought into this and seems to care so much about art can really be so blind to the respectability of Frank's work. Also to compare them to people like Lady Gaga. It makes me think (or hope) that this is all a big joke. Oh well, I'll continue enjoying and appreciating him.

  • @sidvidkid i agree. but there is still a lot of good music its just not as popular. john frusciante, cage the elephant, witchcraft, mgmt, the black keys. some great modern artists

check out my music too. its not zappa but i play for the same reasons

    /watch?v=oIytisdPEKc

  • @Gajahmatik

With all due respect, to call this a masterpiece seems bizarre to me. I love unusual music such as Captain Beefheart, Karen Dalton, Ozric Tentacles etc. All these artistes produce wonderful, soulfull, deep, intelligent and moving music. But Zappa's music just sounds like a bunch of teenagers aiming for shock value as opposed to true genuine beautiful music. How long do you think it took Zappa to write this, ten minutes maybe?

Like i said i think he is a genius, who wasted his talents

  • @SuperScorpio47

I may well be shallow and boring, but am i right? thats the real question.

  • @sidvidkid nope...your way off the mark buddy...sorry

  • The Czech band The Plastic People Of The Universe from the 70s and 80s who's music led to the fall of communism in Czechsolovakia are named after this song. They actually became friends with Frank after the revolution when he visited Czecholsovakia because of them.

  • He is the most sampled musician ...

MF doom sampled "Were Only in it for the Money" and "One size fits all ".. Thats how I discovered Zappa.. Im not against sampling as long as you dont sample him, because evrything Zappa did was completley original.

  • you know what happens when you throw a rock in a pack of Dogs, the one you hit screams the loudest!

  • I always felt like it was a great pity Zappa never really grew up. Like he tried so hard all his life to be 'different' that in the end he just sounded like an anti stereotype. Like he forgot the entire point of making music - to make something beautiful, not to a prove a point. And although he had huge talent, he wasted most of his life making uninspiring boring and shallow drivel such as this song. A great pity to see a genius wallow in their own ego.

  • @sidvidkid This song is a masterpiece! What are you sniffing?

  • This is the first Zappa I heard. Found an old record in my Dad's crate, threw this on and was wierded out at first. After the 10th listen or so I realized that it was genius. Til this day I regard Zappa as one of the greatest composers in American music history

  • @sidvidkid actually what's boring and shallow drivel is your posting.

  • frank zappa always makes me drunk and HIGH!

  • Found my copy of Absolutely Free at an estate sale for a buck! :-)

  • Listen to old czech band Plastic People of the Universe :)

  • the best, I havnt stopped listening 6 months ago when i first discovered the master

  • @banditandlotis

He has that affect on people. You're definitely not the only one!

  • ahead of it's time, 40 years later - the George Carlin of Rock

  • i love this music and im 21

this weird shit is the dizzal

  • I understand...

  • Zappa is the original product, in many if not all is differently musical, formatted.

  • Zappa was certainly an influence on early Punks

  • @lorax121323 If he was they'd know how to play.

  • "you think were talking about someone else"

Plastic People listen to Frank Zappa

  • my reaction to the beginning was like "hey! It's like today!" lol

  • This album brings back alot of smokey memories. Good Stuff. Frank tells it like it is and puts his own spin of humor to it. Love it

  • frank zappa predicted the plasticity of our age, thats how much of a genuis he is

  • Man gotta say this brings back memories, I was in the Army when this was released ,a good friend of mine got Absolutely Free and introduced me to Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. I loved this stuff .Cool.

  • One thing is to play guitar in a club to 100 people and get a clap, but play guitar to 100,000 and egtt a standing ovation and that my friend is a big difference and Zappa did just that! Even Kiss in the day was hot, but could not do what Zappa did,.

  • i hear the cold world sample loud and clear

  • Plastic Bertrand remains one of the most important and vital of our performers, and a continued influence for generations to come, while Zappa is largely forgotten: a mishmash of stale avant gardisms and dated satire.

  • Valley girls and flakes also. Sheep . commercial culture makes for commercial minds.

  • Valley girls and flakes also. Sheep .

  • He kinda sounds like Bush. In both sound and well, not-all-there-liness

  • A IN/FAMOUS MM CREEPED AROUND LAUREL CANYON

  • I dont know either

  • Can any of you real Frank Zappa fans here guess who "and there this guy from the CIA and hes CREEPING around Laurel Canyon" might be?

I wont tell you what I think

  • @clockworkplumbs I don't know, but I do believe they reference him in the track Telephone Conversation on We're Only In It For The Money.

  • lol Louie Louie has no real lyrics XD

  • in a gadda da stavinksy

  • putrido

  • "Is that a REAL pancho, or is that a SEARS pancho?"

  • @eluap she was a magic momma, with gray green skin

  • Another hillarious classic from the maestro zappa!! RIP:(

  • "...he's been sick ..."

  • I'm getting tired of you, I don't know it's your hairspray or something.. or IPOD OR TRIVIAL INFORMATION OR REALITY TV SHOWS OR FAKE LAUGH OR DEPRESSED POINT OF VIEW OR YOUR TWITTER OF YOUR FACEBOOK FRIEND GROUP ...wow we really have gone off the edge today haven't we?

  • @oatstao Yes, tragically, we have gone completely off the edge today. I'd love to hear him write about it....I miss him soo much!! ♥

  • The initial riff sounds like Wild thing

  • @jumpinjackflash1968 it's probably based on that chord as Zappa mocked the Louie Louie chord progression for years.. but we all know he loved that to death too.. Preston played it on the big Organ when they played England the first time.

  • @jumpinjackflash1968 it's Louie Louie, dude

  • @jumpinjackflash1968 but I just noticed that Zeppa DOES go into the Wild Thing riff on the song "Flower Punk" off of We're Only In It for the Money

  • i dunno know sometimes i just get tired of ya honey its your hairspray or something. that always makes makes me crack up

  • @finalvinyl66 Exactly. This song is becoming more relevant by the day.

  • Help, I'm a cop!

  • Help, I'm a rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lili!!!!

  • What is hardest to believe is that when he wrote this the prevalence of plastic people was MUCH less than it is now. And yet he addressed it! But I'm sorry to say Mr. Zappa, Love too has now become a product of plasticity.

  • isn't there still some paaastique people about? What about the Nazis running your town? What about all the questions???? Qui !

  • @rowzenator There are more plastic people and Nazis than ever.

  • does frank zappa have any normal songs?

  • @Metalhead001122

The good question is : Do others have any " normal " songs ?

  • @Metalhead001122 What's normal? Metal?

  • wtf is GZA?

  • @Fry1077 seriously?, you don't know who GZA is?

  • @MB71475 nope, who are they?

  • How truly prescient this was!!!

Mr. McGuire: I want to say one word to you. Just one word.

    Benjamin: Yes, sir.

    Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?

    Benjamin: Yes, I am.

    Mr. McGuire: Plastics.

Benjamin: Just how do you mean that, sir?

  • Nothing like mixing a little Stravinsky like melodies into a sophisticated pop ditty with amazingly deep and perceptive lyrics. Timeless music. It's amazing how most people would discard this after a few bars, thus missing out on music which will last for centuries.

  • @curiousnomad This is unlistenable garbage and I like MUCH of the later FZ stuff

  • @JacOLanternMovies

    I remember MY first beer.

  • @JacOLanternMovies Hey, I know. But think of the equipment they had to work with then. I admire the attempt at modernism allowed in part by the age of experiment then. Mostly It's the unapologetic satire in the lyrics that I admire most.

  • @curiousnomad It's timeless music huh? What kinda drugs are you taking?

  • @curiousnomad

When that came out, I was 15 years old, and a friend who had bought the record, dismissed it and gave it to me. Not having a lot of music in the house, bit by bit, I started listening to this. At first I thought it was funny, but not my cup of tea. Six month later, I got rid of my two Beatles albums, and never looked back...

  • @fastnbulbouss I love Frank!

  • @curiousnomad Stop ripping off what other people say in documentaries. tard face.

  • I waited for twenty years to hear someone make fun of that dumb 'Louie Louie' song. Thank you, Mr. Zappa!

  • @dharmaseed Zappa actually loved the original Louie Louie by Richard Perry. Perry was one of his idols. That's why he refers to Louie Louie often in his work. It's the famous Kingsmen version that he hated.

  • @mrblondnyc Hmm, I haven't heard that version, but can understand his (or anyone's) dislike of the Kingsmen version. Thanks for the info that someone else did it first.

  • @dharmaseed Uhh, the Kingsmen never recorded this song, let

alone understood it. Zappa and the Mothers did record a hilarious

live snippet of "Louie Louie" which can be found on the "Uncle Meat"

    album.

  • @finylvinyl66 Right, I know that. 'Plastic People' was a parody of Louie Louie. I was referring to Richard Perry doing 'Louie Louie' before the Kingsmen.

  • @dharmaseed The only thing the song has to do with "Louie Louie"

is at the very beginning. Many artists did "Louie Louie" before or about

the same time as the Kingsmen. (Paul Revere and the Raiders, for one.)

  • Zappa. Always spot on.

  • One time my sister said "I just turned on the cd player... some weird music is in there." She was talking about this song

  • WELL....this stuff seems to have a good shelf life,

there was nothing else like the mothers then

seems like we could 500 micro grams. of this today

  • mitico

  • Einfach jeill.

Since everey Jears y look of the fantastik LP " Motermania".

This Part is one Peace of this. Thank You for that.

  • Zappa was a beast....just a singular piercing voice in a plastic music industry. the media wouldnt touch him cause he was in most cases smarter than they were concerning social customs in america....

btw the hip hop artist MF Doom samples Zappa and George Duke repeatedly

  • Alot of us, back in the late '60's and '70's, plugged into this album because we were the loner/individualist crowd in HS, not the "social" ones, playing a plastic, fading game. We dared to be ourselves, and still are, eh gang?

  • This guy is the shit! (:

  • Zappa is time less! I listened to & got want he was saying 35 years ago and it's a perfect fit to what we Have in the White House today! Plastic, not real!!! Thank you Frank, way ahead of your time! Infact most will never get "it" what you're saying cuz they can't read between the lines.

  • Wow! Yes! At 1:13!! I would never have spotted that in a thousand years!! I'm gonna send this video to my hip-hop loving, Zappa hating friend!! haha!!!

  • Poor Mr. Zappa, oppressed by soap.

  • I LOVE IT.

  • didn't hear the cold world sample!!?? great tune though.

  • eh?!!! its at 1:13!!!

  • @obilinx1 it's just simply the oboes and woodwinds.? Cool I hear the vibe but I'll have to go listen to cold world haven't heard that track in over 10 years. I respect GZA no doubt, but he was only paying homage to the true Genius , (excuse the pun) ZAPPA, because you know, who still has longevity and the message in his music is even more prevelant today, for any creed color or race... the wu-dynasty kind of loses it's point after the years especially if you wern't from the bouroughs.

  • @hejafish It's slowed and on a different rhythm

  • thank you for uploding this!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @chrids1 at the moment i'm uploading the entire album of absolutely free if your interested :)

  • ARF.
