  • mary looks good in polyester!

  • "Oh c'mon, Mare, stop being such a gloomy Gus." One of Ted Baxter's funniest scenes during the entire run of the show. Mary's out-of-character angry outburst is fantastic, as is her surprised reaction to her own behavior, which she demonstrated brilliantly as she looked straight into the camera without uttering a single word. This is priceless sitcom history.

  • @194jms

yes, it is. this is my favorite scene from my favorite show of all time....and Mary's surprised reaction to her own behavior had me laughing so hard, my parents got out of bed and checked to see what was so funny in my room...lol....the rest of the episode is just as funny...it was called 'The Good Time News' I think.

  • THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!

  • shes has long legs.

  • Yes, anti-American sentiment and the character limits on my comments often taint my views.

Ah, yes, the "ugly American tourist', they do exist. Saw my share in Europe.

From my week in Vancouver for Expo 86 to my many trips to Europe and Brasil, I make a strong effort to being a good ambassador for the USA.

On the other hand, negative bias by the foreign press and government also has an effect.

I was shocked at some of the BS stories my wife Maria told me were considered facts in Brasil.

  • During the 1960-70's, zero population growth with 2.1 children by American married couples was considered the ultimate way of preserving and protecting the environment and conserving resources.

A well done for the "Friends of the Earth", The Sierra Club, Paul Ehrlich with his book "The Population Bomb" and others groups for their great success.

But now they remain SILENT as millions of illegal Aliens sweep accross the nation cranking out " Anchor Babies" like rabbits, overwhelming OUR COUNTRY.

  • @rampking1 Well, there's a nice humanitarian attitude. Let's ship 'em all back so they can be overworked and underpaid and mistreated by their own government. So much about that crap about "huddled masses" and supporting the freedom of ALL men. Overpopulation isn't defined by borders. It's called "global overpopulation" and that means it affects everyone. Stop thinking about yourselves and help the rest of us fix things.

  • @spacecowboy5000 You are not answering why every environmental group within the USA remains mute on our recent HUGE increase in population.

So we should tear down the border and let EVERYONE in the world enter the USA?

FACT: over 75% of Babies in Los Angeles hospitals born to illegals.

BTW, the woman on the beach at my channel site WAS my wife from Brasil and due to backward and confusing divorce laws in her country, had her Green Card canceled so she was "shipped" back to Brasil.

  • @rampking1 Sorry. That really sucks. I always beleive in finding a "middle ground" in these kinds of situation. Any kind of extremism is blind to everything except what it sees. But having looked over the history and a few stats on this I don't think there IS a middle ground. Of course, letting them just pour over the border would be the worst thing - for both sides. Stopping immigration completely would cause serious dimplomatic problems.

  • @spacecowboy5000 I don't expect you to agree with me about all, I just don't want you to think I am some naive racist simpleton that are sprinkled about YouTube.

I was a member of the Sierra Club for over 20 years, previously lived with a Jewish woman for ten, married a woman from Rio de Janeiro 7 years ago and haven't had a pay raise for almost ten years.

With this well thought out comment of yours, we can agree.

Cheers to you and our friends in Canada.

  • @rampking1 I'm really sorry about misunderstanding your comment. Best wishes to our American neighbours.

  • @spacecowboy5000 No reason to be sorry, you didn't throw any insults at me.

I find it interesting to exhange ideas with people from all over the world on YT.

I may disagree but I find it informative to see and try to understand the perspectives of people from outside the USA.

Just three days ago I had to admit I over-stated my facts regarding another subject.

Back on the real subject here, MTM, especially on the Dick Van Dyke Show will always be the 'perfect wife' for me. :-)

  • @rampking1 You might run into a lot of anti-American sentiment. Don't take it personally. It's mostly a reaction to the US government and its policies abroad. Not to mention the prototype American tourist. :) About Mary... she caught my attention even when I was wee. Her energy, her smile... and she was so damned cute! Later I found out how intelligent she was and everything just fell together. In fact, she may be the reason I'm partial to brunettes. :D

  • @rampking1 I read about this group in Texas that supports the idea of a military strike on Mexico. Of course the fact that Mexico and the US are allies doesn't seem to have crossed their scheming little minds. Why not send them to Canada? Bring 'em all to Quebec and let them fight it out with the French seperatists. Joking. That in itself might be it's own WW3. In France - Paris in particular - they've been having a huge influx of Morrocans and Lebanese. It's so bad that it's gotten violent.

  • @spacecowboy5000 > "so much for all that crap about huddled masses"<

    Learn some facts:

In the last 3 decades,in sheer numbers or as a percentage of total population, no country in the world has legally accepted more immigrants and refuges than the USA.

My state, California will need to release 20-40% of our state convicted criminals from over-crowded prisons, while at the same time ~30-40% of all prisoners in our state jails are Ilegal aliens.

    Emotional arguments vs facts

  • @rampking1 Too bad the immigrants are all human. Guess you'll just just have to carve out their brains and replace them with electronics. Then you won't even have to pay them - you can program them to do all the work for free. Learn some facts: You totally ignored my statement "so much for all that crap about huddled masses". Which suggests you don't know what it means. Also there wasn't one emotional argument in my comment. Do you wear glasses? You should.

  • @spacecowboy5000 We have in fact taken in millions of 'huddled masses".

Can you name one country that has a better record of accepting immigrants?

Name me one and you win!

In fact over half the men I work with are immigrants from Asia and Central America.

Who is ignoring, see it everyday.

Our schools and hospitals are collapsing from the weight of immigration and you think we should accept more?

I make point after point and you respond with carving out brains/ replace with electronics?

  • @rampking1 Yes. Irony and sarcasm, sometimes used for dark humor to make a point. Again, the USA is soooo different from any other nation. Infrastructures all over the globe are disintegrating. Education and health care have fallen increasingly into the hands of the private sector which lack the resources to support the overwhelming need. Teachers and nurses are underpaid even though there's an increasing need for them.More immigrants have Ma's and Phd.'s when they come to the US than you think.

  • @spacecowboy5000 Yes, in many ways there is what is called a "brain drain" of immigrants leaving their own country and taking their education and trained skills to the USA.

Here in California the hospitals are full of Filipino nurses. My own personal doctor is from the Ukraine.

Hell, my buddy immigrated from the Philippines and served tours of Army duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Yet, we have millions of illegals who barely have a 5th grade education,

destined to be abused at work/underpaid

  • @rampking1 These men and women have real university degrees and have struggled to get them. But because they are denied even a green card, they end up driving cabs and mowing your lawns. Behind these individuals are families that have given everything up so that a son or daughter can become a professional. Also, are you taken about accepting immigrants 'en masse' or by percentage? After World War II many nations, including the USA, turned away countless ships containing nationless Jews.

  • @spacecowboy5000 I know all about the "glass ceiling" for educated women from other countries, especially Russia.

You saw the movie "Gran Torino"?

How do you think the Hmong people represented in the movie got to the USA from the mtns of Laos?

I worked for North West Airlines during the 80's and 90's, carried thousands of refuges from SE Asia to the USA, (your huddles masses who got political refuge status.)

There was one ship, not countless ships of Jews, but still very regrettable.

  • The only thing that's changed in 60 years is which abused group emmigrants is being left to endure suffering. Whatever their nationality these are people who seek refuge from a government that is oppressive. But as long as Mexico is an American ally, the US can't speak out against the actions of a corrupt Mexican government. Out east it's the Cubans and an oppressive Communist goverment. To the north, millions of Canadians violate the border yearly using cans of maple syrup as weapons.

  • I loved how Mary flinched as soon as she told him to shut up! doesn't anyone else think thats halarous???

  • you tell em' Mary! Haha how can you not love her??? <333

  • "Will you shut up Ted!" ♥♥♥ Love it!

  • That made me smile at the end, haha!

  • Ted Baxter: I've just been handed a bulletin. You've got something on your tooth.

Ted Baxter : Today unemployment is at an all time high. Is it high or low?

    Murray: High Ted.

    Ted Baxter: High Murr.

  • wow ~ they were touting life is bad back then !?!

The hippie’s turned yuppies ruined the whole dam country

  • @gloryoftheSon What a well-thought out "fair and balanced" opinion! God, I wish I were a conservative Republican, so I'D know everything, too

  • Ted was a douche...

  • I like the coda of the episode, when Lou promises to give Mary the raise she's been asking him for, and Ted snips, "You're giving HER a raise after she told me to 'shut up' on the air??". Lou shrugs, "It's all I could afford, Ted". END OF EPISODE!

  • Actually I bet that would increase ratings if it happened in real life on a news show.

  • "Oh come on Mare, don't be such a gloomy gus" lol

  • I just show this whole episode its season 3 episode 1 called the Good-Time News on hulu

  • what episode is this?

  • what is the name of this episode??

  • @GeorgiaRain7 I agree. Now they show Rosanne, Raymond, Home Improvement, and the reality stuff in the evenings. They've kept a few of the classics like Jeannie, Bewitched, All in the Family, and Sanford, but it is not a 24/7 classic show channel like it used to be.

  • @RetroJenny YES! Bewitched. The late Elizabeth Montgomery was playing Samantha Stevens at the same time MTM was playing Laura Petrie. No comparison... Montgomery was the better actress and her comedic versatility the stuff of legends.

  • @Shubael1809 Good grief, I wouldn't call either of them comedic legends. Get a life, please.

  • @jrg8008 We ALL have lives. You choose to be obnoxious in yours I don't. What the fuck is it to you who I find a "comedic legend"? Get laid.

  • Ted is right, Mary is doing the same old tired left wing takling points about the population.

  • @abc1000001 JESUS! Must you stamp your bloody politics all over EVERYTHING? It's a fucking TV show for the love of Christ! You tired old right-wing blowhard.

  • It took a lot of guts to silence the "pompos high and mighty Ted Baxter"!

  • Oooooh Mr Graa-aant!

  • Oh no!! She said a bad word 0_0

    yep....she's going to hell

  • what ep. is this?

  • OK, lol at: Ted's face at 0:41, Mary's face at 0:43, and Lou's face at 0:53!

  • ROFL! Good...

  • Her and Shanna Moakler look alike. Hell, they're both 5'8". I wonder if they're related or something? Shanna would make an excellent Mary for a next gen TV show or movie as Mary.

  • When this show and The bob Newhart show with Suzanne Pleshette were running together, it was one of the best eras for comedy on TV

  • yes what happened to tv land? all new shows, reality shows, scrubs and raymond, which EVERYBODY has.

  • If that'd happened in real life they probably would've both gotten fired.

  • Well, Ted should've shut up.

  • Wow, she is just gorgeous... I've been watching the Dick Van Dike show now and I like it a lot. Now I'm going to watch this show. Especially because she's in it. :P

  • The nervou inflection in marys voice when she tells him to shutup is classic mary richards. Great Clip!

  • That guy Ted talked just like John Kerry. REPORTING FOR DUTY! hu hu

  • MTM WILL ALWAYS BE BEAUTIFUL INSIDE & OUT---sorry bout the caps__old board

  • Hilarious. This laughed me into tears. It's hard to believe I'd never seen it before until now.

  • One of the funniest scenes ever!!!

  • ROCK ON, MARY WHAHAHAHAHA XD

  • I love this show always had the hots for mary she was a real women.wish they would put these shows back on tv land

  • True that! Mary Tyler Moore was one of the most beautiful women on '60s-'70s TV, with an understated class that always put her above the flashier types like Barbara Eden and Farrah.

  • @elborto552 she was the spokeswoman of capri pants, what a babe i was ya ya for her since i was 4

  • @elborto552 First off comparing Farrah Fawcett to MTM is apples and oranges. Mary's eleven years older than Farrah. Farrah's beauty in her heyday was unparalleled. Say what you will but no one compares in down home good looks like the late Ms. Fawcett. Barbara Eden? Yuck.

  • @elborto552 You CANNOT underestimate Farrah's singular beauty. Barbara Eden isn't even in the same league.

  • "Did I just hear Mary tell Ted to shut up on the air..?"

    "..Yeah."

    "Good.."

    Too funny!

  • Best show ever on television.

  • I love this show!!!

  • That was a great episode. Mary laid into Lou Grant about equal pay. My girl did not back down.

  • Just got season5 of MTM classic and the episodes are all intact not cuts to bits like the recent Shout release of Rhoda.

  • lol first onion av club post!

    lololol

  • Go Mary
