How do you get the Profile path and Local path at 2:07? It said I have to create it or something first. But any folder I create would be in the C: drive.
@entehrend You have to create a folder and then share it...what I put in was the UNC path to the shared folder on the server so that other computers can access it.
@mullinsJ08 My server project was fun, and it is cool to have a school-type network in your own home. If this is something one desires to learn, what does it hurt? I am sure I don't need a server either.
Well that's okay. I love home operating systems, but I don't know how to operate those server OS. We may be different, but we use Microsoft's creation :)
I setup my server 2003, how can i gave a streaming audio to someone in Bolivia, I set up the windows encoder to conect to my server 2003 and not one can listen.
we need more window server 2003 educational videos................please people wake up we can teach one to another using videos..........................lol
Yeah I know what you mean about user profiles on different partitions, which is what I do anyway. So far, some sources suggest an incorrect configured DNS, while others suggest profile, sizes etc but overall, its quite hard. I think its the DNS configuration something I don't always get right with the IP addresses. I'm open to other ideas if you have any. Thanks for replying.
What causes a roaming profile to load slowly on client PC's? I have 1 (server 2003 R2 ) and (2 Windows XP PC's) on my home network. Setting up roaming profiles is not a problem for me and it does work, but am baffled to explain why when I log on to a client machine which has been created with a roaming profile but takes 2 - 3 minutes to load. What causes this slow down?
@TheClaudos Hi. I find that it is better to have User's files stored on a different drive to the Active Directory. Eg. Windows/AD on C:\ and Files on D:\ or even better, have Windows on one drive, AD on another and Files on another.
@Wizkid187able The profile path is the UNC path to a shared folder on your network, e.g. \\yourserver\PROFILES\%USERNAME% (Typing %USERNAME% is handy, especially when working with multiple users because windows will automatically replace it with the username for the user or users that you are working with.
My school's network runs on Windows Server 2003. It's actually a pretty nice running system, though it runs really slow when there's a bunch of people on it, XD
Oh boy don't I feel your pain Phillips...I just got my first Cisco cert studying at home with only free resourses..(TRY THAT ONE!).now trying to apply for work where knowledge of MS Server and Exchange are required....POOF...THERE GOES CISCO INFO...RIGHT OUT THAT OTHER EAR. (ANYONE GOT EAR PLUGS?)
im learning all this shit on MSCE/MCSA course its fucking hard I've learned alot about networks DHCP/NetBIOS/TCP/IP Active.D event viewer etc its just its sooo hard remebering EVERY single detail I can only learn by watching it or doing it all the theory side of it just goes in my head and goes out the next day its soo annoying :(
Windows Server 2003 R2 is basically a Microsoft suit put out by Gill Gates group for persons and organization who work with networks. Thats a lame explanation...
The Linux comparison would be Novell Netware/Open Enterprise System. But Windows seems easier as I have used it all my computing life
Windows Server 2003 R2 is a "Network Operating System" that is used to create domain networks, host files, services and websites and other applications on networks.
I can't see Active directory in the list at the beggining... I just installed it and I can't find it...? And all I want is to share some files through my network so I want them to have users because some files must be hidden but I don't want them to be able to access via Remote Desktop... Any Idea what I should do?
Hi mate i starting a job next week monday and will be using server 2003 to manage a network of 19 pc's they told me sometimes the clients that use the computers cnt log in with thr user name, please could you explain in very clear terms and as if im an idiot as to what could cause this?
It totally depends on the message being displayed on the screen when the login fails. if its "The domain EXAMPLE is not availible" then that could either be the server is down or the network cable is unplugged or failing. Or if its "Your account is Locked out. Contact your administrator" then basically you need to "unlock" the account. but give me more info and I will be able to help you more.
can you make a video on how to set user policy's from what appears on the desktop and or my computer, how to restrict control panel functions, and how to even restrict start menu items etc, just the basics. thanks and you have some really good videos
That will be coming in a future video. at the moment I'm not at home so I haven't been able to do any more videos for the last few days but I will definetly do some more tomorrow but if not then saturday evening.
This is awesome! Thanks for doing this. Can you show me how to create a user with access to change the computer name, but no other administrative privileges?
I just wish i didn't have to use AD.Have had enough of studying it at tech =|

do users automatically get access to the database once create or is that given to them when you did all that in the profiles tab?
johnnyramma 4 months ago
@johnnyramma After you create them they can login to a PC immediately. The other stuff is to make the profile Roaming.

You should mention how to add users to an OU, rather than directly in there. That way you can assign the OU group policies.

@TheToby505 If you are not sure then you probably don't need a server. They are very complicated at times and require a lot of work to get working.
