straight up just dont drive on ice, if your gonna drive on ice or snow your asking for it man and if you do think about driving abit slower instead of sticking to the speed limit loool its only when its snowing or there ice people want to stick to the speed limit idiots lol
This happens a fair amount over here in the UK, too. People seem to think speed is the answer on snowy/icey roads. Yet people still fail to learn the laws of physics.
people just need to learn to slow the hell down when the roads are icy and stuff like this will never ever ever happen and if you are unsure about driving than call a cab
What is the legal lowest tire depth in america in winter? here in sweden the lowest depth in winter is 3 mm lower then that and the stopping distance gets longer and more uncontrollible. And winter tires are essentional on any cars.
rally driver from Norway suggests put in neutral NO BRAKES even though it feels wrong, This gives you a little control of steering at the LOWER speeds on ice.
Reminds me of Texas drivers when it snows. Im from Michigan and now live in TX but when it snows here im more afraid of the drives not the ice or snow
Well, that's what you get for not having proper tires for the weather and for using way too much speed. These videos make one wonder why on earth do people have to try to drive on snow even though they don't have the proper equipment or the skills. :D
If you live in MN like myself you would learn how to drive in crappy conditions like that. If your not used to them or uncomfortable driving in bad conditions the best thing to do is not drive in them .duh.
@Gordonalways1 no but here in sweden we use studded tyers and friction tyers it really work. It's not common sence to use studded tiers in the winter in sweden it's the law.
sorry for beeing rude i didn't mean to offend you americans.
@kyleelliott90 yeah i know i've bought 4 studded tiers to my chevy okay it's a caprice but it still cost me a fortune to buy them. If i could lower the price on tiers you can bet you're boots on i would have done that every winter.
Theres NO law in Sweden saying we have to use studded tires during winter, as long as the tires are marked M+S (Mud+Snow) they are allowed during winter.
Sorry for being rude, but it's stupid to write something without knowing facts...
@becky334 It just depends on which part of the US you're talking about. I live in Oregon and since it hardly ever snows, if it does it catches the residents off guard and they think they either have to drive 10 mph on the freeway or they can still go 55 through the main strip. When I lived in North Dakota people there prepared for winter driving and were usually much better at it.
@becky334 wrong. i can drive on snow and ice just fine cars trucks vans pulling trailers as long as your not a dill weed about it you can do it. please dont steriotype.
@derrektf17 sorry about my last posts it's the same in the new zeeland mountains. I'am not to good driver in the snow ider i don't steriotype at all sorry
@MoMoMEGATRON true i try to use common sence on ice and snow. there's a swedish way of saying about when someone is in the ditch. If you're in the ditch you drove to fast. it makes sence in swedish
Sad part about this video though is that all these vehicles that crashed were 4 wheel drive....lol. However they were all going way to fast, 4wd, awd, doesn't matter ice is ice.
@becky334 yes they were fine I take that same highway all the time. That's 599/285N/84 route going into and out of Santa Fe. But yea, everyone was fine just a few bumps.
I noticed that the Vehicles involved in those Accidents had two Major Problems: (1) Excessive Speed & (2) No Snow Chains! Advice: (1) Slow Down & (2) Buy Snow Chains!!!!
@colliertng in uk its illigal to have snow chains and yo have to inform your insurance if you want to change to know tyrse/bettertyes to suit the weather
@GWR4079. Here in the U.S. there are just some Idiots that don't know how to drive in these type of Conditions! They still think that they can still drive 65 mph in Snowy Conditions! (Shaking My Head!)
@colliertng rofl same here on snowflake and the countrys at a standstill and people like you said drive like its mid summer lol and you wonder why the insurance goes up every year
too many people paying attention to the CNN camera's.........that & the cops are what caused the crashed, people were looking at them and not the road, although I do agree that MOST of these SUV nuts need to take a drivers test before being allowed to drive these trucks.
Do not listen to the people telling you not to put your vehicle in 4wd in snow and ice. 4wd is better than 2wd in any situation with less traction. The problem is this; 2wd and 4wd vehicles have the same brakes. Slowing a 4wd vehicle is no different than a 2wd (unless you are using engine braking). 4wd gives a person a more planted feel and too much confidence, leading them to drive too fast. If you drive in 4wd the same as you drive in 2wd, in the snow and ice, you are safer in 4wd.
@StoneyRice not correct in its entirety. For example, on an icy road, if you drive a FWD, and you start fishtailing in a turn, your just release accelerator and try to maneuver the car (not press brake). on RWD you need to increase accelerator. On 4WD it depends on the situation, so you need t balance out tapping the gas and decelerating. Overall, it makes it tougher on 4WD than 2WD to drive on slippery roads (4WD is better for bad condtions, such as mud, deep snow, etc. NOT slippery roads)
@rawrrrOH First off you have it backwards; Rwd let off, Fwd give a little throttle (Never gun it). Both Awd and 4wd vehicles will act like a Fwd when the tires loose grip, A little throttle should straighten it right out. I have owned all 4 types of vehicles and "practiced" slipping corrections a lot in my 15 years of Idaho driving. Awd and 4wd are the easiest to control while the tires are broken loose on ice. Less traction = put in 4 hi (or 4 auto if equipped) no exceptions. Never use lockers.
@rawrrrOH you are correct i steer and use my hand break to bring the back end around :) with a fwd and awd i would not touch a rwd with a barge pole in weather like this lol
With RWD, if you push the accelerator pedal while in a drift, or fishtailing, it will push you further into it... Its gonna be worse than pressing the brakes. haha. And thats not true. 4WD/AWD is better for getting started, and keeping moving in any conditions. Only your tires & Car setup will change the handling characteristics of the vehicle after you are moving - not really much to do with the drivetrain
I live at the 60th parallel so it's always fun to watch people in the south drive stupid in snow.........ha....ha..ha....haha.......Baaaahaaaaaabaaaaaahaaaa.
@kiknarse Yes people who have 4wd are fucking stupid with it but people like me with 4X4 and an offroad rig know to handle shit like this. Its the n00bs who never use 4wd until is snows who are fucking nub as shit
@MissDumyat Who's worse, the people that set the cameras up to video people having accidents on an icy stretch of road, or the people that sit in front of the tube drooling over footage like this and driving the ratings up? I think it's six of one and a half dozen of the other. Either way, human nature dictates that we want to watch shit like this or it wouldn't be on the TV in the first place. Hell, you came to youetube and watched a video for Christ's sake!
All this happened because some fckn idiot thought he could make the roads safe by taking pictures of anyone driving a few miles to fast and then send them a big fine.. F'ck of with your speed camera in this kind of conditions. No one drives to fast but some will hit the brakes when they see you and then this happens. Retard cop...
@zane1os 4 wheel drive will understeer and slide on ice, where a rwd vehicle will oversteer on ice, just a preference on how you drive, if you can control the rear end with rwd then your better off sice you still have your front wheels to steer with, and all 4 arent spinning causing loss of steering. but regardless if you know how to drive on ice either way your fine
@TheRedbearded1 no the key is just to not hit the brakes but hit the gas because 4wd will guide the front end to a certain extent you just can be fucking retarded while your driving.
@TheRedbearded1 Are you fucking retarded? A 4X4 is not much better on ice than a 2X4, but AWD is the best on ice. If you have ever been to Alaska then you would know 1/5 of the cars their are Subarus. How ever you have to have snow tires are you are fucked no matter what you drive.
@TheRedbearded1 Most people think that's what it's for! They go out in their lovely car and think they can drive as they would on a dry road. The camera an at the start was brilliant - he filmed the sky for us all.
People here in the UK like 4WD vehicles as they "feel" safer and you are quite high up in the driving seat.
I prefer the seating position in a 4WD compared to a car which is low, add low suspension and bucket seats and you have to get in some strange positions to get in and out.
4wd isn't safer idiots. Yeah they climb better, but you dont brake better with 4wd than 2wd. I was just about to say "some" people are bad drivers, but actually its alot of bad drivers out there even here in norway its alot of people that never should have been driving in snow.
@puuuuuuch he was running away , its a shoulder mount camera and as he ran the camera points up in walking or running position the car barely missed hitting him
the problem is people are idiots, and dont slow down, everybody is in such a hurry to get nowhere!!!i know evrybody is an important person, and is busy busy ,gotta rush rush...yeah right, ive got news for you noone is that important to take the chance on killing someone, or even yourself MR or MRS busy....
fuckin retards on ice !! SLOW DOWN MORONS!! If one of you dumb fuckers kill one of my family, then i hunt down & kill ALL of your family !! Women, children, aunts, uncles, even the family dog !! People this stupid should not be allowed to breed .
If you know how to drive right you can stop in icy conditions. No pressing the brakes, you gotta pump them. Always aim the tires in the direction you want to go and with pumping the brakes and driving moderately slow you will be just fine in icy conditions.
people are retarded and think that 4 wheel drive will go anywhere they think there great lol, most are garbage and have no road clearance shit in the snow lmfao try driving 70mph and loosing it funny cause I have and never even put a scratch on my car cause I know how to handle a car big difference between knowing and doing all you bright asses oh and put fucking snow tires ! all season are garbage
And for you people that don't know your cars: 1998 Jeep GRAND Cherokee 5.9, Subaru Forester, Ford RANGER and a Ford ESCAPE, not an Expedition, Goddamn. There is also a GMC Sierra.
@michluce It's a joke buddy. And also, what's to say most of these drivers are from the 90% of New Mexico that doesn't get snow? They'd still be very unfamiliar with driving in it.
@tobbzor I dont know if you can have them but most of the time the snow is taken care of and it would just be a waste. Especially with how heavily driven most roads are
people are so fucking stupid, they dont even give a shit that the road is covered in ice and they drive like its business as usual...i see it every fucking winter, why are people so stupid?
LOL this is why i hate snow. I went to DC for the holidays with my mom and sister we went to see our family and it was about 2 and a half feet deep and there were about 3 people dying every hour from car crashes from the snow, it was crazy though your could see the road, we were running over sidwalks and everything cuz you cant see where anything ends or starts
It's a pity that a car driver in this cold region should be unaware of the simple device which could have prevented troubles on ice. Or I wonder they just enjoy these for a change in their lives.
Damm alot of Noobs with cameras always missing the real footage when it happends putting the camera down looking up at the action. TIP #1 keep your Vid camera on the Subject. TIP # 2 there is no tip #2

Car approaches, about to have an accident. That's when the cameraman decides to film the sky while shaking his camera.

@puuuuuuch he was running away , its a shoulder mount camera and as he ran the camera points up in walking or running position the car barely missed hitting him

If you know how to drive right you can stop in icy conditions. No pressing the brakes, you gotta pump them. Always aim the tires in the direction you want to go and with pumping the brakes and driving moderately slow you will be just fine in icy conditions.

CoyoteStie 1 year ago
Dumb asses driving cars without stability control. 4x4 has nothing to do with it. It's the braking system controlled by a computer and yolk.

4wd retards owners doesnt use wintertires.. just because you can get going doesnt mean its so easy to stop the car.

@michluce It's a joke buddy. And also, what's to say most of these drivers are from the 90% of New Mexico that doesn't get snow? They'd still be very unfamiliar with driving in it.

@Quatermain98526 well, people in the DESERT have no idea what snow is like, if that's what you mean.

@tobbzor I dont know if you can have them but most of the time the snow is taken care of and it would just be a waste. Especially with how heavily driven most roads are

A simple tool can spare winter tires, preventing troubles of the vehicle on ice. Above all it can reduce the cost of gas in winter over 15%.
noskidable 1 year ago
LOL this is why i hate snow. I went to DC for the holidays with my mom and sister we went to see our family and it was about 2 and a half feet deep and there were about 3 people dying every hour from car crashes from the snow, it was crazy though your could see the road, we were running over sidwalks and everything cuz you cant see where anything ends or starts
