To add to that, an outcome of obeying Allah increases your faith and your rememberance of him. If you are not regularly commiting acts of worship then you will succumn to your desires and be forgetful of God All-Mighty. Consequently, turning to God five times a day acts as a buffer.

But as I said, this is a result of the action. The ultimate reason to praying or doing any other religious act is purely based on obeying the One Who created us from nothing.

We pray five times a day simply because God All-Mighty commanded us to. He doesn't need anything from us, rather He wants to separate those who are true in their belief from those who are not, and that is by action.

If someone said they loved you but you saw no action that proved it, would you believe them? Of course not. Similarly, just saying you believe is not a display of faith. Its just an easy way out.

We need to prove ourselves to Him in order to be worthy of His reward.

Another point to be made is if you feel strongly about anything in life it is human nature to act in a manner to defend yourself and your beliefs. Im sure there are things in life you feel strongly about and would not want anyone to say harsh word about. But if you look to the beauty of islam it actually advises you on how to control these negative feelings and discourages to project ill feelings towards anyone be it muslim or non-muslim.

the word "worship" is vague at best. but, it's morphology is perhaps telling: worth + ship, i.e. to acknowledge worth. does God (or a god) say that he WANTS to be worshiped? If he wants, then he lacks, and that fails a theological proof. Thus we can't very well assume that just because he commands us to, that it is for his benefit.

1) God wants everyone to pray to him/worship him, a)because he is the Creater, and is it not on our duty to give thanks to something that created Us? If someone were to give you one billion dollars, would you not constantly thank him? Also, Muslims believe that this Life is a test, and one of the "questions" is remembering God (thus praising Him). So prayer (namaz or salat) is the five time prayer every muslim must perform.
