Tom - I just want to build a simple version of the slider dolly - that just moves slowly without stopping. What type of motor and battery would I need?
I just realized why the dolly has to be motorized and computer controlled - else the dolly would be moving during an exposure. I once imagined building a self moving dolly simply using the pull of a weight.
Actually, I was thinking the opposite. I'd rather HAVE the dolly moving during exposure to give it the natural motion blur of non-timelapsed filmmaking. Obviously, it depends on exposure length, movement speed during exposure, and how much the actual perspective changes between frames.
In this case, it seems that the frames are barely an inch apart, slow enough that motion blur is irrelevant.
where to buy such a dolly?

Damn it would suck mightily if a strong gust of wind knocked it over or a mountain lion ran off with the camera.

Soo cool. Can't wait to see the film!
I got nervous watching the video camera get so close to the rig.

Your work is amazing. I'm curious, what kind of exposure do you take and what frequency ? Do you use a ND filter ?
