I agree with what McCaffery did. Coaching is tough - I don't think anybody would disagree with me. But to coach college basketball - is suicidal. You're dealing with "athletes" (18 - 22 years old) who have babied backgrounds and they have the unfortunate experience of the AAU system, or NIKE Camps, etc. Skills (passing, etc) are becoming a thing of the past. And to top it off they are having their college "education" paid for! It's sad they have to be yelled at. I wouldn't baby them!

Wow i never knew Fran had this in him.... He recruited my brother to Lehigh U. back in the late 1980's and he always seemed like the calm nerdy type but could coach his ass off, kinda like Coach K.

I guess coaching at Iowa U. would make any coach flip out. Thats a tough place to recruit kids to and they have fallen too far behind the competition in the big ten .

First of all that technical should not have been called (but im glad it did), Fran was just pointing out that his player was being held. Second, I love the passion from a man who wants to WIN and have a WINNING team. Third, for all the Hawkeye haters- Iowa will win an NCAA Championship game or be apart of the Final Four or Sweet 16 in the next 4-5 years. This is a rebuilding program that was lacking passion and the will to win and I think now they get the message. GO HAWKS!!

what appears to be a basketball game is actually a fine example of why American 'sports' are nothing but ego and greed driven businesses with children that never grew up running the show: what kind of example of sportsmanship and college spirit is displayed here? the coach should get some anger management and be taught to realize that it is a game, for children, being ruined by 'adult children' (usually alcoholic) who just do not know how to lose gracefully - that requires maturity and a brain.

This isn't the first time he's done this though.  I wish I had video of it, but the Iowa/UNI game earlier this year he picked up 2 T's in a couple minutes and had to be escorted off the court. Look at his players faces, they aren't responding to him acting like that. They are ignoring/disgusted by it from the looks of it. He has a Bob Knight attitude with the coaching and people skills of a freaking 2nd grader.

@uniftw10 Some coaches know how there players respond, you know? With my basketball team, my team would respond when the coach acted this way. Any other way, it would go in one ear and out the other. It's nothing against his character. Sometimes you team doesn't hear you unless, you approach them in the "in your face" kind of way. But in this case, with this team, It's still going in one in and out the other, and to me these players appear to be un-coachable.

He was thrown out of a game earlier this year and had to be escorted off the court by police and Iowa fans loved it.....The fact his players are completely stone faced while he is going off right in their face leads me to believe he has lost the locker room.

We love his fire, he expects the best out of every player and their best effort just like every other coach, and when they give the effort they gave last night; then he gets on them.
