but where paul krugman is wrong, is we had stagflation and high unemployment, from FDR to reagan. So the deregulation was necessary to lower inflation and to boost the gdp. But u cannot say that deregulation caused this financial crisis. Since all so called evidence paul krugman is pointing out, is pointing to what austrian school of economics have been saying all along and that is large government and free credit wil give u short term benefits but in the long term will prove to be disastrous.

The fact that giant corporations and the banking system itself still fight real reform in consumer protection after such a global disaster (aided by the banks themselves) goes to show the US is not the land of free people but rather an out of control free market.
