  • I never tire of this music

  • Love the Guitar Intro. Hope that is never changed. Oh Bring my baby back to me!!!!

  • Even though it's not the original, you gotta give the guitarist and the sax player credit for really getting those solos down?

  • I care more about the "original" members singing "their" song than I do about the original recording. It's not the recording that was released but , that's Krips Johnson on lead. I can't vouch for the rest of the group.

  • Since i have this 45 record i know this is not the original song they played on the radio. Why don't you just post the original song?

  • Thumbs up if Stand By Me brought you here! <3

  • GREAT, GREAT music from Pittsburgh. Feel-good music. Tks for posting. CFN

  • This doesn't feel like the original but it is still good....going back to vinyl

  • Not the original on Colpix? Got my copy on "Old Gold", UK. GREAT, GREAT,GREAT American music!!!! What an era we lived in and thru! Fantastic.. . ."feel-good-music!" . Thank you for uploading!

  • This is NOT the original. It's close....it's a re-recording. I have the original at home stored away.

  • I think they made this right after "come go with me". That one is great and this is even better.

  • Why is my post not going thru ???? This is not the original this a poor re-record .

  • Is this a demo or a Re-record ?

  • I was 11 when this song first came 65 now . i remember it very well. along with many other songs from back then

  • what are you people talking about!! this is the exact same dudes that sing "the original" if u wanna call it that. just shut up and listen

  • who cares if it was the original or not, if you enjoy this version of it don't question it! ENJOY EVERYBODY !

  • May have been pointed out elsewhere in the thread BUT, this is NOT thee original! (Sorry)

  • I listen to this song everyday on the way to school, gets me in a good mood ;)

  • AAAHHHHHH THE GARAGE MUSIC GROUPS~! WILL LAST FOREVER~!

  • It's fantastic ! Great doo wop !

  • STAND BY ME JUNKYARD SCENE ! <3

  • They don't make them like this anymore. Great tune.

  • I'll post hhe original I have it!

  • This isn't a bad verson, but, it's not the original. Crip Johnson was the original

lead singer in the group and did a much better job.

  • im a teenager and i love this music it makes me sad that people dont sing anymore. nowadays its rapping or auto tuned crap. very rarely do u see someone ith talent. i love my generation but our "music" is terrible, along with our cars

  • Where has all the good music gone???? I think we should take all the young people and put them in a room and play this type of music over and over and maybe they will get an idea of what good music should sound like. red62es335, you hit the nail on the head.

  • I don't mind re-recordings - provided that they are faithful to the original - and this one certainly does the trick

  • This version is as good as any and the sax wails. For kids to sing like this today they'd need 20 years of solfege and Music Ed.

  • This jam really gets me going in the morning!

  • Nice, outstanding lead guitar and sax up front.

  • Very nice.

  • Great song!!!!!!! They don't make them like this anymore!!!!!!

  • If I only had a dollar for every time i danced to that song

  • I`snt it wonderful! Just one click on the mouse and i`m back 50 years, and enjoey my

favorites!!!! For me youtube are number one!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mannen48 I'm with you, partner! How does that happen anyway? Right now I'm in the 7th grade, almost a teenager, and don't have one clue about girls yet!

  • I'm so confused--the Del Vikings and the Dell Vikings. One has a hyphen and the other doesn't. I'm so confused.

  • i love the beat

  • This version is wonderful!!!

  • Does not claim to be the original recording.! But a nearly perfect rendition, so many years later. Original members leave us, the fact that sons of the originals sing in this tune---and do such a GREAT job---well, salute from this fan of the originals.

  • great tune bro

  • great compression on the chimming guitar makes this so outstanding.

  • It's not the original song. The original is here: watch?v=oDrjIW91Qh0

  • @edvardj Just to clear things up, I am aware that this is not the original. I was not able to get a hold of an original recording. This is the version I own. Thank you for listening anyways!

  • @ElectrionicWhiz

you couldnt find an original? any fleas usually has at least one original 45 and 45s are the real originals not all this electronic crap

  • @ElectrionicWhiz Anyway I really think that it´s simply awesome. I don´t care if it was the original one.

    it sounds great my friend.

    regards from Spain.

  • @Guilleramos I agree with you In fact, its not the original as played on the radio when it was a hit, but unlike a lot of alternative versions of hit songs, this is great. At the beginning it sounds just like the original, then the discrepancies occur, but they are good ones. Crazy, man. You're okay, Guilleramos.

  • Ain't the original.Great interpretation all the same!

  • Great fidelity on this, following the original posting which had the video-and not so great fidelity. The lead on this (son of the original, I believe son of Krips Johnson-could be wrong) has such a sweet voice. Handsome dude too:)

    Lucca

  • Soundss like Norman Wright's son singing lead studio version of their road group...

  • Not the original!!! Dislike

  • WOW I didn't realize that I could find all these Oldies on You Tube its GREAT!!!! I LOVE IT

  • @catsober

Posting oldies was the best thing that ever happened to

youtube. I hope you know that you can download these

videos and even convert the sound to mp3..

  • This is the original version: watch?v=oDrjIW91Qh0

  • 53 years ago and still sounds great!

  • The best of the best

  • This sounds similar to their concert version. When they were much older

  • Nice version but not the original. I could tell as soon as I heard the sax intro. It sounded more like sweep from sooty and sweep.

  • I like this updated version but I prefer the original a lot better

  • This was from the year 1957. I bought my first new car which was a 4-door Bel-Air hardtop chevy. This was all so the year the great "KELSO" was born.

  • This is 1957 ???? A white Guy in a Black group I thought Johnny Maestro Crests was the first a bit later !!! It still makes no difference if the group has the sound !!!!

  • This is a good version, but NOT the original! I know, cus I got it!

  • I think this has been "juiced" up somewhat but the song whenever sung is an all time "classic". I love every decibel - turn it up and let it ring out!!!!!!!

  • The lead on this editon of the song does a great job. What a voice. We can't have all the originals, but the lead here is terrific.

  • This is not the original.

  • to robshannon & sandmarine14: This is the original version; spelled Del Vikings-favorite from my teens.

  • Where is Cripps Johnson?

  • @Howieshet -The lead on this, who has one sweet voice is Kripps Johnson's some. Guy to his left is the son of another original member, who has died.

  • It sure don't sound like it did in 1957, I was 18 then 71 now, my hearing is not all that good but when I crank up the vol. It just don't soud like the old 'Del-Vikings'.

I use to cruise the SF Valley and listin to DJs Art Laboe and Hunter Hancock who played all the neat songs then.

Cheers to all the old guys and gals from that era.

  • @nomorepigshere

Your hearing is okay. It sounds different because this is a

different version. Search youtube for the original.

  • I don't think it's the original. Is it at higher speed than original? Sounds pretty bad here. Great song, I love the Del Vikings.

  • When was this one done? It doesn't sound like the original to me.

  • @robshannon I believe it was in 1957-At least that's what the recording information said.

  • @ElectrionicWhiz I'm not sure but I don't think it's the original recording.

  • @ElectrionicWhiz you got duped

  • @ElectrionicWhiz the original whispering bells was made in 1957 on feebee label214 B side

don't be a fool.......del vikings re record it on dot label 15592 of the same year 1957

I have doo wop the forgotten third of rock an roll book krause publictions if it can help

  • @ElectrionicWhiz the original whispering bells was made in 1957 on feebee label214 B side

don't be a fool.......del vikings re record it on dot label 15592 of the same year 1957

my copy is on dot label along with come go with me also on dot label

  • @ElectrionicWhiz it was in 1957 but just is not the original

  • @robshannon You are correct..I was there and this lead is not the original..But it sounds good..Thanks for the upload..

  • @robshannon

True, it sounds enhanced in some way, but I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's just been "digitized!" And hopefully we all have better equipment now, although I still like the old stuff, and still have a working turntable.

  • @robshannon The Del Vikings did it originally, but I think this is a later, non-studio version by them.

    Great song none-the-less!!

    =D

  • @robshannon I agree. We have this song on our juke box and it isn't this version.

  • @robshannon The original is at

This is NOT the original! It's here, but YouTube won't let me send you the URL.

How do I know? She was my first love and she broke my heart. You don't forget that!

  • Another great classic I will air this summer or sooner on our radio show.

  • greatest masterpiece.

  • Greatest Song Ever

  • is this doo wop?

  • back then it was different...with black and white.

it was a few years later that we were told to hate each other.

  • This was a great group. The first inter-racial group. The sax solo is clean.

  • hey send me back to the 1950s

  • Great, It's nice to see a white guy singing with the brothers all the way back in those days. I never knew. I did know the group though. Rock and Roll brought a lot of us together, Thank God.

  • @eugenesedita his name was Dave Learchy !!!

    Erik Von

  • @eugenesedita

    True dat!

  • @eugenesedita

    Word up!

  • Brilliant music !!!

  • betty i remeber you

  • I am only 34 but my kids and i love this music, especially when we go cruising in our 64 falcon hardtop

  • @cranemanj75

lol, same basically here. i'm 36. i have 2 teens and 2 preteens, and we rock out to doo wop and oldies every weekend while we clean the house!

Glad to see we Gen Xers are passing this unto our kids! This was the BEST music!

  • This is classic American music - I never get tired of listening to this!

  • In 2010 this works. Greatness isn't relegate to any era. This is a timeless, great song.

  • @dhfranck Right on!That's why we still have Mozart and Beethoven etc..Good music's good music period.

  • "you can say that again...man, im trying to look for a 50-60s radio station...but there isnt any....sucks"

If you are interested in online radio

    try Live365 for oldies stations.

  • try the professor rocks on live 365.

  • We not only had great songs but also great cars back then. My first new car was a 57 bel air hardtop chevy. What a neat looking car!

  • Yep, just a great time to grow up. My first car was a '53 Ford Victoria, 2 dr hardtop, the anniversary year for Ford......and..........great music to go with it.

  • Also had a '53 Victoria as a first car. Remember the words 'Golden Jubilee' inscribed on the horn ring?

  • Great copy!! What TT and Cartridge did you use?

  • I want to thank all the contributors to you tube for keeping all the great old music alive. There isn't much worth listening to nowadays

  • you can say that again...man, im trying to look for a 50-60s radio station...but there isnt any....sucks

  • I could not agree anymore with you! Keeping all the oldies alive! They are some good artists, but nothing like back then.

  • Yeah this is how music is supposed to be at least for the 50's, It was one of my favorites back then, but I for one am glad we've moved on to bigger and better everything including music

  • To imbissfrank, bigger maybe, but not better.

  • this is how music is supposed to be :)

  • Buddy Holly had wonderful music as well

it's so sad that he died before his time....

  • Great group, great song.

  • Kevin hit's it. This, and a few others ('P.S. I Love Your",are at the beginning.

  • Whenever I hear this song, I think about that time back in the summer of 1959, when Chris, Vern and Teddy and I went looking for that dead body in the woods. I'll always remember that time. (Oh, wait, that wasn't me. That was that stupid movie.)

  • For me, this song really embodies the 1950's, especially the first minute or so.

  • you just got to love tihis stuff ,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • All time great 50's dowop.

    The Dell Vikings. So fine!

  • Oh man I love this song! What beautiful vocals. I love the words, the soft sounds.....i have listened to this over and over. wish i could put it on repeat!!

  • Download the song and repeat it as often as you want. If you need help,

    let me know.

  • Great song and beautiful version. i am up past midnight trying to find all my favorite tunes on youtube.

  • Great song, and likeable version. I wonder where you got this. Mick Jagger stated in interview that this is his favorite rocknroll song.

  • In the summer of '57 I was 8 and all we did was study, listen to music and play baseball, football and basketball. This song will always remind me of Breezy Point Beach in Annapolis, MD where it was played incessantly on the jutebox. It was the B side of Come go with me but it is far better.

  • A Pittsburgh group, actually.

  • is it my imigination sometimes i see a mix group whites and blacks otner times they seem all black? just curious.

  • There were two groups: Del Vikings

and the Dell - Vikings. The Del vikings

formed first, and was a mixed group.

These guys were in the Air Force, and

when two members were sent overseas,

they returned and formed the second

    group (Dell Vikings), all black.

  • other way around name wise

  • I was a child in the "50s,but songs like this got me hooked on rock and roll.I may be old now,but hearing this makes me feel young.

  • thanks

    duccio colaiori 62 old

  • coooool,,,,,,,,

  • It's pretty, but his is not the original hit version unfortunately....

  • I don't know many people my age (69) who don't prefer 50s R&R over what's been written in the years since.

  • Why is the picture of The Crests included at 1:46? Were the two groups ever connected? Thanks!

  • I will work on removing that soon. Thank you.

  • Oh, that's ok, I thought they might have been somehow related. Thank you also.

  • @jazz0685 actually there is a reason. The Del vikings Did have a number of legal problems regarding their Group Name rights and Song rights. this led to a Number of Del vikings groups being formed. even one by a former Original Member who later formed the verasatilles

  • We burned out the Juke Box at Bob's-Van Nuys, CA

when this came out in '57 - (Yeah, I'm OLD)

  • We are going to carry on the torch. You are not old. just a child of a great musical time. I am jealous..

  • Whispering Bells, Church Bells May Ring and The Three Bells --- all great songs.

  • Loved this song in Stand By Me! By the way the pic from 1:45 to 1:50 is not a pic of the Del Vikings but a pic of Johnny Maestro and the Crests

  • I drive my 57 chevy truck and listen to these guys. It is a great time and it takes me back to when I was a boy. Thanks guys for a great song. Blessings

  • yeah I prefer the other version, but this one is awesome too

  • It's good but I doubt they are the Real Del Vikings, maybe they made two different recordings, they changed members a few times.

  • This is what I call music.

  • how do you spell there name, cuz i saw some were like del and others spelt with two lls?dell or del?

  • I spell it Del which I belive is right but other people spell it different ways.

  • I love this thank you so much for uploading it ,

  • did they break up or something?

  • I'd like to know where this version of the song came from. This is not the original version. It's surely the Del-Vikings, but it's different in many places.

  • This has to be the original!!!

  • You are correct!!!

  • I agree. This might be taken from the Del-Vikings on tour, but it's definetly not the original version I have the original 45.

  • Great music, shame on today's hit's.

    These oldies are diamonds.

  • @sega62s your absolutely right!

  • Classic of its own

  • My all-time favorite Doo-Wop song! Great harmonies -- it's a shame you don't hear it on Oldies Stations often. A very underrated song. Many thanks for posting this one, EW.

  • awesome song! thank you so much for putting it on! i listened to it in stand by me and loved it :)

  • Thank you for providing this music!!!!!!!!!

  • I honestly can't even understand how anyone couldn't just love this stuff like I do, but then again that's just me and I'm 59 years old, but I still LOVE, this song, and thier great harmony, and I "dug" it since it first came out. Marc Trainor.

  • i first heard this song watching the film stand by me,loved it ever since!!

  • One of the greatest doo wop songs of all time!!! Marc Trainor.

  • Thank you.

  • I remember this song! My grandfather introduced me into this kind when I was a kid. This was one of my absolute favorites. These guys were really great! I wish that there was a radio station that played this kind of music, but unfortunately there isn't anymore. But this song was great to listen to!

  • actually, there are a lot of oldies sttons that play this kind of music. maybe it mkes adifference what part of the country you live in. i'm in so. florida

  • great,thanx
