no, with the 3G your required to have the unlimited data plan, so it doesn't coast you money instead of wifi (other than the amount you usually pay on your bill each month)

yeah. Data plan covers all the apps using the 3G internet, and it covers everything besides cost for apps/music, calling, and messaging.

If you have a wireless router, you can enter the codes etc to connect to wifi. But I believe there's nothing too hard to do for the 3G network.

Just learned that the distortion raging through my home stereo speakers and wireless phone is a result of the ATT E network streaming through my iPhone. There are recording studios in LA that do not allow iPhones in the door because of this interference, yet I read about this terrible problem no where. Even 3G owners risk this interference when not in range of the faster network.

No no, you're misunderstanding the problem. The problem is not the iPhone, its AT&T's GSM (aka GPRS) network. The data travels on a particular frequency band. When traveling near poorly insulated wiring, the GSM frequency gets through to the wire, travels to the speaker and the magnet then does it job at moving the speaker. Thus, weird feedback through your speakers. Now while its happening with your iPhone, it happens with all AT&T phones. The real problem is your poorly insulated speaker wire

Two things about the 3G; No Recording Video (from Apple, it's possible with Apps but so-so right now), High-Cost cell plan. But I really like mine, in hurry to have a good app. for recording vid.
