So i just bought a 1980 rts with 756 miles on it. for 500 bucks. GOD I LOVE EBAY. so it was disassembled a bit when i bought her. my rear remote start system has been on hooked. i think i got it back together for the most part. Is there any way you could send me photos of your rear remote start system so i can get a idea of what shes missing.
I last seen this bus 3 years ago on the streets but it wasn't in service it must have been heading back to its garage. I rode in one of these buses as a kid along with the Volvo B-10M Articulated the survior of the fleet is currently at Midvale do you have a video of this bus I speak of or no?
SEPTA GMC RTS is still a museum bus, the bus got scrapped was the Volvo Artic NOT GMC RTS, I thought they both got scrapped, but after seeing pictures and videos of this year's SEPTA rodeo GMC RTS is still there. To make up the lost of Volvo artic that got scrapped, they put DE41LF or Neoplan artic on the rodeo.
Most of SEPTA's RTS buses originally had 6V-71's in them but after their mid-life overhaul they were repowered with 6V-92's. The 20 that were assigned to the Red Arrow side had 6V-92's in them from the beginning. The 92's gave them A LOT more pep.
either a mechanic truck or one of them big electric air compressors used at a auto mechanic shop. If the bus is inside the bus maintance facility, then the air from the shop's compressor is used.
Also, if another bus is around that has an air start system, you can use that bus to pump up enough air in the unstarted bus's system to get it running.
What's more powerful: an electric impact wrench or an air impact wrench? Same story with air starters. Air is far more powerful. Air starters are also lighter weight and safer around flamable substances due to no sparks. This is why they are used in boats quite a bit.
No what I meant was you can get a special hose that hooks up to the tyre valves to the air starter or air tank (depends on the set up). I've seen it done on a mates old mack truck that had an air starter system. Its an alternative to an air compressor or an aux air tank.
Sorry!!! Just found another listing on the Ohio Museum of Transportation website. Model T7W-603 - 35' long, 96" wide, fleet #'s 4458-4470. Originally built with a 6V71.
I posted this question before but it doesn't seem to be there. Does this bus have a re-assigned fleet number for show purposes??? The Ohio Museum of Transportation website's production list shows different fleet #'s.
sweet, looks like it's brand new

@s88thebus2 Even if there was a parts problem, it was a historic bus. They still could of kept it. Had parts specially made for it.

The GM RTS-01 was built from 1977 to 1978.
The RTS-03 was built from 1979 to 1980, which the one in the video was built.

What happens if you have an air start engine, and there is not enough air in the system to start it? How is it then started?
vettedude277 4 years ago
Just a guess, but they would hook shop air to it, or an air compressor of some sort???
TBird100636 4 years ago
They would get the air from the tyres.
dan2010 4 years ago
No, compressor or some other air resevoir tank. The tires aren't connected to the air system. Not possible.

Nope! Backup Light.
BassmanII 4 years ago
Above the licence plate is a retrofitted center stoplamp, below the plate is the back-up light, which was moved to the tailights on 04 Series RTS's.

What's That Center Light on the Back?

I've always thought those old slantback RTSs were the wierdest lookin things... But God do I love it! Nice video!
