  • Great pick! Love the 800XL that I got from you :)

    Btw, How have you been?

  • @thomas3120 Doing well, but absolutely SWAMPED with work (50 hours/week) and also writing a book, so weekends are full, as well. Hoping to launch a new channel in 2012, though, and get back to videos. I miss 'em!!! I hope you're well!

  • I used to do a bit of repair and modification to the 8 bit Ataris. Still own a few 400, 800s XLs and XEs. Most still work though most not on the original power supply bricks

  • I would do the same, but for the Commodore 64. I grew up with one :)

  • WoW i had a 65 xe!! no-one i speak to ever knows what i'm talking about!!

  • I was hooked on the Atari 8-bit when I first saw Star Raiders. I was doing my military service at the time. I bought an 800 soon after that. I later upgraded to a 130XE, which I still have together with a Happy modified 1050 disc drive. Haven't hooked it up for about 12 years though. Hope it runs still.

  • I love Atari Basic and for home computers I have my 800XL. Lucked out and got a dot matrix printer with it in perfect shape. Atari rocks!

  • @nathanallan1 I still think Atari BASIC is the most friendly BASIC ever. Mainly because the editor checked each line as you entered it, so you wouldn't keep duplicating syntax errors when writing a program. And lots of tricks! You could even make it stop, read the screen and restart, self modifying it's program! Fuzzy logic fun!

  • @HillOrStream I have a friend of mine that has a 600XL, his kid loves messing with pc hardware, I'd like to see how he does with software, and can't think of a better chance than with the 600XL. The kid's super smart!

  • Wow! Your Atari computers are in really nice condition! I cannot believe that people are still producing software for these machines! It would be interesting to see some of them run!

  • I'm kind of a stickler in regards to machines I own. I actually have acquired some computers over the years that I then sold/passed on because they were in rough shape. I just like having them in "like-new" (or "new") condition so that I can really get that nostalgic sensation again.

  • This may be my last comment until tomorrow! Time to hit the sack! But I do have one last question to ask: Exactly how many computers do you own at the moment and do you use them or keep them in their respective boxes for posterity?

  • I have a 1200XL, 2 800XLs, a 65XE and a 130XE. I also own a TI-99/4A, Timex Sinclair 1000, Sinclair 1500 and CoCo 2.

  • Oh, and no, I don't have ANY boxes. While I can't have all the machines up and running at the same time, I do play with different ones and I proudly display the others. I'll have to make a little collection video soon.

  • @Ogma01 Please do other videos! I grew up with an Atari 800XL and love vintage computing!

  • I myself have a 130xe, wich looks exactly the same that your 65xe looks like. Sure is an awesome system. What are your favourite games on the atar 8-bit comps?

  • Oh, well, I would definitely include 'Jumpman', 'Miner 2049er', 'Mr. Robot & His Robot Factory' (much maligned, but as a kid, my best friend and I spent HOURS making boards for each other), 'Star Raiders' (of course!), 'Shamus', 'Montezuma's Revenge'... Hmmm... I liked (and LIKE) a LOT of 'em! Can you tell???

  • Damn. I dont own any of those. I just wanted to know if I own any gems... :P

  • By the way, how does the 65XE match up with the 800?

  • Overall, I think the style of the XL line is more in line with my tastes. I think the XE looks pretty slick and it made sense to craft them to look more like the STs/TTs at the time, but I've never been a huge fan of the XE keyboards as I find them to be a bit on the spongy side.

The XLs just feel a lot more SOLID to me.

BUT, out of all my machines (and I have a couple other Atari 8-Bits), the XE has the brightest, cleanest graphic output.

  • Cool. I been pretty unlucky with some choices so far, I got an 800XE but after a bit it glitches graphics. I also have a 520 and 1040ST (I think I am not well versed on the Atari line I'd have to dig them out) But if I remember one that I can display on my TV also is glitchy and the other, well I don't know because it can only use a monitor and I don't have one. Sigh, I want to "Get into" the Atari stuff at some point. I better stick to complete setups..WHERE do you suggest a good easy start?

  • PLEASE RE-submit this I accidentally removed it bud, I feel so bad because this is one of my favorite responses! Sorry for the screw up man!

  • Well, for some reason, it isn't letting me submit this again since you deleted it and I think, from YouTube's perspective, it has been flagged as something you don't want. Oh, well, it was fun while it lasted.

If I get a chance, I'll look into resubmitting with an alt name or something.

  • Damn, sorry to hear that. If that is the case Youtube really needs to do something, I mean when I look at my list of responses a REMOVE button is directly below each one, I meant to click the video to watch it again but slipped and clicked remove. Poof it was gone, IT WOULD BE BETTER if some type of confirmation came up to confirm I wanted to delete it, I mean it does that when you BLOCK a user! Again, very sorry I did not want to remove one of my favourite responses!

  • I will add a link in my description, a annotation in the video so hopefully you get some play back from this. And as my last idea I will give you a special mention soon to and please don't ever be afraid to submit a video response to me in future this will never happen again!

  • OK I made a special note for you at the very beginning of the video description as well as added a annotation I think you will be pleased with please check it out it starts at the 40 sec mark in my video...............

  • Awesome response, thanks for all the mention as well! I myself grew up on the Commodore side of the tracks and certainly no regret. I truly believe a lot of the love comes from what we grew up with, played on, learned on and experienced! A great choice and awesome video response I appreciate THANKS!
