love your horse!! i have 2 saddlebreds with. I did saddle seat with them for a long time, and then i decided it may not be the best for them, so i started working with them in dressage. we have been doing it for a year and we r still not perfect, but i have a blast with them. soon were trying western! keep up the good work. saddlebreds are the best!!!
You may try breeches and a helmet...lol. And have a wider jump (fence post with buckets on either side) and get in 2 point over jumps. And have a slower more even pace. It just takes time and practice; you'll get it! :)
Seeing this horse really encourages me! I have Saddlebred mare, rescue, that I'm working with. I love her to death, and I know she's going to do really well some day. Ranger and you look like a great pair!!!
I'm so glad to see that there are other people out there so interested in the American Saddlebred as a jumper :] It's not very popular but I think they make wonderful hunters and jumpers. They are most definitely my favorite breed. I just love their whole anatomy and temperaments. Never a dull moment with a Saddlebred. and I am glad to hear you have come such a long way with your guy, going to have to look at other vidoes.
Saddlebreds r great jumpers! Don't let anyone tell you they can't do something because they r a Saddlebred. They can do anything. They are eventers, dressage horses, endurance horses, they can do Saddleseat, combined driving, fine harness, hunters, they barrel race, work cows, trail ride...show me any other breed that can compete in all those disciplines. People just don't know anything about them except what they see in the Saddleseat world which gets all the attention. That's versatility!
Awesome! Thats certainly way better than my saddlebred jumping! he canters so slow western but when we gets to jump he wants to like run away haha. great to see saddlebreds doing all sorts of things!
Definitely agreed. I always talk to people about that. I have a saddlebred that I show saddleseat [mainly], but he also does huntseat, some western, driving, and is learning lower-level jumping and sidesaddle. People that say saddlebreds can't do anything are crazy.
this video was taken last summer he has gotten a lot better sense then... i retrained him from saddleseat to hunter it took about a year or two. that was the begining of our training. now we have jumps and standards hahah, he jumps 2'9 now he wins all the jumping classes at our local shows now.
I was intrigued by this video because my first dressage/hunter hore was an amazing saddlebred!
Seeing how you were open to advice..I figured I would share the same advice i was once given.i would practice on being a lillte less forward before the jump..ths will make ranger a little heavy on the front end..and may take awa a little of the natural ability to jmp we know he has!
both talented - adorable video. find a trainer that is not prejudiced on breeds that is experienced teaching jumping and hopefully a little dressage and you'll go far.
Thanks, yeah when i first bought ranger everyone told me it was a mistake b/c he is a saddlebred and they told us we wouldn't ever make it but we proved em all wrong i wish you the best of luck!!!
He's so cute! lol Ranger overjumped it the first time :) You look good on him, too :) but how do you not get saddle rubs while riding in shorts?! i have a small scar from doing that :/

I love this horse! I always hated the high stepping gate most saddlebreds are trained in! This gate looks so calm and natural. good job!

I ride in saddleseat (where they pick up the feet high). It comes natural to thoes horses.

does the canter in saddleseat feel a bit jerky?
Tianathewolf 1 year ago
No, not really. It kinda depends on the horse., my horse Eddie (rest In Peace), was very smooth

This looks like a nice horse! My good friend started jumping her saddlebred mare over a year ago. They really DO NOT get enough credit!
I would say it would help straighten him out to the jump to hold your outside rein straight back- It will keep him in a straight line to the jump !
Looks very nice, but I do recomend wearing a helmet.... from personal experience!
Good job girl :)

Good for you! I love saddlebreds, they don't get enough credit outside the saddleseat world.
I have a Georgian Grande (half saddlebred) who can do anything.
