  • The Jean Sten book is the definitive Edie biography, except when it comes to photos.

  • Jean Stein's book is the definite Edie biography. That's the one. This book, on the other hand, adds nothing except for a few nice photos. I'd say it's very lightweight and exploitative book about a girl who was exploited by everybody all her life.

  • @MowgliX The Stein book is quotes from people she interviewed. Dalton actually wrote about her. I think people should read both books.

  • oh god i have to buy this book or movie because i are super fan of edie sedwick

  • oh god i have to buy this book or movie because i are super fan of edie sedwickk

  • I think Edie became famous for just being herself as the video said.

That's wonderful, and totally describes her as a special person.

  • great but it makes NO sense to call her the origial It girl,

    that was Clara Bow

  • Hah - I was just going to write that after finally seeing it too much not to say something. Thanks for beating me to the punch. Who could have called her that back in the 60's when people still knew who the "it " girl was. Makes me distrust the film. Woth seeing? Read the story in another book like 30 years ago and wonder if this is worth it.

  • Maybe they meant it in the context that people use it today? "It" girls today are not primarily famous for their films as Clara Bow was, it's mainly a personality status.

  • @janipink true but i guess she was the original modern incarnation of the it girl

  • @janipink That's right, and the second one after Clara Bow was Louise (Lulu) Brooks.

  • @janipink That's absolutely correct! But Edie was definitely the it girl of the mid 1960s.

  • It doesn't look important in this ad, but it seems to be a well-documented book about Edie in 1965. Co-author Dalton is an experienced journalist, wrote a book on Warhol at the Factory, and was a Warhol assistant when Warhol and Edie were at the Factory. Gerard, Billy, Ultra, etc. interviewed about Edie. It's careless about some things it takes from the Stein book. Unlike the movie, the book is about Edie as part of the Factory people.

  • Radiant Beauty :)

  • Thanks Gina for this post.

  • she truly is beautiful

  • Edie certainly has a spark, but would have had to have been born about 40 years earlier to have been the original "it girl" - that term has been in use since the '20s.

I'm sure the book is just as crappy and inaccurate as its promotion.

Rent the movie "It" starring Clara Bow if you want to know the real origin of this term.

  • she's very beautifllllllllll

  • exactly, clara bow was the orginal it girl. that sure didn't do edie any favours - it was tacky as hell, and looked wrong somehow.

  • clara bow was the original It girl. get your facts straight.

  • nat said edie didnt work hard for anything and compared her to an insect and stupid at his book panel a few days ago. nice. not to mention the panel walked out on him.

  • He has also called her vacuous, boring, selfish, and a dumb cunt. Obviously he's not hiding the fact he participated in the book only for financial gain.

  • Dalton's writing is not flattering, but he didn't write this. His language is nothing like this. Could this be from Nat Finkelstein? So far as I can tell, Nat F was just the book's photographer.

The book doesn't depict her as the most likable person you'd ever want to know, but it is sympathetic.

It quotes the tombstone of an ancestor:

SHE LONG ENDURED AND WITH PATIENCE SUPPORTED MANY SUFFERINGS

People like Billy Name who said they loved her are quoted.

  • The book is largely quotations from people who knew her personally. If it's not an honest book, there should have been complaints from people saying that they were misquoted.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Ouch! That's pretty bad... he really said that?

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx It was Nat Finkelstein who called Edie a "stupid cunt". Which is a terrible things to say about someone like Edie. But Nat is dead too now.

  • great teaser. Of course it's a commercial venture: they'll make money (exploiting her further) off her image and everyone's desire to star somewhere somehow.

  • im glad they shared her story finally , it was held back sooo loong whose got the fame now !!!!It aint susan superstar anymore its\

Edie and she is here for all to see!!!!!!!!

  • @gina888warhol I don't understand, the movie script is untrue for sure, what is this? and there were books written about Edie by David Weisman (director of Ciao! Manhattan), the book "Edie An American Biography" by Jean Stein, & anything is more truthful than that horrid movie "Factory Girl" which seems to be written by someone who dislikes Edie, & a script that no living person (Dylan, Reed) threatened to sue & called it the worst thing he'd ever read, respectfully, wanted anything to do with!

  • agree!

  • I agree with the first person!!

  • tacky :(
