Great! you know I am 53 years old and never new this nice quick an easy before I was tying to work out in my head 9 is one less than 10 going 8x9 is erm 8x10 = 80 - 8 = 72 yours is a bit quicker thanks again....

And remember kids, multiplying by 9 always gives you a number where all the digits add up to a number that can be divided by 9

For example:

9 * 3 = 27 and 2+7 = 9 and 9/9 is 1

9 * 1234 = 1107 and 1+1+7 = 9 and 9/9 is 1

9 * 154654 = 1391886 and 1+3+9+1+8+8+6 = 36 and 36/9 is 4

The best way to multiply by nines is...

9x8=...

First: what is one less then 8? 7

So, 9x8=7

Second: What does 7 need to get to 9? 2

So, 9x8=72.

Please like this to keep at the top so children can learn the best way to muliply nines.

Haha, thanks for this video! I learned this many years ago (of course after I had memorized my multiplication tables) and thought it was one of the cleverest things I had seen! You should put up videos on tricks for solving word problems (ie crossing out superfluous numbers / words, how to approach a problem, etc.). You would be surprised at how many people in high levels of math continue to struggle with word problems.
