For anyone doing this, please do note that not all street lights use photo cells, but instead, use timers. But then again, it's easy to tell the difference because the ones working off of timers do not have the photo cell housing at the top. And, most street lights use photo cells anyways, I haven't seen a timer based one in years.

Every street light is going to be different, the sensor on the top of the lights has a little eye that could be directed in different directions, even some could be pointed straight up. It's that eye you have to hit just right to trick it to think its daylight.

I do this all the time. My 200 mW laser owns

the sensors but my 5 mW will get the job done too. If you are having trouble, make sure it has a sensor and if it does most of them are on a certain side.

Yes USA, The sensors on top of street lights are pointed in one direction, here they are pointed away from the streets and some are point straight up. Also on many street lights they have covers on them to keep anything else but sunlight from turning them off. So you are lucky if you can ever turn one off.

When the light goes off on our street its pitch black. Sometimes depends on where you live the police might get mad or someone will hit the pole not seeing it. But it comes back on after 15 mins or so. It comes in handy when your doing fireworks lol.
