Got type 1 like three months ago, im 13 in a couple of days.. I'm using insulin pens, and i'll probably start using pump in ca 6 months, at least so the doctors say :)
I think we should be happy that we live today and not a 100 years ago, then diabetes was like a doom.. Nowadays we have very very good treatment, luckily.

wow she did it with no problem... maybe i need to use the thing she uses to poke my finger...the one ive been using is spring loaded... and the lancet is kinda big but it hurts and i hate doing it... i was givin these little blue ones that you just take the cap off and stab yourself but i cant do it... man im a big baby lol... any tips on making it less painless?
The lancet gizmo she is using comes with the accu-chek aviva glucose monitor. It uses a new type of lancet that comes in a small drum, you are also able to dial in the depth. Maybe you should trying using your forearm it's supposed to hurt even less.
While I don't have diabetes, a friend of mine made two videos on her account. It won't let me post the links, but I think you will enjoy them. Her username is @HeartCOOP. Through her, and another friend, who sadly, passed away of unrelated causes, I have learned about the disease and I an watching random youtube videos to get more of a sence of everyday life.
Hey! Thanks for that! It was very interesting, and I am glad that you decided to share! :)
- Quick questions for ya (or whoever can answer...) --> Most of the meters that I have seen show numbers in the 80-300 range, with the exception of yours, and my friend's (who go from around 1-somewhere above 10) . What is the difference and what is considered average/high on your type of meter?
there are 2 different measurements for blood sugar levels, mmol's and mg/d (which is what is used in the united states) i believe every other counter uses mmol's.
you can convert the mmol's to mg/d numbers by multiplying it by 18, so 6.3 is 113. wish i knew more so i could answer more, but that is why the meters show different readings depending on where you live.
dude i wish mine is 6.3 i 'm only 14 and i have being having highs always 4 like 3months and its so hard its i have like 1 more year to get my blood sugars normal grr lol
Thank you for the post she is a brave little girl I too have diabetes and find it hard to show poeple how we test our blood most people think we use a big needle but we don't keep up the good work
She pricks the side of her finger and it is a very fine needle and is very quick. Her fingertips get a little bit sore sometimes so she uses Hypercal cream (homeopathic) to help them heal. The devices they used in hospital for pricking fingers were much more vicious!
i'm 10 and i diagonsed with type 1 diabetes when i was 16 monthes old. so i have to prick my finger. sometimes it stops me from doing physical things because my number either gets to high or too low. i wanted to tell you that i have a pump which gives me insulin with out using a needle. and its very easy to use. fist you put in your number, than how many carbs you are eating, than it tells you how much insulin to give her. but you would have to take it of in the water. I'm tweleve too. I think I may have diabetes and my parents are getting me tested in janurary. I have constant urination and I'm VERY thirsty 24/7. Also I seem to be loosing weight. I bought myself a meter to try it and the numbers are high. I'm glad to see your handiling it well!
If there's a possibility that you have diabetes Type I, it seems dangerous to me to be waiting until January, especially if the numbers are high on the meter. Please don't wait. Check it out today! If you have it, you could become very ill if you don't get treatment soon. My daughter was very thirsty, peeing a lot and lost 6kg in a month before I realised something was seriously wrong and thank goodness we got her to hospital before anything terrible happened. Please act now.
I'm 12 and i have had diabetes for a little bit over a year i got diagnosed September 14, 2007, I've got use to it and its not something i really think about anymore. It was funny a while ago like a couple months ago i went for an allergy test to see if i was allergic to Glucagon and it tested that i was so i went home and i felt funny and i checked my blood sugars and they were super high and i passed out haha. Good luck!
I've had diabetes for almost 40 years and I can tell you that it only gets worse as you grow older. Keeping fit and moderate blood sugars is your best defense against complications. I've had more problems caused by low sugars than from being high. I've been trucked off in insulin shock many times to awaken in a hospital. I can't use a pump. I didn't like it attached to me and if it quits working your sugars will climb rapidly. Diabetes sucks so good luck.
Thank you. It's so encouraging to see that 8 years down the track it becomes just another part of life. At the moment it is all-consuming as we learn and get used to it. We have a lot of support from the diabetes team, so that helps a lot. Thanks for your positive comment.
She wipes her finger to clean it in case there isn't anything on the skin that would affect the blood glucose reading. Any infection would be extremely rare. It's not like she's injecting anything into a vein.
I was diagnosed with type 1 last June (at 35) and your daughter is doing amazing. I'm still trying to figure out how to properly inject myself. She is practically a diabetes nurse. Very inspiring to see how positive and unfazed she is. It took (and is taking) a lot of getting used to for me as a 35 year old. I don't think I would have been so mature and positive at 12. Your daughter is very inspiring, thank you for the footage.
Hi, Thank you for your encouraging feedback. We have just been on a 2 week trip to Austalia, and faced a few challenges with rising blood glucose levels and frozen insulin in a faulty fridge, and she handled that quite well, considering how tired she got. To come back home and find such nice feedback has made my day, as I am finding this quite stressful as a mother. Thank you.
Thanks. She was injecting herself after 1 week (the morning after coming home from hospital) and has settled into the routine better than I have! (her Mum) Happy Easter!
I have Diabetes type 1. too !! ;) I was diagnosed in October 2010 ;) I'm 14years old...

In one week I measured from 4.5 up to 6.9. Is that an odd fluctuation or normal?
Do you use the same pricker on the pen more than once or change it everytime?

It is really easy once you get accustomed to it. I'm getting a new pump called an omni pod in a few months so I'm looking forward to it =)
