No Gandhi was courageous because of his protest methods for the independence of India. His thoughts outside of that spectrum are irrelevant towards his courage.
And the initial point was that Martin Luther King's courage was not new, because Gandhi did it 40 years before King. And Gandhi was in the Zulu War of 1906. He may have had some dispositions as a young man but with age and iconic status in his religion I highly doubt he was as racist as you're exaggerating.
