Sadly the guitarrist (red shirt) Jimmy McCulloch died of an overdose of heroin 1979, among other things he played bass in the group "the wings" when Paul McCartney played the piano and McCulloch also formed a band called wild horses with Brian Robertson (Geordie, AC/DC.)
Brilliant. Like nikkleson I was also a fan of the Poets. I would love to see a video of the Poets espcially with Johnny Martin. I used to travel all over to see them. Thanks tublerpigeon yer magic.
Went to see them in Kirkintilloch Town Hall. We were in their dressing room all signing McGuiness Flint When I'm dead and gone. It came to the line no epitaph of doom and he asked me what I sang and I repeated the above, and he said when they sung it they didn't know the right words and sang no yabadabado. Still makes me laugh when I think about it.

I think bands like this had a tough time of it because they didn't present themselves as stars. Their clothes left a lot to be desired.

The debut LP by Blue is an out and out classic; like the great lost Badfinger album.

I'm thinking of putting a video of the Poets on you tube...Johnny, Hugh, Dougie and Ian and also David (Hugh's brother)
Fingers crossed, and watch this space....Just uploaded 'Burning Inside' by Hugh Nicholson,
