Maybe I'm not the only one who's had this experience, but once the bubble of the dominant ideology was burst, the ideas of Chomsky are simple to understand. The real effort was bursting the bubble.
journalism is just dead in this is country; 9-11 proves that1 A nearly 2 year study (headed by Niels Harrit from Copenhagen University) is conducted by 9 scientists who, in 2009, release and publish a peer-reviewed paper that details the uncovering a high-tech thermitic explosive in the WTC dust and not a peep from the Times? For shame!
Thank goodness for indie news and sites like Project Censored.
"In The New York Times, 85.8% of articles (28 of 33) that dealt with a country other than the United States using waterboarding called it torture or implied it was torture while only 7.69% (16 of 208) did so when the United States was responsible."
@ 3:14 Chomsky is vindicated decades later! The NY Times stopped calling it "torture" when the Bush administration requested it thereby helping the government manufacture consent.
As a student of Political Science this sadly is not shocking to me. It is almost like my university is preparing me to be in the political elites...not where I want to be. It makes me sick to sit in class and listen to my classmates go along with everything they are fed by the professors. They get angry at me when I speak the truth. :(
College just helps us to get a specialized job...but while we're there we learn how to "critically" think and began to piece together things as they are....
I am an IR student and i am glad to see that there are still people that are objective and have their own opinions on topics. Never give up in what you believe or you just be a follower for the rest of your life. Let me give you a piece of advice that was given to me, as the trees in the winter bend their branches in order for them not to break from the snow until they grow up that is how you should behave, grow until your strong enough to go against the forces of the weather.
@activist180 I'm in the same situation. My professors talk about what a "great thing" Free-Trade Econ is and how they just cant wait to have some MInority Report Orwellian state that "protects" all of us. These are people with Doctorates spouting this garbage to stupid kids who just applaud this as "reasonable" all day long. It's horrible. I sympathize.
@activist180 well you are being prepared to be part of the elite and not to truly want to change anything, or thats my general opinion on academics as it is today. I myself found most academics I went through myself very disempowering in line with my political ideals
@activist180 sorry to hear that......at my university i have noticed the opposite....in fact the last two courses have surprised me because the profs were trying hard to open the eyes of the students to this sort of thing...chomsky, hunter thompson, ect ect.....last one even encouraged us to go home and check out the zetgeist film lol
If you are in the US and watch C-Span, you will see Congress sites the NYT and Washington Post more than any other data source. This is extremely alarming.
The only thing citizens can do is turn to other sources like the London Times, the UK Guardian, and UK Telegraph, then take those news articles and forward them to your elected officials. Print them off and mail them.
When Israel was dropping white phosphorus on Palestinians, I dropped the articles off at my Congressman's house.

KUDOS-The bit with the fake doctors cutting out print that isn't "POLITICALLY CORRECT" is rather clever.

They're academics and not happy with anything unless you back it up with a million citations.

@QwertyBstard Weird they would something to support a claim and not simply all opinions regardless of factual evidence.

Keep it up. It's more risky, but more fun, intelligent, and worthwhile to be the devil's advocate.

In order to change the system one has to become part of it.
If you do not agree with them, do not become the outcast they want you to be.
A day will come when what you decide will be worth your silence.
