i was flashing the voodoo kernel and it kept rebooting to the recovery menu over and over and over no matter what so this helped be reset it to the stock

g2 send you some props man. You saved the day. I flashed darkys gingerbread rom but didnt know it was Galaxy S standard and not ported for the vibrant. Well I was stuck with voodoo version of clockwork mod so I tried re flashing an old gingerbread clone I had. It froze in the flash loading and had erased everything including stock OS drivers :( Thanks for the tutorial, so simple

i have tried flashing my phone..but I keep on getting stuck on cache.rfs. I have tried the setting up the files before I plug my phone in...it still doesn't work...i've tried checking the re-partition box...that gets stuck on cache.rfs as well. Please help

If anyone is stuck at file analysis try this,

it's almost always the fact that you didn't have odin up and running with all the info in ahead of time before you plug the phone in to the usb port.

Do all the odin stuff first, then set the phone up for the download.

@darrrienk you may want to try backing up your internal memory first, remove the SD card, and then Flash the US firmware using Odin, only this time select re-partition device. This usually fixes things if you managed to screw them up somehow. I am however not responsible for any damages to your phone, just a warning to cover myself if something goes wrong(which it shouldnt)

Everything seemed to work, i saw "data wipe failed" in red on the phone as it ran thru its process. And now the phone turns on and goes to the S and then nothing else. Any ideas? Now the bottom buttons are lit up and thats it...

if you have Sprint as a carrier then you can not use any T-Mobile or AT&T phone at all. This has nothing to do with flashing carrier data over. You need a CDMA phone(Sprint or Verizon), this phone as well as all AT&T and T-Mobile phones are GSM. They are physically incapable of running on each other's networks. I reccomend you sell that Galaxy S or switch to T-Mobile or AT&T

That is not totally true if you use the command *#*#4636#*#* on your vibrant you can change whether its GSM or CDMA. Then all you have to do is call Sprint and tell them you want to use the phone, they will ask for the IMEI number and then you will be in buisness.

Thank you so much for saving me $500. I got mine to work again. My experience was as follow. I didn't put the files in the same directory so I didn't get it to work. A day later I changed that and it still didn't work. Guess what the problem was? I was using a different USB port. It wasn't the same usb port I had connected it to when I installed the drivers. I didn't think that would be a problem, although it has happened with other drivers I've used. (ti-89 calculators) I'm just glad it works.

@apxbo1 It's for flashing or restoring it to default out of factory settings. You don't have to do this first before rooting. I did it because I had a software brick. Mine kept getting stuck on "Vibrant" screen.

I'm assuming it's because you don't have the proper drivers, or you are on a 64 bit OS. Odin has huge issues with 64 bit OSes

actually if you check re-partition, it wipes EVERYTHING including the Sims 3 t-mobile data partition(so it will never work again), as well as your internal memory(there goes any pictures you took that you didn't save to the external card) hence why I and almost everyone else recommend NOT checking re-partition. I did this once before before my 14 day return expired, and I exchanged immediately after I did that because I lost the Sims. (Don't really play it but nice to show off :) )

crap. i don't get the android dude when i do the button shtick. i've tried countless times and every time I've tried, I've got the 'battery charging' screen. (the battery with the flashing/moving white dots below). what am i doing wrong?

this is probably the reason why Odin doesn't recognize my phone (i don't ever see the yellow COM field like you do in the video)

@KAYF07 that's what i've been doing but the phone is just a real piece of work. the problem is further complicated by the fact that it seized up on me the second day (bought it aug 31) and i can't even power it up. i see the samsung intro/animation and then it goes blank and doesn't respond to anything.
