Horses were brought to the U.S. and are not native, though they have been here a long time, they are an invasive species just like feral/wild hogs, pythons, feral/wild dogs, cats and many other invasive species that get special attention, money and regulation, over native species. I think thats a double standard and a waste of tax money, but what else is new, the vids are cool though. I have seen them out west and that was cool also.
@TheEmily2904 its not that you're not supposed to touch them you're just not supposed to 'impede their movement and grazing' aka you're not to put a halter and or lead rope or other restraining device on them if they let you come up and pet them thats fine, i got to go out with my aunt when she did some volunteer services for them (she's a vet) and you're more than welcome to pet them if they let you but you should always remember they are wild and if they feel threatened they'll lash out quick
@mequestrain i am going to laugh when one of them gets kicked in the face and has to go to the hospital because they come up and go, "OMG!! Its a wild pony that could kill me with one kick. Let's go mess with him!"
@CheeseCakeExtreme better yet adopt one - they Government rounds them up and I assume put up for adoption. Ones that don't get adopted probly go to slaughter
@crosswind76 Actually the local fire department rounds them up each year and auctions off the foals (they keep a few high quality ones to go back to the island). Every year i've been all the foals were bought, and if they were not for some reason, I am sure they would just go back with the rest of the herd. They also provide farrier and veterinary care for the horses on the island. So don't worry, they aren't being sent to slaughter.
@CheeseCakeExtreme Of course your only thought would be to "take one". To take one would mean that it would not be free anymore just because someone like you "wanted" it for themselves.
@CheeseCakeExtreme I'm sure you meant this in a joking manner, but that's exactly the kind of attitude that caused our wild horses to vanish from the west. People see something as beautiful and free as the wild horses and they can't wait to take it away.
