i saw the same discovery channel show and you should pay more attention. it very specifically said it was an accidental release of its external fuel cell. i would also add that you must have a crappy PC, get a better graphics card. because you can clearly see there's no rocket exhaust on the rear of the tank at all. also, being an air force brat for 18 years and serving 7 of my own. i can assure you the air force never put concrete in a missile,period.

That is a very good pilot, doing the right thing. He had a bird strike, and both engines failed. He dove for the ground to get airflow into the engines in an attempt to restart them. After this failed, he stalled the airplane and ejected at the highest point in his crash in a relatively stationary position so that the debris from his crash did not scatter everywhere (especially not the crowd), and so he had the most time to parachute to a safe position.

The plane at 2:15 actually is hit by an air-to-air missle -- incredible! You can see it deploy from the lower plane's left wing and go straight up into the plane that flies apart.

It was actually a bomb that was being test-dropped and failed to release cleanly from the plane. Instead of going straight down one of the bolts held and flipped it backwards into the chase plane that was observing the test. Even though it was an empty bomb casing with no explosives in it something that heavy striking your wing at that speed is going to result in a bad day. The pilot did eject so he was okay.

The smaller plane (an F4 Phantom, I believe) is behind the larger one and below, off its left wing. Because the image is flat (2D), it can create the optical illusion that the smaller plane is in front and above. The footage is on youtube somewhere but I can't find it.

i have great respect for all pilots - fighter pilots are pushed incredibly hard, but i think the ones that demand the most are commercial airline pilots. because they have no ejection option at all. no safety net. which if i could take that even further the bravest people on a commercial jet are the passengers. putting ur life in the hands of a total stranger with no way out if anything goes wrong.
