I got the ms290 and ms361, both are good saws, i use th e290 for smaller stuff and ms361 for the bigger projects.

361 pro saw. More power. Higher rpm 14k. Easier to work on and rebuild. Professional user. 3/8 chain longer bars to 25 inch.

290 mid range. Occasional user. Harder to work on and rebuild. Not as high rpm. .325 chain. Shorter bars to 20 inch max.

361- tree service use heavy use

290- occasional use at home cut some firewood

This is a good saw. I had one. Traded up for a 361. Much better saw. 290 still a good saw though
