  • Pretty awesome! GOOD job!

  • you remind me a little bit of kevin bridges the comedian!

  • Love it.

  • Now THAT's multitrackin'! Such fun! Thanks for posting. Salute from Houston, Texas.

  • It's an fantastic idea! I like it. yes :)

    Touchdown 26

  • HOW DO YOU MAKE THIS 4 VIDEOS WHAT PROGRAM DO YOU USE??

  • AH!! I was really surprised to see that the bari and lead traded parts at the end of the tag! (at least that's what I think I saw) That's funny because I learned it that way in my quartet! I'm lead so I sang a bit of the bari while she sang the lead HAHA! We didn't even know that it was already done xD

BTW, awesome stuff dude! lol I might sing that tag once I get all the parts down just for fun :)

  • Cheers! Don't you know all the notes for each part? If you don't, I can PM you them.

  • peeep, sounded like clothespin-at-cock. Amazing and brilliant, though =D

  • Never heard that first expression, but thanks anyway haha

  • were you the first to do that switch between the bari and lead or did someone invent that already.

  • Me?! Hell no, man! Haha! Nah, a quartet called "Wheelhouse" decided that the tag to this epic ballad was not awesome enough, so they re-arranged the las page of it and extended the tag. Youtube search "When I Leave The World Behind Wheelhizzy" and you should get a video of Wheelhouse performing the entire ballad.

  • oh my goodnes i heard that overtone that is amazing=0

  • Cheers! I thought it was quite good, myself, and it's probably the one reason I didn't completely re-do the tag when the entire middle section was blasted away by computer-related swindle! Proof that you don't need pitch-correction to get awesome overtones!!

  • dude theres totally someone moving in the background of your tenor part (grey hoodie) is it the missus?

  • Sure is, man! She ninja'd her way into the two well-lit parts!

  • Just a critique, but you sharped the tenor jump on "the world" by a hair mate. Otherwise, good stuff.

  • Gaah! Evil falsetto - maybe I should have shouted it ; )

  • :29-:32 =] btw you should check out my first multitrack =]

  • Yeah, I was quite happy with the final chord, myself! Will look at your multi-track now...

  • Damn, you just got owned by Simon man :) He did a hell of a job :D

  • He sure did do a hell of a job, but I still got all my chords to ring - even with my half-arsed hardware - so I'm stoked with what I've done here and don't feel belittled by his version!

As well as a good voice, Simon has the equipment and the technical experience/know-how to make anything he does sound awesome, so I wouldn't begin to compare my version to his. Cheers for the comment though, wanker : p

  • hahah yeah, but anything simon does is just not fair - that guy's got talent and editing savvy coming out the wazoo.

and Matt, if you see this, beautiful screaming E overtone there at the end.

  • Cheers, mate. I guess the main difference between us is I can't compete equipment-wise with the big boys (daniscool99 and andrewkesler have some majorly expensive equipment!!!) and unlike finey, I didn't use pitch-correction. I just made lots of takes until I was happy.

I'm extra happy now that my quartet is competing nationally in September and I'm in a youth chorus which is going to compete with the entire chart (wicked tag included) of "When I Leave The World Behind" :D

  • I liked 'em goofy, too. I have a couple of ideas, still. You will hear more from me, just not for a while, now...

  • nicely done man, always loved the tag. the lead jump on "the world" sounded very bright and could have been a little more mellow, even though it wasn't it gave the impressions of being sharp but it still sounded wicked. good job, looking forward to more. timmy b

  • I think the same thing there. I have a very pingy voice when I step up into that range, and I DID sharpen it by a quarter tone or so. Why? Audacity decided to blast away the middle section of my tag for some unexplained reason, and I ended up having to re-do it! I then realised the first section was about a quarter-tone flatter than the end section, so I had to sharpen it up subtly - not subtly enough, as it turns out!! Cheers, though, man! : )

  • Did I really not post on this one? Man alive.

Alright, I totally agree with sonny on the "unsubtle" lead jump at 0:13 from "The-World"

Otherwise, totally awesome. I'll love to hear what you'll cook up once you get the new gear

  • I WILL re-do it one day.... I just realised. I thought Sonny meant the Lead/Bari swap (which I wasn't completely happy with), but you both meant 0:13, right? Hmmm, I amplified that bit because it could barely be heard, but maybe I shouldn't have, eh? Ah, well. Thanks for the feedback, "mang"!

  • Saying that this tag is better than Emmanuel... I think it a matter of opnion, because I enjoy Emmanuel much more than "Leave the world behind".. but that's not important. I'm glad to finally see a serious piece of barbershop from you, man. You should definitely re-do this with better equipement, it's the best one you've done!! Didn't really like the lead going up so unsubtle in the second part, but that final chords made it all good :D Great effort!!

  • By, "the lead going up so unsubtle," did you mean in the middle, where the Lead and Bari swap? The Bari goes up, but I think I know what you mean. It wasn't the smoothest slide. I deliberately staggered it as a technical experiment. I found that particular take was the most pitch-correct and closest to the Lead's sound of the many that I recorded in that particular segment of the tag. It's quite hard to get that upward slide right, without conking out by oversinging and sounding strained!

  • Absolutely brilliant! 5 stars from me! Love, Tamara xx

  • You have quite the Youtube resume as a pop singer! How did you wind up watching/hearing this? You listen to Barbershop often?

  • Nice cant wait to hear you with a new recording device

  • Or see me with a better cam! I had so many dropped frames with this bloody webcam! My videos were skipping like buggery to the point where I had to re-do the parts 'til I got something that wasn't too bad.

  • It's nice to SEE it! ;-)

Thanks for posting this meaningful tag.

  • I've gone a bit emo, haven't I? I started with Smile, but then went to Cry, That's All and Goodbye, World, Goodbye... now "When I Leave the World Behind." You'd think I had a death-wish or something lol!

  • Nice one, Matt!

So you didn't imitate any multitrackers this time? I thought I see AndrewKesler and LeWoVoc.

  • That's merely because my incredible fame has come to represent hooded barbershoppers around the world. ;)

Awesome tag, Matt... I've actually wanted to see you do this for a while now, just wish your mic was a bit better.

  • I might actually re-do this tag one day, just like Saint Simon did a remake of his Emmanuel tag. For the record, I think this tag is a better one than Emmanuel. Emmanuel simply has a lot of parallel moving 5ths between the Bass and Baritone, and doesn't really do anything flashy like the Baritone does in this tag!

If you listen to the ending of this song from "I'll leave the moon above," it sends shivers up the spine. If I get a transcription of it, I'll add that bit in if I re-do this tag.

  • Argh! I meant to say that while this is not a piss-take, you may possibly see nbro085 (top bloke, by the way) in the bottom-left corner, with his trusty space-suit!

  • I totally forgot about that "space-suit" :)! Maybe I should watch some non multitrack videos, too, sometimes.
