  • this looks a lot like heian shodan..?

  • WOOOHOOOO!!!

    Got my green belt today

    (fourth belt)

  • Hey was anyone here at the karate seminar in Ireland around summer?

  • Gaaaahhh!!!!!

    Ranking in exactly one week!!!!!!!

  • @nazacuckoo98 Do you know how to get to the Budokan?......PRACTICE!

  • my fav kata next to san dan :P

  • I'm a Shoto Kan karateka who enjoys watching the same kata done by other schools. I think it offers another way of seeing the kata and looking at what 'they' regard as important.

  • MrSuper Drums. I would not equate no first attack with "karate is block first". Nor would I view the first move in this or any kata as only a block. Go No Sen = Block then Strike, Sen No Sen = Block/Strike same time, Sen Sen no Sen = Strike at the moment your opponent launcehs his attack but faster.

  • @drmark10 - Totally agree. I reason that the whole 'karate commences with a block' idea was probably promoted as a way of introducing karate to the Japanese public and in particular to children.

  • all 'Pinan' kata's start with a block in neko achi dachi (cat stance)

just proves that the way of karate is block first

  • @MrSuperDrums1 Yeah your right, I only realised it now. (Oh also I should be getting my green belt, or fourth belt, in a week) Belt order in my club: 1.White 2.Yellow 3.Orange 4.green 5.Blue 6.Brown 7.Brown with a black stripe (shodan ho, or something) 8.Black
  • @nazacuckoo98

    good luck! where you from?

  • Pinan Nidan/Heian Shodan ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Nice vid, but i thought that was nidan, starting with a high stance instead of middle to punch(what i originally thought to be shodan) xD.

  • thanks I needed a review :)

  • this is pinan nidan

  • @sonicben10 no it's not, they are similar, but this is shodan for sure

  • @sonicben10 pinan shodan not nidan

  • he raised his heel too much.

  • Comment removed

  • there is something very unnerving when he turns his head at the end of the kata..

  • it's just like heian nidan with shorter steps

  • @itsmePerseus heian nidan is very similar as both Funakoshi and Mabuni learned it from master Itosu. Funakoshi adapted it and renamed it to be taught on the mainland.

  • It's Pidan Nidan!

  • @Gwindor97 this is the original name for the kata, from itosu. In some other styles, it is reversed (nidan with shodan).

  • Awesome ! just like i learned it =)

  • this video ws very helpful.......hope 2 see more soon

  • YES!! this is exactly what i needed to learn and this is very helpful. Thank you up-loader.

  • esto es pidan nidan

  • No kiyai? I have never heard of a silent kata. lol.

  • shodan efectivamente

  • es heian shodan efectivamente

  • all of it is good but this is pinan nidan now they changed them

  • Hi, i'm practicing Shotokan style karate.. and in our style this kata is known as "Heian Nidan".

i also noticed some very little difference from this demonstration is that... we use to start the kata by stepping a backstance for the double upper-level block, and for that reverse hammer, we don't stretch the leg forward.. after the back side-kick, and forward knife-hand blocks, we had a fore-arm block along with nukite. after that, all same.. this kata had 4 kia's i remember, here there is none!

  • @LuciferCobra i dont think it is the same kata you are doing. i think you should look it up from the name you know it as..

  • Anybody ever heard of Seito Shito Ryu?

  • great

  • in our style of karate, fushin ryu, this is pinan nidan ^_^

  • @1souljureofluv thats really weird because.. Pinan Nidan means just Pinan Nidan, and Pinan SHodan means just what you saw above here.

  • @PaperAirplaneTutor

    oh thats cool

  • @1souljureofluv This is pinan shodan. Gichen Funakoshi reversed pinan shodan and nidan when he brought "karate" to Japan. He also changed the kanji to be defined as empty hand as opposed to china hand. If this is your nidan than your lineage is from Shoto-Kan. Rumor was NIdan was a little more basic than Shodan, mainly because of the kake ashi dachi in shodan (most don't even do it anymore. "twisting stance". ) I hope this helps.

  • @1souljureofluv NO ITS NOT YOU STUPPIIDDD PERSON!!!!

  • @CharliiePinkBabe1994

Um, stop being an ignorant prick cuz i know what im talking about. i KNOW that this style of karate its pinan nidan, but in MY style, its shodan. READ MY WHOLE POST FIRST BEFORE YOU START ATTACKING ;)

  • YouTube = your down here

  • @ragunix89 For YouTube green belt? I have to know it for my orange belt -_-

  • @SavageCold me too xd/

pinan shodan, nidan, shandan, yodan y Godan (base). Los Waza (suki, uchi, geri, renzoku) teoria y demás.

    jeje

  • Ah sweet I need to learn this for my green belt :D

  • @Ragunix89 I am doing it for my green belt too!! xxx

  • the last hit was age uke?

  • @qwertzuio53 yep, it was :)

  • I Agree With All The People Who Say The Stances Are Short And Cant Be Applied To Useful Effect In Actual shiai . . . but katas are exercised to make you proficient with the technique . . . furthermore during sparring we dont use neko hashi dachi or motodachi . . . we use some thing called a sparring stance and mostly we use ora uchis' and gyaki chukis(reverse punces) and im still a novice btw . . . im just in orange stripe 2 btw nice kata demonstration

  • @hellatiz- I get that in kumite... u NEED to be economical. But katas are demonstrations of application...why do you need to look like ur gonna shit?!

  • super stupid

  • @arrumaeful You are stupid, karate is a powerfull techinque, u cant handle it.

  • I don't understand, there are 2 kinds of Shito-Ryu.

I learn shito-ryu as well, but not this certain kind. They have different moves and stances. I am an orange-stripe belt and I know all of the katas.

    I know:

    Pinan Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan.

Shi Ho Hi - Four Corners

Nin Sei Shi Sho - Dynamic Tension

    -

    Explain?

  • @TacoStoneProduction

There are several kinds of Shito-Ryu. Like different branches. Some follow Mabuni's son's own interpetation of Shito-Ryu, some follow Tani's interpetation and some follow Suzuki's. There are MANY different branches of Shito-Ryu and the kata they have are a little different from eachother.

  • Brown belt grading in 2 days for me, these vids will help heaps refreshing my memory of the Kata's the only part i'm having trouble with

  • Umm.. guys, my orange belt test, is in two weeks, so can somebody tell me the most important think, what to learn before it? Is "Pinan Shodan" one of them?, cause i'm good at it.. but theres some harder moves too, which i'm going to learn more.

  • I never agree with shito ryu. What's with those stances, so short they possibly couldn't reach an opponent... Shotokan is a million times better... Not criticizing really, but shito ryu isn't practical, just showy.

  • @Mangoose95

Why do Shotokan martial artists have to telegraph to the whole world what their next step is. What a waste of energy to have such a long stance, long blocking, long punching. In a fight, you need to be economical and to use your opponents momentum.

  • what are the sound effects for?????????

  • That's really from the kimono =D Mine does the same sound

  • @bagun Really? cuz If you did any martial arts at all you'd know its called a gi.

  • @capinilla gi? what is that? sorry i'm not understanding. Yes, I do also shito ryu

  • @bagun KIMONO?!?! WHAT ON EARTH. its called a Gi

  • @CharliiePinkBabe1994

    i mean nidan

  • @CharliiePinkBabe1994 Sorry, ehehe, but in Portugal we call it kimono =) Thanks

  • @bagun yeah the heavy ones are damn noisy, just walking down a crowded hall you can be heard lol.

  • @bagun It's called a Gi - a Kimono is an article of clothing worn for more special occasions ;). But that is where the noise comes for sure!

  • @bagun It's not a kimono, it's a Gi ;)

  • those aren't sound effects..you get that snap sound if you have a heavy 14 oz gi..and i am sure he is mic'ed

  • @deerhunter45628 i have a 14oz gi and mine does exactly the same x

  • It's the Snapping of the Gi, show's that your technique is strong and executed well

  • Pinan Shodan = Heian Nidan

    Pinan Nidan = Heian Shodan

  • In Shukokai this is shodan and is the sixth kata. Nidan is first (or second if you are in the kid's class, at my dojo at least).

  • its pinan shodan

  • I heared,

    nowtime it is syodan.

    longtime ago,it was nidan.

  • syodan? its still pinan nidan. Motobuha shitoryu still calls it pinan! :D

  • It is Pinan shodan. The second kata.

  • this is kata is pinan shodan and pinan nidan is when u start with cat stance arm block the first kata u start with lower block deep stance

  • who is the stupid that say's this is shodan??

  • this is shodan u idiot i do this style and this is wht my sensei taught me but this kata has different variations like the first kata

  • IT IS SHODAN!

its only not shodan in shotokan and that means the minority!

    have u know learnt that!

  • this is crap.

  • hey nobody knows better right?

  • That´s not shodan , is nidan and he doesn't do it very well !!

  • Is shodan ( in shito-ryu )

  • Is Nidan, behind in the times nidan was the first pinan that people teach but nowadays it change , i know that is a pinan from the shito - ryu stile

  • @miguethebest I noticed that as well.

  • I am working on this one and anakou now in the Hakusuturu style Okinaiwan.

  • pinan shodan? isn't nidan?

  • i think there's alot of confusion as to which is which for pinan shodan an nidan, some shitoryu organisations have them one way or another, and the organisation i study under has 2 versions of the pinans (we call them A and B) (in the old version pinan shodan is the nidan version in the new version, and pinan nidan is shodan, if that makes sense?) good kata tho, and this is a good/strong version of pinan shodan ^_^

  • waa! he makes me feel so weak! XD lol im a white belt and we started working on that so I guess I can still improve ^^ I hope i can b like that good

  • no it is pinan shodan

  • I do Karate Shito Ryu and I've learnt this kata as Pinan Nidan,I'm orange belt now!..

  • there was no Kiai .....

His stances were really good though. This Kata is diffucult towards the last bit

  • verified this is Pinan shodan of the shito ryu karate, i just graduated to next rank along with this kata tested by Fumio Demura and yes its the 2nd kata

  • this guy is doin it wrong xD

  • it may not be wrong, just different. i was taught a slightly different way and the way it is done may vary depending on the style.

  • In Shito ryu style is this called Pinan Shodan. It's more difficult than Pinan Nidan so karate-ka are learning Nidan first. This is system of Piana nkatas. Pinan kata and Heian kata are the same. Except of that in Heian numbering is Pinan Nidan called Heian Shodan because it'đ easier. And Pinan Shodan is called Heian Nidan. In Shito Ryu of course.

  • Very interesting, in the style i take shotokan that would be nidan. I'm shocked at how similar the styles are.

  • y there is no kiai?

  • lol that is shodan all right, at my school u learn pinan nidan first before pinan shodan

  • Pinan Nidan and Pinan Shodan were reversed by Funakoshi for teaching purposes into Heian Shodan and Heian Nidan. Technically, the numbering order doesn't necessarily mean that is the order that they are taught or should be taught. My school (Kobayashi) may teach Nidan before Shodan based on the level of the student.

  • i do ryo bukai, i can never find it on youtube though.

  • this is pinan nidan... different styles call it shodon i guess.

  • what style are you from?

  • perfect stances

  • It is zenkutsu dachi, though, but in the video it seems like moto dachi. Otherwise, we call this kata "Pinan Nidan" (shito ryu style)

  • This seems the same as Wadu Ryu kata Pinan Shodan. Pardon me if I am wrong but it just seems exactly the same.

  • es shodan

  • ok to those who don't know, this is pinan shodan. Funakoshi is the one who changed the name to nidan because for some unknown reason this kata is taught after learning nidan(maybe cuz its harder, maybe). so you could say all shotokan practicioners are wrong or you could say Funakoshi just changed alot of names for kata, either way it doesn't matter. historically this is shodan, atleast to those of okinawan shuri-te (shorin-ryu) based systems.

  • rephlecs you are correct sir this is shodan

  • If I remember correctly it's indeed because Pinan nidan is easier + all punches. You get your first kick in a kata with pinan shodan.

  • It's funny, because in my system, we learn Nidan after Shodan.

  • yah i remember hearing about this its like in japanese karate they do NIdan because its easier but in okinawan karate they use Shodan. i dont know why tho lol. i could be wrong tho.

  • same here...Nidan starts with the leg block into the cat foot stance with a chest block

  • Hey bro you got pinan nidan and pinan shodan mixed up bud

  • he didnt mix it up. in japan they call them the inverse way

Saludos.

  • The individual moves look simpler than Pinan Yodan Shito Ryu but it seems to be longer. Thank you for posting this videos it will be very helpfull for my purple belt.

  • so im kinda confused i thought there were many forms that were long chains...do people just put together different katas to perform??

  • i practise karate and i dont find ant mistakes. i would like to see him perform all katas from junino . but the upper block we do is slightly different now.

  • Thanks for posting this

  • ask yourself if any of those techniques would woyk i say no master kyan did not teach this kata that way

  • well as you can see the power comes from the hips i see nothing wrong with it. lol i am from Goju and learning Shitu Ryu, i see alot of differences since Goju is a traditional karate with little to none changes.

  • Bravo bravo nice movements and very strongly performed, i enjoy it as 1st dan.Thnx

  • I'm sorry to say that the use of the hip in the nukite tsuki is wrong. realise that he is doing a double-hip, is not worthy for a black belt showing a kata on a public video.

  • I know a variation of this kata, it's neat to see how things change.

  • No its like this in order, Taikyoky shodan (something), pinan nidan , pinan shodan, pinan sandan, matsumora nora hai (something).

Atleast in our style of karate.

  • at one point nidan was shodan and shodan was nidan ..so ive been told...

  • True. Changed by Funakoshi for the JKA and renamed Heian nidan.

  • True, i was watching those videos and i was thinking about that, a long time ago when i used to do karate was in that order and with some diferents as well on the kata, watching that makes me to get back into it.

  • isn't this nidan?? in shotokan??

  • WHY DOES HE TURN HIS BACK1?! ARRRGGH!!! lol... I was trying to learn it and he does moves where i can't see...dang nab it lol--- nice though :D

  • When he has his back turned, he does right inside-outside block with left foot forwad, right front kick, left reverse punch with right foot forward, left inside outside block with right foot still in front, left front kick, right punch and I learned this block as "assistant block" which is right insideu outside block with left fist at the right elbow I guess. Hopefully that helps

  • Yes, thank you very much :D

  • This is the latest kata that I learned. Next is Pinan Yandan.

  • Hey, I just learned this kata. =]

  • thats definatly shodan

  • In some style's it is nidan, and in some it's shodan.

  • yeah, wtf's up with that???

  • Could be sohdan but I learned it like Nidan. Only I said Sotokan cause I think there, this kata is Heian shodan.

  • I learned it as Nidan also, but In many style it's shodan since it's easier.

  • this looks like Sotokan, beacouse that´s no Shodan in Sito Ryu and his positions arn´t the same. Here the atacks movement arn´t in Zenkutsu dachi. Nobody think the same??

  • no thats pinan shodan alright... and its shito ryu! i when through this kata... it just alittle bit old.. b.c sensei has changed many times!

  • the way i'm being taught kata, most of pinan (heian) katas use moto dachi for attacks and zenkutsu for defense

  • although the shuto uke obviously use neko ashi dachi

  • really that guy should use more kiai!

  • i got promoted for yellow belt and 1 stripe with pinan shodan and my blue belt promotion is next week and i forgot this kata and tenshiki drill and takiouko hich ni san

  • jaik666, geminivirgoaquarious and goukaku3391 the zenkutsu dachi that is performed by shito practitioners is alot shorter than the shoto and wado practitioners, which use a longer and deeper dachi.

the different movements in kata are a interpretation of different sensei's over a long period of time

and to add confusion with dachi there is hanzenkutsu dachi (half front stance).

please enjoy the pleasure with many years of training.

    ous

  • kuniwchiwa ahhm what belt are you?

  • This kata is perfect, that's real shito ryu from japan. The people who made this video are the no 1 team in kata in japan. I repeat, this kata is perfect!

  • im orange belt now and i need to learn this kata... very kool

  • really? i thought that this was a yellow belt kata? i thought orange to green was pinan sandan :P

  • Pinan shodan is the first kata in the pinan series, but a long time ago, some masters realized it was harder, and switched it with pinan nidan for yellow belt to orange belt.

  • huh i did pinan shodan for yellow belt

  • It depends on the style, I did pinan nidan for yellow belt, and pinan shodan for orange.

  • ohh i do mixed martial arts.

  • pinan nidan

  • yes, I think it´s pinan nidan too (the second of five basics)

    OSS.

  • I took yellow belt on december and now im in the way for the orange and as i ca see this guy does pinan shodan very well..

  • Ive practiced this kata thousands of times, and this guys zenkusaduche are way to short and he is standing way to high, and his turns are very studdery, theres no decisive clean step

  • I'm only orange belt (hence watching this to practise) and noticed that his zenkutsu dachi was too short. Surely if I can tell then he must be doing it badly?

  • Yeah, I could spot some 'wrong' things in these videos as well. I think that their goal is to give a general display of the katas' movements rather than show perfect form.

It doesn't make a lot of sense otherwise.

  • good
