Very nice overall...can't wait to hear it after you've got everything memorized! I thought the opening was pretty rushed and matter-of-fact, but you really caught fire and kept the spirit of the piece from 3:55 on. I am really impressed by your evident grasp of the structure and ability to express its emotions. When you get the chance, have a listen to Louis Lortie's new recording of Les Années de Pelerinage on Chandos, also Poizat in the Vallée d'Obermann here on YouTube.
@UncleNathan I will listen to Lortie's recordings when I have a chance... a friend introduced me to the Chopin Etudes recordings by that pianist, but that is all I have heard so far. I agree the start was rushed... I see Liszt says 72 BPM. I just tempo-tapped myself and I'm playing around 80 BPM (with lots of fluctuations) so it is a bit fast. I will surely try to enhance the structure more... the start of piece reminds me a lot of Beethoven's Op.77 with the starts and stops-
What a touching piece. Shame I've never heard it before, so this performance is a path breaker to me. One should always upload a video keeping in mind that it may be a first impression to someone.
.
It suits my today's mood so well... In two days I'm selling my upright piano for 1k $ (what's worse I get none of that money). Farewell, my dear and only Weinbach, so well recognised by YT viewers! But, Eric, there's no need to grieve, from now on I'll record on August Förster grand (HSE property).
@f1f1s Well I hope that your 1st impression was a good one. I first heard all 3 books of the Années de pèlerinage played by Lazar Berman (one of my 1st Liszt CDs I bought). His playing isn't as mind-blowing fast as his recordings of the Transcendental Etudes, but they are a much better high quality studio recording. His playing is thoughtful, clear, and intelligent- though I think if you were to have heard him play one of them live, he would be much more aggressive with some pieces.
@ReturnOfTheStienway My next recordings I would suggest are Jerome Rose's recordings, Cziffra's and Brendel's - I don't think he recorded the 3rd book though. You should make one lasting recording on your upright piano before it goes, but I'm sure once you get that new GRAND you'll forget all about it, lol. What's the size of the grand BTW?
@ReytheCoolestLoser2 It's my best recommendation and I did a lot of reviewing for prices and value before I bought it. It is one of the few webcams which will record audio in STEREO =)
