You chose to take the discussion to a less fortunate level by stating how your Canadian standards etc, etc,.. That's enough for this ridiculous topic, good luck with your career. Hope you accomplish even half of what I've done in mine.
Actually my stats are impressive and you'll be very fortunate if you ever come remotely close to achieving them. As for whether or not you weren't discussing engines, my point was driven by two of your comments: 1) "just fyi engines don't stall, wings do". 2) "the term 'stall' in the context of airplanes (and more drivel)" ..
Sexybanana... the landing was not 'rough', it was pretty normal. The problem was NOT that the nose gear would not extend, the aircraft did NOT land on the nose. The nose gear was turned sideways and would not center for the landing - that's all. Ah yes, facts, wouldn't it be something if people actually cared to find them before stating something.
i really want to punch that big shot talking in the backround.....when making a crsh landing the nose woulnt be point straight up 2 reasons pilot can see shit and the engine would stall and crash.
the term "stall" in the context of airplanes not include the engines its all to do with lift and speed, sarcastically: its not like the pilots forget to shift so they stall? get my point ?
not entirely true - we use the term 'stall' in the case of turbine engines with respect to failure of airflow over the compressor blades; i.e. compressor stall. However, when an aircraft stalls, you are correct, we refer to the aerodynamic stall - breakup of airflow over the wings. I'm a 747 captain if you need the reference.
in canada (which has the highest aviation standards in the world) when referring to stall in the context of an aircraft its generally when the wings/ aircraft lose lift (im not sure what you mean about air breaking up over the wings =s) but im sure that for the sake of argument you are right that a compressor stall is yet still logical.
I'm sure the standards in Canada are fine. I've got licenses from several countries including Holland so I don't hold a candle to anyone. You don't understand stall because it's probably not one your duties as a flight attendant. That's ok - in my 42 years of flying and 26,000 + hours, many as an instructor check airman, I've met many novices who don't really catch the concepts. The facts are what they are - we very commonly use the term stall for compressor airflow breakdown. By the way,
I understand your concern all you had to do was explain your thought process. and by the way please do not insult my intelligence with your unimpressive stats, because im also a pilot present occupation is flight attendant, and my father is a pilot with less years more hours experience. and maybe things are different in europe but we are to the point in north america and i wasnt talking about the engines in the first place, so this public conversation has gone on long enough.
With respect to aerodynamic stall, the air does not break up over the wings, the AIRFLOW breaks down, i..e. goes from a laminar, smoothly flowing state to a random turbulent state. The result being that lift is lost. My whole point regarding your comment is that with respect to turbine engines, they most certainly DO stall, however, when we speak of an aircraft stalling, the reference IS to the wings stalling. Turbine stall is the more common event but not neccessarily the more deadly.
@superchaoo7 clearly you are not in aviation industry... i'm in an aviation industry, and we don't call that a "crash" landing... no offence to LA ppl... i'm just sayin..
@superchaoo7 well what i meant was we los angeles people get exited about news and exaggerate them, and i'm not in the aviation industry and i still know what crash is but that's not what i'm talking about.
It's an incident, not a crash! These are the same people that run out in their front yards (usually with no shirt or shoes) when they see on T.V. that a police chase is going to pass their street.
I remembered that. It was on September 21, 2005. This was B6292 en route from BUR to JFK. All 146 survived without any injuries. But the pilot was wise enough to make this decision.

Hmm. I'm a private pilot so I know a little about planes. Try this scenario: Nose gear snaps as soon as the plane puts weight on the sideways nosewheel.
