The ironic thing is that the eco lodges that were destined to be the park's 'replacement' have not come to fruition.
I visited the site a few weeks ago, and remnants of the old railway are still there; including sections of trackbed, most of the forest, the station building, etc. But the tunnels and cuttings have all been filled in. The site itself is now just an abandoned building yard.
...what a waste, eh? You close a crowd-pulling business and it just makes things worse :p
@chrix2 You can try looking, but it's private property. I was fortunate enough to run into the woman who lived next to the site who told me about the current situation.
It's a pretty sorry sight. I wouldn't go if you're faint-hearted
I visited the Forest Railroad as it was every years from the year it was opened in the 70's and cant understand why the Southern family decided to sell it all. I now live in Cornwall having moved from London and live about 10 minutes from Dobwalls. Just glad that all my kids got to see all the trains and the park before they closed. I guess that the Southern family decided that property was better than railways and even better than Pig Farming ! IT WILL BE MISSED
Yeah, it is a great shame, but we have to be lucky that the trains did not move far - I was expecting them to move to the USA actually. While their new home could perhaps never replace the original Dobwalls, the developments look very promising so at least they are not lost forever!
I loved this place. I'm heartbroken and so are my kids. I went as a child and have been taking my kids for years, couldn't make it last year and was about to visit this year when I found out I was already too late. What a loss for Cornwall and Kids of all ages everywhere.

They get rid of a classic place like this to put in some poncey art gallery. Says it all about the modern age doesn't it?
