This was an 8 player double round robin tournament, the same format as was used for the FIDE World Chess Championship 2005. This tournament was won by Viswanathan Anand, thus making him the current World Chess Champion.

Anand is a great player and even a nicer person than Kramnik, but to be world champion you must beat the 14th world champion in a match (not make draw with Leko to win a tournament). Anand didn't even beat Kramnik in the games they played, and was lucky to escape with draws in both games.

No matter what FIDE says, in the chess community, Anand will never be accepted as a true world champion, if he does not beat Kramnik in a MATCH for this title.
