Right before the fuel tank was dropped, you see flashes or something like flames around the space shuttle. It's circular shaped around the shuttle and at 09.15 you hear a "boom". Does it have something to do with the engines or what is it?
Fuel tank gets drop about 8 minutes after launch, it HAS NOT establish a orbit with that speed yet. then the Tank will fall back down around indian ocean. the shuttle, will then fire its engine few times to increase orbit size and attitude. so it will not freefall back down the earth.
I wanted to go to Flordia before 2010, before the last mission. I live in Kansas, so I wanted to see this in real life, TV does not shows the experience, my own eyes & ears can.
no! it was MAY 31, 2008. STS 124. the one you saw was STS 119 last week. the flight number was disorganized because of the accident of STS 107, Columbia. things went out of order.
fantastic! I love every space launch!! This was great because instead of cutting out after the launch they followed the Discovery into space, amazing stuff these people can do!
yeah thats to bad they are discontinuing the shuttles in 2010. ): But guess what kevmccln, you don't have to wait as long as you think because Ares 1-x is luanching in april of 2009!! (: Not tested but actually launched!!
Shuttle launches won't be going on for much longer. We better enjoy these while we can. Only seven launches left, then nothing until Orion in 2014... if that.
Boring? You don't understand what's happening. This is almost technically impossible, and highly dangerous, with equipment operating at the extreme range of physical performance.
we will mis u discovery:(

i was there! its was breath-taking!
you never realise how amazing it is until you see a life launch.
me n my family were on holiday in florida when we saw it, i remember the day exactly! it was so busy at the KSC but soooo worth it!
we watched it from as close as the general public are allowed :)

I dont want to bring down anyone's mood, but I wonder how the 51-L launch would have looked with all those different camera views and the hi-def.
