We are so over built in commercial we will not re over there in our lives. Today I saw a nice mall in a great area writen down 66% for starters. Commercial land and buildings in general will loose value for at least a decade most places.
I have netflicks so WC about blockbuster to much a hassle to deal with their over priced video rentals and who needs to own videos anyway I see folks buy videos everyweek it is their money but when I go to a yardsale I see the same videos they paid $17 a piece for being sold for $2 folks don't want to store all that junk. I watch movie on netflicks online more and more we have videos mailed to us but I watch mostly online. They will turn them into concentration camps to kill the homeless.

easy to get 3 bed 2 bath in Spokane, WA for a possible $700 a month, apartments possible to find a good one around $450, to $500. Compared to two years ago house rents was twice as much and apartment renting was blown out of control. I do think prices was going into into the roof two year ago. But I think values of houses should go down to 1999 values...

i don't think blockbuster is a great example of the trouble retail is in. blockbuster is simply obsolete, the interenet and direct TV have by far replaced it as the consumer preference. i can buy a digital copy of a movie for a about the same price as a rental at blockbuster and i get to keep it forever.

blockbuster and other movie stores are in trouble because of things like netflix, and other new movie rental concepts like red box which are sitting inside of grocery stores etc.
People will just knock off those crops, farming is hard work, if people get laid off it will give them spare time to grow food for themselves, but yeah, growing food is a full time job.

You failed to mention Blockbuster's competitor RED BOX. It is a vending machine that costs $1/per movie rental. I used to rent from Blockbuster regularly sometimes 2-3 movies at a time. I don't go there anymore.

Are the vacant homes in the beginning part of the Shadow Inventory that the banks don't put on the market in order to not overwhelm the housing market? I haven't gone to a blockbuster in 4 years, I use to go all the time, but they came into an area, competed with local video rental places, closed them out and then raised their prices. Unless I go to the movie theatre, I don't watch movies anymore, thanks blockbuster.

I can get a camera, film empty locations and say its 99% vacancies, not hard to do. I don't think you're lying though, well completely at least. I do think you need to factor in, cheap labor, low cost materials and real estate in the picture. Sure, its not renting now, but constructing these buildings for 1/10th of the price does paint a pretty picture for the future for these real estate firms.
I don't think that he's lying, we had a great shopping district here in Crystal Lake, Illinois, very popular, in the last two years I would say about 30 to 40% of the stores are now vacant. It's a lot worse in towns that were not a popular. The traffic use to be so thick on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon that I would never shop during that time, now the traffic just flows and you don't get stuck waiting like we use to.

The retail collapse is even hitting here in Massachusetts, a state with biotech, education and health care excellence. The real of the USA is screwed even more. Anyone who is optimistic about the economy is living in a dreamworld. Save your damn money and protect your family.
Cont... The woman in the video cleverly will buy a lot of frozen foods (fries, veggies, fruits) and dehydrates them. It's as simple as buying the frozen products, putting it on a tray and leave it in the machine for about half the day. Considering the machine has 9 trays you can dehydrate and stack away quite a bit in a short period of time. A few buckets of wheat, and a few other staples is all you need for a year or more of emergency food. Well worth looking into.
One thing I really want to bring to the attention of people is dehydrating food. You can buy fruits and vegetables in bulk and get a cheap machine for about $159 to dehydrate it. Store that food in a large plastic drum or smaller #2 buckets and it'll last you 30+ years. Why do this? You'll have insurance for your family in tough times like we are heading into. There's a nice woman on youtube that has the best videos. Just type "how to dehydrate and store food" to find her videos.

I use to own a small apartment complex on 14th in Riverside, near the justice center. I had to sell it due to the fact that so many houses were being rented, that it made no sense to rent an apartment. My rents were reasonable, but for maybe a couple/three hundred bucks more, you could get a house. Share it with rommies/family and you could get just as much space, with yard/gargage/storage, why live in an apartment. I had to face reality and got out, just in time. Thanks for your work.

The Inland Empire/Orange County grew because of cheap oil. The highway/road projects made fortunes for some and created the capcity to move far away from where one earned a paycheck. George, where have you been the last 30 years? The most overly retailed country in the world is true and known for many years. This trend started about 30 years ago. Too many shops, too many services and the consumers fuelling it all like drunken sailors on furlough. Except that the furlough has been going on for decades now, piling on credit. Nobody put a gun to the head of Mr & Mrs consumer and forced them to keep buying until they were maxed out. That is what you should report on.

easy to get 3 bed 2 bath in Spokane, WA for a possible $700 a month, apartments possible to find a good one around $450, to $500. Compared to two years ago house rents was twice as much and apartment renting was blown out of control. I do think prices was going into into the roof two year ago. But I think values of houses should go down to 1999 values...

i don't think blockbuster is a great example of the trouble retail is in. blockbuster is simply obsolete, the interenet and direct TV have by far replaced it as the consumer preference. i can buy a digital copy of a movie for a about the same price as a rental at blockbuster and i get to keep it forever.

You failed to mention Blockbuster's competitor RED BOX. It is a vending machine that costs $1/per movie rental. I used to rent from Blockbuster regularly sometimes 2-3 movies at a time. I don't go there anymore.

Are the vacant homes in the beginning part of the Shadow Inventory that the banks don't put on the market in order to not overwhelm the housing market? I haven't gone to a blockbuster in 4 years, I use to go all the time, but they came into an area, competed with local video rental places, closed them out and then raised their prices. Unless I go to the movie theatre, I don't watch movies anymore, thanks blockbuster.

I can get a camera, film empty locations and say its 99% vacancies, not hard to do. I don't think you're lying though, well completely at least. I do think you need to factor in, cheap labor, low cost materials and real estate in the picture. Sure, its not renting now, but constructing these buildings for 1/10th of the price does paint a pretty picture for the future for these real estate firms.

I don't think that he's lying, we had a great shopping district here in Crystal Lake, Illinois, very popular, in the last two years I would say about 30 to 40% of the stores are now vacant. It's a lot worse in towns that were not a popular. The traffic use to be so thick on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon that I would never shop during that time, now the traffic just flows and you don't get stuck waiting like we use to.

Cont... The woman in the video cleverly will buy a lot of frozen foods (fries, veggies, fruits) and dehydrates them. It's as simple as buying the frozen products, putting it on a tray and leave it in the machine for about half the day. Considering the machine has 9 trays you can dehydrate and stack away quite a bit in a short period of time. A few buckets of wheat, and a few other staples is all you need for a year or more of emergency food. Well worth looking into.

One thing I really want to bring to the attention of people is dehydrating food. You can buy fruits and vegetables in bulk and get a cheap machine for about $159 to dehydrate it. Store that food in a large plastic drum or smaller #2 buckets and it'll last you 30+ years. Why do this? You'll have insurance for your family in tough times like we are heading into. There's a nice woman on youtube that has the best videos. Just type "how to dehydrate and store food" to find her videos.

I use to own a small apartment complex on 14th in Riverside, near the justice center. I had to sell it due to the fact that so many houses were being rented, that it made no sense to rent an apartment. My rents were reasonable, but for maybe a couple/three hundred bucks more, you could get a house. Share it with rommies/family and you could get just as much space, with yard/gargage/storage, why live in an apartment. I had to face reality and got out, just in time. Thanks for your work.

The Inland Empire/Orange County grew because of cheap oil. The highway/road projects made fortunes for some and created the capcity to move far away from where one earned a paycheck. It's over and IE is going to get killed. Eventually so should OC but they get SO much money from military. Eventually it will fall apart due to the collapse of the FIRE economy...

That's pretty grim. I'm in San Diego and believe me, it's almost as bad here. My coworkers are all hanging on for dear life. I hate to rub it in but as a Canadian citizen I am happy that I can always go back home, but I feel badly for those who are trapped here in the USA. It's sad. California is turning into a frikking wasteland. My sister lives in Oregon and she and her boyfriend want to move to Texas. I only wonder how long until all states follow in CA's footsteps.

George, where have you been the last 30 years? The most overly retailed country in the world is true and known for many years. This trend started about 30 years ago. Too many shops, too many services and the consumers fuelling it all like drunken sailors on furlough. Except that the furlough has been going on for decades now, piling on credit. Nobody put a gun to the head of Mr & Mrs consumer and forced them to keep buying until they were maxed out. That is what you should report on.

Enjoyed the video but Blockbuster Videos closing down isnt news or shocking. Even if the economy was booming I would bet that there wont be any more Blockbusters in 5 years. The days of video rentals are over. That has nothing to do with the economy

Commercial real estate loans are the next big wave of toxic crap which will be dumped into the FED, our nation's secret outhouse for stinky loans. If the FED ever gets audited, they will have to wear hazmat suits while uncovering the crap loans on their books.
Big commercial projects like that are also sometimes owned by REITs and insurance companies which hide the problems deep within their accounting dept. It's just a footnote in some boring SEC report.
