Most of the Muffs I have tried have a sweet spot on the tone nob for a mid/bass boost. Its really sweet to run a booster into the muff in that sweet spot. Gives it a windowshaking sound.
There's no reason to pay more for the USA model. I made that mistake. It's fizzy and lacks warmth. If you want the classic muff sound (whether you fell in love with it from the original pioneers or the 90's rebirth) the Russian one is the way to go. The circuit is the same. The Russians aren't screwing with it. And it has True Bypass and adapter capability now. It's a crazy good deal.
I can only really use mine with an Ibanez TS-808 before it giving it some character, find it too harsh otherwise. I also own a NYC Little Big Muff and the Graphic Fuzz. All give distinctly different sounds. Nice Demo!!! (Nice Jag) (Drool) :p
Good point about the tone, ironically i use my Big Muff with the tone around 9 o'clock. It is excellent for boosting low end on a Marshall JCM combo and it also sings when cascaded into a Tubescreamer.
That may sound messy, but it really is a great sustaining tone with smooth feedback.
does the russian muff have mids? the normal NYC muff i had has no mids, I couldn't use it in a band situation at all, it's like stepping on a tuner. :)
if your having problems with that sort of thing you should get a EQ pedal, this thing is pretty much the same as the regular big muff just has a slightly different sound
no, that's a common problem, that's why skreddy, way huge, blackout effectors and even electro harmonix recently make muffs/muff variants -- they have midrange and cut through perfectly. I have plenty of midrange in my clean tone anyway (Ac30) boosting it/putting it in a loop would be too much of a hassle.
Dude, come to America. People will pay just to hear you talk.

@MrWavyDavyBoy From what I've heard, the version of the Big Muff für bass has a very similar circuit to the russian one.

Any tone problems can be fixed by a 6 or 10 band eq.

Most people think the current reissue (which is what you have) is terrible. That's why it seems kind of generic.

The point of a fuzz pedal (which any big muff is) is to have no mids. You should have done some research before buying the pedal.
