  • Why is there two different alarms ?

  • @paul9511 There is 2 alarms, one for the normal fire alarm from the panel, the other is for the suppression system- so if u hear the second alarm u know tht the suppression system is active,

  • looks like a giant cake

  • "I dare someone to go jump in it"

  • At 0:41 is that cutting oil getting pushed out of the pipe?

  • @MrJaybee61

No, just rusty water from the tests prior to this one. We flowed it several times prior to this using water only to flush the lines.

There was no threaded pipe in the system, all grooved black sch 40 steel, galvanized is forbidden in foam systems.

  • thats a fuckload of fire alarms

  • A few days ago there was a false alarm And the whole hangger got filled up under 1 min. Everyone was running to the scene and it was a windy caused us to close part of the air field and there was about 8 planes in the hanger. One helicopter with the engine opened but luckly the the guy remebered to close the door

  • @chineesmunk

    Was it at Eglin?

  • @dano3999 no NJ teterboro

  • too slow 60 sec times up

  • @virus56777

60 seconds to cover the planes sillouette. This hangar isn't designed to house any particular aircraft so the 60 second rule was waved.

4 minutes to 1 meter was all that was required by the AHJ.

  • @dano3999 can schools have those kind of sprinklers?

  • @eureka800

I am assuming you are kidding. Why would you fill a school with foam.

High Ex foam is only used to fight 3 demensional fires where fuel can flow freely around and under the planes wings.

Water is used in most cases like schools where the fire would be wood, paper etc, foam usually when a fuel fire is the hazard.

  • @dano3999 did you know that fire alarm systems reverse some fans when a fire is detected?

  • @dano3999 what about in an auto shop?

  • @joek0617

It is used to fight a fire that is considered 3 dimensional, meaning a planes wings are so large they cover a lot of floor space. If there is a fire under one its hard for a regular water type system to reach the fire where the foam engulfs everything. In an auto shop, you do not have such a large area of floor being covered. Even with a fuel fire in an auto shop, it can usually be controlled by the employees with a hand held extinguisher. Not huge amounts of fuel in cars like a plane

  • @dano3999 good point... however, my school doesn't even have sprinklers in ours...

  • @joek0617

That is according to the year it was built. They are grandfathered in before it was required. It also varies greatly from state to state and from city to county as far as the codes they have adopted and if they are enforced.

In my area around MIssissippi and Alabama they have recently started requiring new house to have firesprinklers if they exceed a certain sq footage.

  • @dano3999 ahhh... ok, that might explain it... the main bldg has it, but not our shop

  • Hey Brandon. I designed and performed all the calculations on this system. I was right below you on the 2nd level. It was pretty impressive to see live huh?

I am with ICFP. If you want to see the professional video I had shot let me know. As soon as he is finished editing it I will upload it so you can see.

    Later

    Dan

  • @dano3999 How big is the tank?

  • @inayclone

It is a 1000 gallon foam tank. It mixes at 2%. We didn't fill it all the way up since it wasn't required. It has around 800 galllons in it.
