i have seen a few vids like this whare they say and we finish off with examination of the private parts, first what does that have to do with the stomach? and secondly would a doctor do that if you went to the doctor with upset stomach complaints? could somone please let me know.
@fairycake4me in theory you would examine the genitalia, but in real life this never happens, unless the doctor believes that might be something wrong. There's a huge difference between literature and real life practice.
@TeslaDRay they'd mark you down in an OSCE though... if you didn't wash up and you said "i washed up at the end of the last station" XD (i'm being purposefully pedantic btw) ^^
This was a bad video, abdominal exam should be done IAPP - inspection, auscultation, percussion, palpation. After one palpates the abdomen, there can be abdominal sounds from the pushing.
Depends on your country kusuno. In Australia its IPPA. I thought it was really good. He talked to the patient the entire time and told him what he was going to do =) that's what you're meant to do in osces. Obviously he can't show every single detail in 5 minutes - but the way he went about it was good.
People who are asking why he didn't wear gloves - you don't wear gloves in a GIT exam unless you're touching their genitalia or doing a digital rectal exam!
typical english crap, a doctor in the uk does not even tell you whats wrong with you, they are so up their own arses and think they are doing us a favour. I pay near £150 a week ni for health care, it is cheaper for private in the US. Now3 please tell me, has anyone in the UK been examined like this ? I have 3 kids and 7 grandkids and never never have any of us been treated like this, trust me its shit, he will be the same
lol i'm suree he cleaned up before he got on camera. btw, the patient could have pulled his covers up a weee bit more, lol, but then again we're all adults.
That's a demo by someone who's been doing it for years. It's not very thorough or textbook if you are learning for an OSCE. Macleod's is a more OSCE friendly if that's what you're after. It's strange that they auscultate after palpation - we were taught auscultate first on the abdomen to avoid listening to sounds caused by deep palpation.
Does the doctor probes also the patient's appendix? It seems to me that he is palpating very strongly the right side of patient's abdomen more or less in corrspondence with his vermiform appendix: is it normal to control appendix also in old patients or is it important only when patients are less of 40 years old?
Really good and istructive vid!! I'm a medicine student from Italy, are somewhere other available videos (like ENT exam, thorax exam, genitalia exam) from this series?
usually when a patient has ascites, the sides of the abdomen may sound dull on percussion, but upon rolling over, the fluid if present will shift to the front of the abdomen, and the sides of the abdomen will now sound resonant on percussion
3:24 I LOVE THIS PART SOO MUCH , I LOVE IT orgasm orgasm orgasm orgasm SOO MUCHO

not very thorough examination, it seems.
the doctor doesn't use a light to examine the patients mouth, for instance.
also uncommon order to palpate before auscultating the patients abdomen.
it's nicer to let the patient lift up his gown himself

is there a way they can put up the video that continues...the one examining his rectal/rectum? this would really help for my exam.

i think the doctor says at the end that he wouldn't put the patient through that on camera!
