It's not really a surprise; the guy isn't an architect - he has no idea what he's doing - he's an 'artist' who won the turner prize which awards conceptual ugly bullshit. It looks misshapen and unaesthetic - it's not symmetrical, it looks like it's falling apart; something you'd expect to see at Chessington, not as a monument everybody has to look at.

I think I might actually like it. Here's the thing - It's different. I think it will be a good thing for people who are visiting to say 'What the hell is that?' - they 'll remember it, instead of what, some boring tower. It looks different depending on where you're viewing it from. It looks a little scary and unstable - just as the architect meant it too. Think of the Eiffel Tower and the Wonder Wheel. Neither were supposed to stay, but now they are fixtures of their respective Cities.

@maosef I was refering to your comment regarding London 2012 as a whole. Yes, this tower's a bit odd but it's by no means horrendous. Its shape is unique- and perhaps could look stunning if it wasn't such a stupid colour. You can judge this tower because your looking at a mock-up of it...but you can't mock-up two weeks of history that will occur in a couple of years time. We've no idea how the entire event could pan out...so don't judge yet.

well, the shape is not beautiful, which is a surprise cause normally I love Anish Kapoors work, and the wire frame style - is like so 19thcentury..! can't we afford to cover it in something? its a mess. such a shame when Britain had such a good pavilion at the shanghai expo. All the talk is about making money from it - they should concentrate on making something outstanding and then money will flow. sadly I fear it will be an embarrassment. please reconsider before its too late.

@eirpod no one liked the famous pieces of architecture today when they were first made, as with most art. people hated the Eiffel Tower and said it was a hideous metal beast. people hated the Louvre, and said the style totally clashed with the nearby architecture. i think this is dynamic and very nice
