I've always preferred the Sha Na Na version much more than the original. Too bad it's so hard to find. ...But now I've found it! Thanks for posting. Hope WMG doesn't kick it.
Great rendition of this song! Scott Powell was (is) awesome. Rich Joffee was the lead singer on "Shake, Rattle & Roll" as well. These guys were the greatest show on earth in the early days....before the TV show.
@12161euclid Its not rap music thats killing harmony and melody its pop music.. im a teen and i enjoy rap but i love singing in choir too but i just cant stand pop music anymore its just getting to electronic for me
@SpeciallyToasty the fact that you sought out this song tells me you do appreciate the wonderful sounds the human voice can make. it is frustrating that a lot of young people would rather listen to a couple of guys shouting into a microphone in the same monotone than hear two people singing in harmony. i agree top 40 pop music has gone way too electronic. though she's not my particular cup of tea, people like adele seem to be bringing the voice back to the forefront of music. keep singing toasty!
I bought their first album in 1969. This has the picture of The Fillmore on the cover and with them all posing in a line. On the reverse of the cover are the song details and who sings lead. This is also the only time I can think of that Rich Joffe sings a lead on any song---"Come go with me".
PS--Thanks for posting the Sha Na Na songs etc. Brings back many happy memories. I've been a fan since my early teens---40yrs ago !!!
He sang this song on their first album and in their early shows. When I saw them in Newcastle in the 70's he sang it then but I notice Denny sang it in their TV show.
The 50'a revival went on all during my elementary years ,it made a hard lasting impression on me,love doowap.
