  • Reminds me of Wynton

  • nice man I play in a Reggaeband and play the trumpet -peaceandlove

  • Loved it, really great solo, thanks. I'm an old guy trumpet student. I love the trumpet sound. I'll listen and try to imitate some of your moves. Great playing, a real turn on.

    Thanks.

  • you sound amazing, but sometimes you need to think about what you're playing because i don't think it matched the chord progression of the song. but anyways you sounded great.

  • are you trying to become a teacher?

  • @kyle3hds Actually, I'm starting the Master's program in Computer Science at the University of Michigan in the fall.

  • I am enjoying this for the recording quality as much as for the tight interaction and good sound of the players.

  • man mastering the trumpet is the hardest skill out of all instruments, i have alot of respect for trumpet players

  • @voodoochild85858 tubas work harder too sound good. trust me.

  • the trumpet looks alot like wynton marsalis's

  • were can i get this?

  • hey man , you're realli amazing , i showed this video for my musician teacher and and he shaw to everyone in our class.....everyone liked too much ...

sorry by my english , i'm brazilian

  • So ... I'll be honest and say I don't hear it ... I don't hear how this follows the chords ... I don't hear how the ideas really follow one another ... I don't ... hear it really resolve to anything

  • mannnn dont be a square,,,,dats jazzzzzzz,,,

  • it's obviously an improv solo.

  • Hey dude, pretty good! Liked your play!

  • If it sounds like jazz,it is jazz, and it sounds like jazz to me.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • take bigger breaths and put some more air through the horn man!

  • Nice!

  • What year is this guy in now?

  • I graduated in '08.

  • you sound great man

  • Thanks for the support!

  • killin man! I love how musical you're playing, not just blowing us away with licks. Keep it up!

  • Sounds great, love it.

  • this sounds like a kind of solo freddie hubbard would play. nice style

  • Nice playing...this cat is either going or went to Oberlin, and I am about 15 minutes away...I gotta check him out!

  • I graduated from Oberlin last May but I'm still living here. I'm playing at the Feve most Sundays. Not this weekend or the next, though, because I'll be on tour with Rafiq Bhatia.

  • i recently got a yamaha xeno- its absolutely amazing

  • truth in music says...Excellent!

  • Pretty dam good! like the bit at about 1:50 with the drums :D

  • 2:20 was sick...

  • :57 was sick

  • lol!

  • hi...i play cornet and am looking to upgrade to trumpet - any sugestions(i'm waiting for my grade 5 results)?

  • if your looking for a b flat trumpet then try to stay away from bach. there good at first but you can get way better tone from many other brands.

  • go find a trumpet teacher at a university or something- he'll tell you what you need.

  • getzen is always good, nice tone, affordable, and just good all around

  • very nice rythmn

  • wow u are giong to be a great jazz player that sounded like improve and it was pretty good keep up the good work:-)

  • your play belong to of the most great trumpet players, you've got something... I think

  • great communication by the rhythm

  • Very nice, i might start playin trumpet next year.I like it cause it has a brilliant sound, and i think it is like the base of jazz music.

  • it takes a hell of a lot of practicing even to get to a high school level, let alone professional.

  • Nice solo, man!

  • That's the second longest solo I've ever heard.

  • haha

    sounds like improv.

    very nice

  • i agree. improv should sound as if it was written on paper and vice versa for jazz. very nice indeed.

  • very nice i must say

  • AWESOME!!

  • Nice man - whats the music you make it up or what

  • Very Nice...i mean people generally post here to be criticized, but he does a great job. Just remember that you have more than one octave on your trumpet

  • Nah, he's got that new Monette uni-octave horn.

  • It amazes me that when you have a trumpet player apparently at your stage of playing and people want to be a critic on how well you perform...I think you're past that...you have your own style and it sounds great...I think you're past that "you need to do this" or "that" stage...you worked it with your style and it sounded great...more videos please. I wonder how many times Dizzy was told not to puff out his cheeks????? LOL.

  • Do some tone studies and don't try to play as many notes as you can as fast as you can. playing high is nice but if you don't have it then don't play it. You sound like you have some theory background so nice job on that. i hope i helped.

  • It's good, but your tone sounds kind of pinched off. Try opening up your emberature a little bit.

  • how can you open up your embechure when you're going up triple staffs

  • Practice.

  • perfect...

  • wow i wonder what mouthpiece he's using

  • In this clip I'm playing on the Taylor mouthpiece that came with the horn. It's supposed to be about a Bach 3C.

  • that is some sly dog blues/jazz there, i like it

  • nice :)

  • cool sound

  • i like the note selection, building the solo melodically might be easier than having to wail for some musical excitement

  • dude u look like u r suffering big time... but some musical- melodic "ideas" u played were interesting

  • VERY nice!

  • AWESOME!

  • The sound is very thin and not supported. No melodic momentum, more like he was just placing a bunch of random licks and intervals. Over all not bad, but this cat probably could sound better if he wasn;t so scattered brain in his approach!

  • is that not what jazz is???

  • Oh, so tell us, how do you approach an improv session?

  • With confidence and a deep breath. Playing fast isn't necessary either.

  • His sound is fine man. He is playing jazz, not Haydn. His sound is jazzy and not symphonic. That is alright.

  • I likey. I wish i had the embouchure to play trumpet.

Stuck with the sackbut forever more.

  • You d'ont need to play crazy high notes to sound good, he forces way too much instead of doing stuff that feels good. he should definitly add some melody to that. apart from that, it's pretty good

  • Oberlin... more musical talent there than all the states put together

  • reminds me off spectrum by billy cobham

  • a miles davis in the making, bravo

  • pretty damn good!

  • very nice

  • holy PRO well pretty good

  • it was good something was missing

  • nice high notes, u didnt lose tune and they sounded cool

  • hey man, one way to work on restraint, is practicing without hold the horn...let it rest on your pinky and thumb...everytime u apply pressure it will slide forward...eventually you'll get used to no pressure and have more control of everything...

  • wow i think ill use that advice

  • dont ram the horn against your face and dont close off youd make it higher than that note.

  • nice job dude

  • Eh ya, i would say you need to add some more emotion to it, I'm just not feeling the blues, it sounds more like you're just trying to show off than actually play, but ya it is good playing otherwise

  • agreed. it seemed life less. the groove didn't seem to go with his playing at all...

  • True, it kinda sounded like he was picking random riffs and playing them rather then feeling the tune and following somewhat of a melody. At the beginning of the solo I saw some of the melody, but later on it was gone.

  • If you guys are interested in hearing the solo in the context of the melody, you can check out the full recording at millertinkerhess dot com slash music dot html.

  • what ev. i liked it!

  • pretty amazing homie

  • that was great playing

  • Nice, dude...if there's on instrument I'd like to play, it's trumpet.

  • @AreYouMyMommy Then get a trumpet :). I'm not joking. If you'd like to play then the only thing to do is go get one. Pick up a second hand student horn on ebay and a practice mute so you don't kill the family/neighbours and go for it. Trumpet isn't too hard to play (hard to play WELL but not hard to play).

Worst case is you'll get your money back on ebay because trumpets don't really devalue much on their second hand prices.

Go on, you know you want to and at least you can say you tried

  • nice but get a more round tone

  • Song goes nowhere....hardly any dynamics could be discerned. Your putting me to sleep bro. Has range but not very powerful..I want to hear clarity in ALL ranges.

  • three words, IMPROVE UR TONE!!!!

  • Nice man, some small flubs here and there but all in all I liked it

  • I like the Dizzy lick

  • I just find the sound of this instrument AMAZING!

  • u have a bach Stradivarius? wow, u are terrific!

  • Maybe in a couple year's you can come join Ringling brother's with us you should Try out you would probbally make it u got skill

  • hey that's very good

  • this is very nice.

  • The horn is actually a Taylor. I'm back to using my Bach Strad now.

  • is that a monette...doesn't look like one from this angle...looks like taylor or harrelson. but i'm all about brilliance...i have a natural dark sound anyway. keep playing

  • Nice blasphemy! Holy Monette, I'll have to remember that one.

Awesome solo mate, I'm just learning to improvise so mucho respecto!

  • holy Monette? Gotta admit I'm jealous of the horn.

  • nice man keep up the amazing work!

  • omg, its my dream to be able to play that well...

  • wicked awsome i really liked it.i play the trumpet but not nearly as good.i wish i could play that good

  • cool

  • cool :x

  • You play very well

  • Wait I know thats not at the cat and the cream in Oberlin....Wow...

  • This is with the small ensemble I played with last semester, at our end-of-the-semester recital.

  • Nice man, great range and phrasing. Interesting take on the chord changes as well. What recital was this for?
