I went there for a class trip and it was so cool :D in the gift shop they sold replicas of the soap bars the inmates used (: it was like $3 and so tiny and smelled unpleasant but it was cool :)

My grandpa used to live there. He was born there and lived there until he was like 18 or something and got married and left. He has taken me there many times( he has free tickets but its nit like e wants to go all the time because he lived there forever) His dad was a guard but he was also around when the needed fixing things. And yes the criminals did bake there food and wash there clothes…

They can't open alcatraz...Nearly every inmate who went there escaped. It was one of the easiest places to escape from.

Just took the Alcatraz tour. It's awsome and it's worth seeing. I have always been facinated with this prison from the movie, Escape from Alcatraz. The boat ride over the San Fransico Bay itself is great. Alcatraz is huge. Seeing the living quarters of the guards and their families, the cells and the audio tour is worth it. And there is more to see....
