  • GET A JOB YOU TWAT!

  • Unfortunately voices such as this will be used by the establishment as excuses for the decisions they make.

Politicians see this video and say: "The people have spoken", and slap some extra taxes on flights, and force eveyone into buses. I hate buses. While i love my bike, i don't need to be scared onto it by wacky climate alarmists. They're the ones who should be on their bikes.

  • By the time the 3rd runway is completed greener and quieter engines are going to be implemented. The industry overall is fully aware of their responsibility towards climate change and is pretty much geared towards being greener all the time, however as certification takes such a long time the advancements aren't going to come as soon as hoped. Expecting domestic flights to be banned without a highspeed train service in place that rivals speed and convenience it ain't gonna happen, end of...

  • Right mate, bro, homeslice, chief. I'm studying Aerospace Engineering at Sheffield University, where you graduated from recently and by the sounds of it and had you just gone in and chatted to the faculty (one of the highest rated in the country!) they would have given you some information on this subject and you would have a different view on the whole subject.

For a start the industry accounts for 5% of all emissions globally, which is stated in the Kyoto Protocol....

  • @mosley666 True, but that's 5% of current emissions - remember we are committed to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050. If aviation expansion continues as now, it will account for over 70% of our total carbon budget by that time - that's why the Committee on Climate Change told the govt on Dec 9th that plans to expand regional airports around the UK have to be abandoned.

  • Scientists already know what politicians have been scared to voice in public. Only strict controls to the earth's population will reduce CO2 emissions. Reports say that such an action is more effective at reducing greenhouse gases than any technology that exists today. Simply put, if there's less people arouind then there's less need for energy consumption, less consumer goods needed and less living space. Trouble is all the religious leaders would all kick up about that.

  • Why is it that as soon as someone graduates from uni, they think they have all the answers and try to change the world?

There is little point in trying to change the minds of us in the UK, Europe and the USA when most of the worst polluting countries are either third world nations or China. They continue to breed like rabbits and all want their new cars, fridge-freezers and ipods. I've yet to see a train or bus that can take me to New Zealand.

  • What a twerp! He should go over to China where their airline expansion is massive, but they have the right attitude and would lock him up for 20 years. How can anyone survive on being a "cycle instructor" I think I can hear the roar of his parents volvo in the background.

  • Wow - loud, biggotted and proud, with a dose of fasism thrown in for good measure. Mummy must be ecstatic...

  • My point exactly, well said.

As for these so called 'non-essential flights', perhaps linked with population growth and the ever-increasing speed of modern day lifestyle?

Measured approach indeed, but when you look at economies of scale, the UK is far shorter than the issues of China and America, who couldn't give 3 shits for this guys opinion, let alone even listening for a moment to what he has to say.

  • Don't fret, there are plenty of imbeciles like this guy in America.

  • Aviation does contribute. But it is also grossly scapegoated. Cars pollute waaaaaaay more but no on really has a go at car drivers. Especially the ones who drive around in their huge unneccesary 4x4's! Panes are far more efficient that cars per passenger per kilomiter anyway. In any case, people would take 'Plane Stupid' far more seriously if they didn't resort to the means that they do...invading airports and common assault...lightweight shit! Debate with words...it's far more effective!

  • "Debate with words...it's far more effective! "

... except the only reason this has become a public issue at all is because of high profile actions like the ones PS have been taking. Of course these crucial decisions must be decided by reason and debate, but without direct actions they'd never get on to the agenda in the first place...

  • maybe so...but as far as I'm aware, they haven't even tried! They seem to be involved in nothing but sensationalist acts with very little verbal reasoning or even any proper justification for their actions. Except for obsolete and inaccurate statistics.

  • Unnecessary 4x4's? This winter, my unnecessary four wheel drive car pulled out a bunch of hapless two wheel drive car owners from deep snow after they completely mis-read the conditions. I don't use my vehicle to drive to the shops - I drive it A) because we still have freedom of choice B)I need to because you try getting through flooded roads with a car...

  • @TheScorpionSquad Then by definition your 4x4 is not unnecessary. If you lived in a city and only used it to go supermarket shopping or on the school run, then it would be.

Come on, this is pretty straightforward. Lots of people using 2 tonne gas-guzzlers round town is the problem, not farmers, rescue services or anyone who really needs one. The problem is, everybody seems to think that it's an essential piece of kit, when most of the time its just a fashion statement.

  • Some good points but my car is definately not a fashion accessory. It's mechanically sound but ugly as sin. When you live miles away from the nearest road, a small engined Euro-box just doesn't make it. And I'd rather pull out my own finger nails than live in a town or city. I'd sooner have to travel to get to the shops than live in a noisy polluted crime ridden city where the streets are infested with hoddie wearing yobs.

  • whoee - looks like we've got ourselves a climate change denying troll - don't see many of them around these days...

  • ... he's quite cute, isn't he, with his little red eyeballs and strangely twisted expression, bless him.

They used to be considered dangerous, but since their habitat has almost totally disappeared (Exxon funded 'research' institutes) they've gone into a decline and are becoming increasingly rare.

So make the most of this opportunity folks, to question a genuine one - while there's still time!

  • So why dont YOU take your head out of the sand from the early 1990s when climate change was barely discovered, and actually back your agrument up with scientific evidence which is up-to-date and not from bias sources! "thumbs up"

  • get a grip you hippy. "scrap the policy of airport expansion" LMFAO. Everyone knows that that will NEVER happen. At the end of the day, Greenpeace and all those hippy groups will lose. In the extremely unlikely event of the 3rd runway at heathrow being scrapped happens, then plans, already announced by party oppositions in parliament, plan to build a COMPLETELY NEW AIRPORT in the Thames estuary, built on reclaimed land similar to that of Hong Kong Intl Airport.

  • Yep, massive aviation expansion is utterley essential. Given that the number of passengers using UK airports is now declining and airlines are declaring huge losses, and the climate change implications of pumping ever more CO2 above 30,000 ft are likely to be very serious - there can only be one political solution: ignore the evidence, stick your head in the sand and pretend you can carry on with 'business as usual'. Classic stupidity!

  • what evidence? you obviously dont know that there is very little human induced global warming - infact, it is only a natural phenonemon and occurs at regular intervals throughout geological history, due to the end of ice ages and more ingestion of greenhouse gases from volcanoes etc.

This natural cause outweighs human induced greenhouse emmissions a million-fold, and this can be seen at the ice caps, which holds key information of the earth historic climate.

  • right - now you've made your position clear, go and play in the traffic please...

  • Said this before, sheffield university graduate now......cycle instructer it says it all.......mother must be proud

  • hey gegs - bet your mother's depressed she gave birth to such a smug (and repetetive) twat...

  • smug maybe....cycle instructor no, i also work in places where cars and trucks pump out what you wouldn't believe, if Myles or paddy or whatever his name is parents have no money..he is not surviving on an Cycle instructors wages, I wonder who is paying

  • Fucking stay on earth the human race has reached the stage where it will be able to capitalize on other planets so who gives a shit about this one? its gonna run out of resources soon anyway

  • "the human race has reached the stage where it will be able to capitalize on other planets"

er, not in your lifetime, matey.

  • Yeah i know i overeacted but i just dont see the point in protesting, pollution is always going to happen and theirs nothing civilians can do about it

  • Sure Pienax, as long as we are not able to understand our responsabilities of course we won't. But go ahead, keep thinking that way, I'll be on the other way, trying to do something about it.

  • China you try shut down any of theirs without the government taken action youll get shot or put in prison so either way were screwed some countrys dont appreciate people trying to stop them from thriving

  • this is what happens when children are made to watch newsround and be brain washed through eco-school programmes. instead of children growing up into creative, innovative, talented engineers, they are now turning into lazy, protesting eco-mentalists.

If the world is one day as doomed as the eco-beards tell us, then it will be engineering that will save the day, not environmentalists.

  • lmao so true - as i have said on other discussions, there is plenty of evidence to show that climate change is not human induced WHATSOEVER

  • "perhaps paddy you could start to get yourself uptodate with whats happenning in uk avaition"

er yes - except that this video's been up for over a year, moron...

  • Wheres the hot girls, plane posh and hot and crazy!

  • I'd really like to know how many members of plane stupid have travelled on gap years, prior to undertaking their university degrees...

they look like the kind of people who would bore you silly talking about their "experiences" with the Ndelbe people in a common room...

  • And that free and fair comment is just bloody cheek! How is it fair that people who have saved, maybe for years, to fly out from Stansted yesterday had their holiday ruined for you guys. If that were me, I'd be suing you to recover any costs on my part! Living up to your name at least though!

  • This is just sensationalism...If you guys really cared about climate change, youd be standing outside the Ford factory or having a go at people who use cars for a journey that could be taken on public transport. Aviation is a relitavely insignificant contributor to global warming. I suspect all you guy care about is column inches.

  • jellicoe7 - your comment has been deleted because, while free and fair comment is welcome here - incitements to violence are not.

  • l notice the Plane Stupid website has no 'comments' feature ... wonder why?

  • lol

  • lol, after seeing what happened today with that stupid bitch, i was going to comment...but as you correctly stated - there isnt one LOL

  • Don't you just love these wannabee academics ! This guy has no experience of the real world, yer thinks he is competent to make decisions on major policy issues. Most likely he will rapidly progress into the ranks of New Labour and actually get to fu^k things up for real !

  • I found out about this organization today, researched them and I feel I must comment or I'll explode.

On your site you have 10 reasons which can easily be reduced to 3 - Pollution, expansion and economical. My biggest issue is economy, we're in the EU, we have lots of multinational companies, the business men and women NEED air travel in order to go to meetings and generally organize things, therefore without air travel the economy would crumble.

I'm liberal, but this is just ridiculous.

  • "I'm liberal, but this is just ridiculous"

... er, that would be an economic rather than social liberal, by the sound of it.

"business men and women NEED air travel in order to go to meetings"

Hmmm - did you notice how the number of frequent business flyers plummeted after 9/11 by the way? Suddenly that vital trip seemed slightly less essential...

Nobody is advocating that flying should stop altogether, just that we cut out the non-essentials. Ever heard of the video conference?

  • Yes, but you do not need to fly to most places in the EU, and advances in video conferencing mean that in many cases it is entirely unnecessary for workers to travel on airlines. Also it is not necessary flights that are the principle and most urgent problem-it is short haul flights to [places like Scotland which are entirely unnecessary and are a ecological nightmare.

  • I love these people. I mean what do they want us living in caves again? Seriosly I listened to one of these idiots at the protest at the airport today and she went "oh everyone can stop using planes for shorthaul flights" ok lady and if that makes sense how many people per flight suddenly on the cars driving lol. Duh! They dont really think they're plans out do they.

  • Driving is still less polluting than air travel and many people wouldn't choose to drive when rail and coach are still (marginally) cheaper. Also, they aren't advocating driving cars instead - trains, buses and ferries are all viable options and would be just as attractive if less money were put into aviation expansion and more into the development of more economic forms of mass transport. Do your research and stop bitching.

  • @sorrelish go fuck a tree you freak

  • Just a reminder of what is or isn't acceptable comment on this site. Fair or personal comment is fine - have your say. Offering money to assissinate a named person is most definitely NOT. Yes this means you ba2775, and yes you have been banned and had your comments removed.

  • Sheffield Graduate now cycle instructor !!! what more do you have to say...

  • hahahah

  • Would it be inappropriate for me to say that this guy is totally adorable? :->

  • Hippy tosser!

  • these terrorists should not be climbing on our monuments or planes, our country is a target from many why dont you show how poor our security is and give them a few ideas....

    (tw@ts)

  • They are hardly terrorists. Terrorism denotes violence and some degree of serious threat, whereas this is just peaceful protest, albeit in rather more forceful terms. The security threat is a valid point, but I doubt they are revealing anything any self respecting terrorist would not already know or be able to discover.

  • madness lol 8 years who pulled that out their ass. what happens in 8 years ?? does the world end

  • problem with this video is.. a young girl like myself can't rly concentrate on what the guy's saying because she will be distracted by his attractiveness... sorry just having a bit of trouble with that..

  • Get active in Greenpeace, spend some time with him !!!

  • haha good idea!!

  • my bad, didnt know this was bout aviation. plane stupid** plaane stupid** lol

  • Question: How come one of the original Greenpeace Founders has denouced AGW as a scam? And why have so many of the scientists, originally associated with the UN's IPCC report, declared they never sanctioned the report at all?

  • That'd be Patrick Moore. He's a complicated (some would say corrupted)character who may not even have been a Greenpeace founder member. Try looking him up on Wikipedia for a reasonably balanced biog.

  • Science is never about certainty, only probability. As such the fact that over 90% of the scientists involved in the IPCC have reached some sort of agreement on climate change is significant. Of course they could be wrong - we all hope that they are. But I for one would rather adopt the precautionary principle about something as potentially disastrous as global warming, wouldn't you?

  • PLAIN* stupid. PLAIN* stupid

  • hoho - a double reverse pun. Very impressive - well worth the hours you spent dreaming it up.

  • Why can't Greenpeace campaign at the wind farm planning meetings where they can do some real good in this country? Everyone and their dog are objecting but no Greenpeace their to remind the councillors that the planet is heading down the pan if they don't approve. Come on Greenpeace prioritise it is not all about television ratings and airports. Get onboard at the planning stage. Support wind-farms and save the planet.

  • Greenpeace has supported many key planning applications, including North Hoyle and Scarweather Sands. Obviously we don't have the resources to support them all, but we list each one and give advice about how you can support them on our Yes2wind website (run jointly with FOE and WWF).

  • Understand you can't be everywhere and I will check out the resource given but I still believe if you focused on the obtainable and diverted more resource to application support, more windfarms could be achieved in a shorter time-frame.
