Yay walking trashcan! Go small first then make it bigger how are you going to make a vehicle that size when they can barely make a 3 foot tall 200lb bot-boy walk up stairs. And one so stiff with limited movement, a stupid waste of money. They haven't even developed powering systems for such complex mechanisms they are just slapping an engine(or battery) on a box and attaching the drive train(or battery powered mechanism) to gear system. An insult to militant engineering but a very cool project.*
You make some valid points, but hey: when it comes to making walking/rolling/sliding mechs like this one, the developers have to try & start somewhere, right?
@MEPHISTOPHELESw Make a man fit in a 3 foot tall bot-boy and then you have a point. I think the engineers and investors in that project value their money and time enough to know what they are getting into.
@MEPHISTOPHELESw This isnt military any thing. It was not meant to be. They are using pneumatic cannons to shoot at a picture of a "Space Invader" look alike cut out for god sake. Guess you had nothing better to do than rip on people who have talent and imagination eh? Have you ever built any thing? Ever have an original thought of your own? " engine(or battery) on a box and attaching the drive train(or battery powered mechanism) to gear system" WOW you must be an engineer. ;oP
Still not 'walking' its rolling on wheels. When it can pick its feet up off the ground and step OVER things, then its a walker. if its concrete only it loses its purpose.
The thing is run with gasoline? Not very efficient. The arms are simple mechanics and it's safe to assume that the driver would really feel the punch of recoil if a real weapon were mounted onto it.
...but hey, it's a start! Equip this thing with an improved hydrogen fuel cell, armor, and an improved bipedal trained system and you got yourself a walking terror. Right now, a simple tank or even a car is more efficient but give this thing 50+ years and you might just see real life Mech one day.
@VideoQuestEx My main point is this is pretty much just a tall tank. If they used both sets of treads under the feet at the same time, it'd probably move smoother. It doesn't walk, so the fact that it's bi-pedal is unnecessary.
To clearify my previous point, I personally think that the creators weren't trying to make a phyiscally "practical" tank, which will ever get used in any war.
Their inspiration most likely came from Anime & Manga, so they were seeing if they could just simply make standing vechicle, just for the sake of making one.
Maybe it was for the "coolness" factor. People are more likely to look as a "Standing Tank" than a more traditional one.
@VideoQuestEx I agree, it does look cool. And Standing Tank would be a more accurate name than Land Walker. A large Bi-Pedal Mech would never be practical, and could only be cool.
Yeah, I heard the term "Standing Tank" used in some older anime, and or video game. That name would make more sense, in this case, I suppose.
I guess since the creators of this machine added "legs," they figured the name "Land Walker" would be more appropriate.
Of course, this Land Walker rolls on wheels under each foot: it doesn't really "walk" like a real person, or like a mech in anime. But, personally, I don't mind that fact as much as others.
If the LandWalker gets modified & improved, maybe it could have other more fun aplications, like in the field of entertainment, similar to "Robosauraus" or something.
Yup: if LandWalker does get upgraded with any real military applications, it would be more stream-lined, faster, much more mobile, and probably armed to the teeth with who-knows-what type of weapons.
for these to ever be useful in real war, it would have to be smaller, stealth, and as agile as a human [or better ;) ] but don't think it isn't coming... could totally imagine these becoming a merger between elite infantry and light armour. Give it 20 years, maybe less.
it looks pushable and fragile, i hope it has strong metal and weighs hundreds of pounds, and they really need to make it walk fast(is this a prototype or a toy?:P)
This 'Land Walker' was originally made by a private individual/company.
I'm not sure what they originally had in mind when they first choose to design & create this machine, but I would say it might have been partly inspired by mecha from anime and other such sci-fi vehicles.
No way it was going to be perfect on the first try.
@VideoQuestEx id say the hardest part was making this, the improvements should come easily.the movement upgrade will be difficult tho because right now bi pedal anythings are slow as crap unless its a suit bi pedal.what wouldd they do?upgrade hydraulics in the legs to make the walking motions faster? surely it wouldnt be good for balance tho.id say saw the torso off and glue it on a fast moving taking, mobility solved. lol would be like the machine in Terminator.the one in the future "flashback
I think this Land-Walker does actually have wheels under the feet.
Other people have pointed out that this machine does not actually lift up it's legs like a person when it 'walks'; it sort of slide-walks forward, well, at least it was in the two videos I uploaded.

The problem is it will still lose to tanks and RPG. LOL
Bipedal design only works if it offer the same amount of mobility as a person if not more. Other wise it is a walking target.

I honestly don't know.
Check the Text Information in the Description Box, underneath/next to this video. I post some Web-Links in there.
Also, check Wiki-Pedia, or Google to see what info you can come up with.

Tanks already exist. They have for many decades now.
The makers of Land Walker were clearly going for more imaginative, creativity, more than any practical application, when they made this machine.

joemcbobinite 1 year ago
@joemcbobinite They should add wheels on the "feet". A wheel system that can be used when you want to. If you don't want just press a button.
It would be like a roller blader, but the problem is the balance so when it skates they need to lower the torso a bit so it's gravity center is down.
And for weapons just add stuff to destroy armored units. Anti-Tank Rocket Launchers and Turrets. Maybe some Anti-Air Missile Launcher too.
