When did the death star plans turn into the force?
I do agree, there are a lot of similarities, but he was fifteen when he started writing and star wars and lord of the rings greatly influenced him. I don't know if you have read the book, but if you haven't, then you cant judge the book at all. I love the books, but the movie is the biggest piece of shit since sliced bread. (i hate bread)
the story of star wars hasnt been created from scratch, there are hundreds of stories, thousands of years old with the same story structure, its just like religion, hundreds of religions have the same story structure
star wars is just a particularly successful and well known version/adaptation of that story of our generation
saying they have been ripped of is like saying a song rips off another song because it too has a verse and a chorus, its structure can be found in hundreds of examples
Here's the difference though. That is a more apt comparison for stories like STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS, where they share certain classic themes and idea but have stories that diverge in a lot of ways.
ERAGON almost beat for beat follows the plot of A NEW HOPE. The book has a bit more in between events that makes it a bit different, but when you look at the main/pivotal events than it becomes a bit more obvious. It was still a fun read, but I hesitate to not call it a rip off
star wars is a movie ... eragon is a fantasy novel, just because somebody thought they could make a sucky movie out of it you can't compare it like this
neither a homage or stealing…..the story may have started out like that (yes, i admit the similarities are rather in your face to be just coincidences) but if you are going to talk about the book, then the story is almost NOTHING like star wars with the exception that it is good vs evil.
if you are comparing star wars to the movie eragon however i agree it will be like a rip off from star wars.
SPOILER ALERT
the MAJOR differences
- eragon (in the books) is suppose to have brown hair not blonde
- brom aka *obi wan kenobi* ends up benig eragons dad.
just to name a couple of many differences.
so if you are comparing the movies ONLY, then don’t bring in the books which (after reading all) are very different from star wars (after being watched)
..... i thought i was a nerd for knowing all the words to all the star-wars movies >.> get a life

You realize Eragon is based off a book, correct?
And Star Wars is basically a "rip-off" of everything, or the way I look at it, a tribute to storytelling.
