I know! It's so stupid... I got so many replies for my last comment that were like... "GAY GAY GAY YOU GAYS CAN'T SAY THAT YOU HATE OTHERS BECAUSE GAYS SAY THEY DON'T HATE". uhm... about that... I just said I hate it when people hate gays. But, I think what really got them was that I said I love God... and I'm bisexual. :-p
Let me tell you something, Christians and churches have never been more discriminated than those "homies", as you so like to call them. I am a strong and proud Christian. But I must have read the wrong, Bible. Because I thought God said to, "Love thy neighbor". And what does the Constitution of the United States of America say in Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment? Read the information under, "more info". The definition of marriage changes. It used to only be allowed for white people.
well even slaves who were only property back in the day were able to "Jump the broom" and be married even though it didn't mean anything to the slave master but it was still between 1 man and 1 woman. I'm not hating on this, I really am Not I Myself Am Asexual so..It doesn't matter to me either way how marriage goes.
You're not getting the point. I'm not talking about African Americans or anything in particular. I mentioned them because their youth is by far the most generally against homosexuality and gay marriage. Which brings me to my point, not so long ago, people could only marry inside their race. The issue NOW is man/woman so saying, "it was still between 1 man and 1 woman" is irrelevant. It used to be between the same race, as well. So it's a double standard and it's a hypocrisy.
God is supposed to love everyone, all his children. At least that's what I hear every time I attend church. I never knew this didn't include the LGBT community. I must misinterpreted the line, "Love thy neighbor". Thanks for enlightening me, really.
P.S. If FinalJusticeMovement knew ANYTHING about MLK, he would be able to understand that you can't just apply his message to whatever it is convenient to you... You are either an individual smart enough to understand that we all deserve the same rights no matter what or you are just a hypocrite demanding the tolerance you are not willing to give. Did that make sense? I bet it didn't, you better learn Spanish soon Curt cause my English doesn't seem to be improving :[
This is funny (not that there is anything funny about the subject) but a couple of days ago I was talking about this with a work associate and we ended up talking about MLK... It's really hard to explain my thoughts about it (this is one of those moments when I hate having such a crappy English, most of the time is cute but then there are important matters I would like to talk about and I just have to just be silent)... VERY nice work in this video, 5'd and saved...
we are not implying that the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a homosexual, or that his fight was for the institutionalization of homosexuality.
It is amazing how homosexuals and homosexualists in the rally against Prop 8 cry foul against religion, and yet dare to use MLK (who WAS RELIGIOUS) as a scapegoat to icon their cause.
The whole thing is a joke and an insult to MLK's message, legacy, and honor.
what the fuck do you know what we could care less about? are you us? 1 person cant speak as a whole for a group. there are homosexuals who are black. thats like saying we could care less if women were still slaves to men. or that we could care less if we hadnt killed hitler. stupid bigot.
I think it's time that church groups that get involved in politics like they did on this civil rights issue, need to have there tax exempt status pulled right out from underneath them! That should help them to separate church and state...ha!
There's a push to strip the mormon church of that status - it began almost immediately after 8 passed.
I don't see much good coming of it, actually, and I fear that if we do that we invite MORE oppressive involvement from the church. The separation is good for both sides, I would think.
Some people say "well yes we need to give "those gays" protection from violence against them, as no one deserves to be beat up, but giving them marriage rights is too much." I beg to differ. If you want to marry someone and you cannot, that is violence against your emotions. It is the same thing!
Oh, and the thing with the Mormons... the head of LDS publicly encouraged members to donate financially to the "yes" campaign, and as a result they wound up being one of the major contributors - many of whom don't even live in the state of California.
Exactly. That's one of the plaguing questions coming from outside (and from within) California - why were we voting on such things in the first place.
The religious right keep giving their pat answers but it doesn't really address the main problem, of course.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this get taken to court and overturned. That's how they roll in the 9th Circuit.
Either way, this won't be an overnight thing. The Emancipation Proclamation was written in 1863, and almost 150 years later, it can be argued that in some places, everyone's still not on equal footing.
We may never live to see the day, but you gotta start somewhere.
Right, and when you think that it took about 100 years after the abolition of slavery to get the Civil Rights Act passed, plus the fact that women still couldn't vote in every state until 1920, that we're this far along at this point is even pretty remarkable.
about 38 seconds into it there's a sign that says "Oppression is on not a family value" and my partner is in front of that one holding up a NO on Prop 8 sign. dark sunglasses. i'm actually in it to, but a bit to the left and not as noticeable, black cap and sunglasses.
Great video, I'm really glad people aren't rolling over simply because these stupid amendments passed. Here in Florida, our Prop 8 (Prop 2), pass with 62%. That's unreal, especially for a state that Obama carried.
If they ban gay marriage to protect the children and the sanctity of marriage, why is divorce still an option? Hypocrisy at its best I guess.
We will get there one day, Curt. Keep up the fight- I'm with ya :)
Thanks! And we'll get to Florida's prop 2 soon enough - it may come from the federal level, but that will get thrown out too.

no diana wants me to marry my mother. i want to marry your mother, er, i mean, you. wait, i can't marry al bundy. i'll marry jane wyman. you marry fernando lamas.
That was a great and touching video Curt. Sort of ironic bookending the vid with quotes by Martin Luther King when the African American community so overwhelmingly voted for Prop 8. Hopefully they will learn from their history and change course.
When searching for quotes relating to this, his were the ones that best hit the nail on the head. The man was simply ahead of his time.
One thing that came up in the speeches delivered at the rally I attended was how black gays and lesbians felt caught in the middle on this one because of those statistics. So many layers to this, it almost causes migraines.
Yeah! Wha Debstef said! He's a genius and a well thought out libertarian thinker! Why did'nt we think of it sooner. Church......state.......sepatate. Wow. Where have I heard that before?
Battim said very similar things in his vlog from last night (attached here as a response). Yeah, I think we really screwed ourselves collectively by letting the government get involved in marriages in the first place.
In fact, this whole mess has made me more curious to read up on the REAL history of marriage in the U.S. to see how the hell we got here in the first place.
MAN! WHY does nobody GET IT?!?? The federal, state and local governments should have nothing to do with this issue. It is soooooo stupid. Government should ONLY recognise civil unions, period. Why are you guys not protesting the separation of church and state by even calling it "marriage". Marriage, between any two people, is a cultural exchange and is therefore not anything the gov't should have any dealings with. We all fill out the same paperwork and stand in the same line.
I can't see it last for long.. Prop 8 will be reversed, when the lawmakers realise what they have done! It will take some time maybe, because some of them are obviously 'a bit dim'.. but it will be done, I'm sure!
Yep, me too. The big question I keep asking is how in blazes did this nonsense get on the ballot in the first place - makes me think nobody bothered to check the U.S. constitution before allowing it through.
Attended in the California state capitol in Sacramento yesterday. Very moving. Hopefully the general population is re-thinking the issue now that it is apparent that it is not going away. Great video, Curt!
That's fantastic, Brent - I searched the news online to see how many rallies there were but all I really found were TONS of clips here on YT. That alone tells me this was huge.
i already commented but you responded...and i live in USA, but in Oklahoma where the extreme religous people live.... there everywhere .... i am sure some churches here does the leg work to get people to hate homosexuals...... but i watch ya and enjoy watching ya.. so keep the videos coming lol!!!!
Oklahoma - well the good news (I trust) is that once California reverses this, it will set off a domino effect in other states (and there are states who do still have legalized same sex marriage, btw). One of the reasons the mormon church fought so hard against this here is because they KNOW California was going to be a touchstone in this fight.
The same thing happened with Jim Crow laws, as well as laws prohibiting people of different ethnicit backgrounds from marrying.
Damn Curt! you gave me goosebumps with this footage!! My favorite sign was the what the cluck? he's so right! chickens have more rights now, that is fucking insane!!
I support your right to protest an unfair prop., but when does it all end? If tomorrow Prop. 8 is overturned, then expect more protests the next day. Some issues will never be satisfactorily settled, look at Roe v Wade. I don't have the answer, just a meandering thought.
What needs to happen at this point is it needs to be shot down in the courts, as for the rest of the legal process we'd best consult legal experts - many of whom were vocalizing their negative opinion of the proposition before it was time to vote.
The bottom line (as I understand it) is that once it's established that this went against the 14th amendment, they won't even HAVE another chance to push something like this through.
Curt...over history have any of these get-togethers actually produced anything, or is it just a way of venting peacefully? I understand the cause, just wonder if there might be a better route to getting it solved.
Thank you for watching - and don't give up hope just yet. I don't know which country you're in, but at some point the tide is bound to turn in a lot of other places as well.
The UK, while still a long way to go (the evangelicals still crying against marriage), is definitely ahead of the US regarding this issue because they honour civil partnerships for everyone. In 2004 they passed the Civil Partnership Act which gives same-sex couples rights in areas such as employment and pensions, but the partnerships are not officially regarded as marriages.
If you go to ASDA (walmart) there is a section of greeting cards where you can buy 'Mr. & Mr.' and 'Mrs. and Mrs.' wedding cards and newspapers have a civil partnership announcement section.
What gets me is that the people favoring prop 8 actually made claims that those domestic partnership agreements carried the same rights as "marriage" - so either they're idiots or just liars (or both).
Looked like a pretty big turnout! I'm not sure if I quite got the "I Miss Tammy Fay" sign. Was Tammy Fay vocal about gay rights? Or maybe that was just a random general statement:)
Powerful - today was powerful for many, me included. I am proud to be an American with an open mind and the will to stand up for what I believe. Thanks for sharing Curt!
I think my favourite sign there was "domestic partnership is the back of the bus" so true. I hope everyone keeps this up and doesn't give up (that includes the hetros too they need to speak up as well) Great video Curt. :)
"Overturn prop 8 and your kids will still be straight." I like that one.

It's a good thing that guy was standing up front by the stage - that one was a must-see.

Very touching Curt.
It gives me hope that things will change for us all one day to see the growing support for true equality for all.

That was a great and touching video Curt. Sort of ironic bookending the vid with quotes by Martin Luther King when the African American community so overwhelmingly voted for Prop 8. Hopefully they will learn from their history and change course.
dl737 3 years ago
When searching for quotes relating to this, his were the ones that best hit the nail on the head. The man was simply ahead of his time.
One thing that came up in the speeches delivered at the rally I attended was how black gays and lesbians felt caught in the middle on this one because of those statistics. So many layers to this, it almost causes migraines.

This gave me chills; Beautiful video. Beautiful person.
Love you, Curt! :0)

Yeah! Wha Debstef said! He's a genius and a well thought out libertarian thinker! Why did'nt we think of it sooner. Church......state.......sepatate. Wow. Where have I heard that before?
debstef 3 years ago
Battim said very similar things in his vlog from last night (attached here as a response). Yeah, I think we really screwed ourselves collectively by letting the government get involved in marriages in the first place.
In fact, this whole mess has made me more curious to read up on the REAL history of marriage in the U.S. to see how the hell we got here in the first place.
OhCurt 3 years ago
We all fill out the same paperwork and stand in the same line.
debstef 3 years ago
this footage is amazing.. i wish i could have gone to the rally here in dallas.. but alas, school! :(

School is important, you can't brush that off.
Speaking of which, I need to get MY ass to school (but maybe just ONE more cup of coffee...)
See you in 4 more days, WOOT!!!
OhCurt 3 years ago
I can't see it last for long.. Prop 8 will be reversed, when the lawmakers realise what they have done! It will take some time maybe, because some of them are obviously 'a bit dim'.. but it will be done, I'm sure!
CurtisWildebeest 3 years ago
Yep, me too. The big question I keep asking is how in blazes did this nonsense get on the ballot in the first place - makes me think nobody bothered to check the U.S. constitution before allowing it through.
OhCurt 3 years ago
Attended in the California state capitol in Sacramento yesterday. Very moving. Hopefully the general population is re-thinking the issue now that it is apparent that it is not going away. Great video, Curt!
Sandguy99 3 years ago
That's fantastic, Brent - I searched the news online to see how many rallies there were but all I really found were TONS of clips here on YT. That alone tells me this was huge.

I hope Prop 8 is reversed in my lifetime.

Great footage Curt! Prop. 8 passing is such a tragedy. I have every faith that it will be reversed! Thanks, Grams

With even the governor supporting the CA supreme court kicking it to the curb, I can't see how this could last TOO much longer.

OhCurt 3 years ago
Damn Curt! you gave me goosebumps with this footage!! My favorite sign was the what the cluck? he's so right! chickens have more rights now, that is fucking insane!!
Zublime75 3 years ago
Interesting that we would improve conditions for specific food animals while rescinding rights for specific humans.
I'm still rolling my eyes over that one.
OhCurt 3 years ago
I support your right to protest an unfair prop., but when does it all end? If tomorrow Prop. 8 is overturned, then expect more protests the next day. Some issues will never be satisfactorily settled, look at Roe v Wade. I don't have the answer, just a meandering thought.
AeganMontgomery 3 years ago
What needs to happen at this point is it needs to be shot down in the courts, as for the rest of the legal process we'd best consult legal experts - many of whom were vocalizing their negative opinion of the proposition before it was time to vote.
The bottom line (as I understand it) is that once it's established that this went against the 14th amendment, they won't even HAVE another chance to push something like this through.
OhCurt 3 years ago
To love and Peace, Fear and Hate should have no right to vote on a human right. =(
Peace can only be had if every one wakes up to the fact we are all equals.
love peace and understanding
P.S. Curt, thanks for your view it means a lot to me. Much Respect=)

Curt...over history have any of these get-togethers actually produced anything, or is it just a way of venting peacefully? I understand the cause, just wonder if there might be a better route to getting it solved.
MGB1000 3 years ago
It will have to go through the courts as well, which I'm reading and hearing that it already has.
They cannot institute anything that goes against the 14th amendment and expect it to hold up.

What a great turnout, that's very good to see.
What the cluck, indeed :)
andymooseman 3 years ago
It was bigger than I expected it to be.
(where is Gary with a "that's what she said" line?)
OhCurt 3 years ago
I had to type in "mangene" to reply to your comment. Is YT trying to tell me something?
I see that Gary has already got that line in elsewhere. He just never misses an opportunity does he? :)
andymooseman 3 years ago
That's true, he never does.
And that, I believe, is also what SHE said.
OhCurt 3 years ago
Glad to see such a big turnout.
LeSaMilano 3 years ago
If you go to ASDA (walmart) there is a section of greeting cards where you can buy 'Mr. & Mr.' and 'Mrs. and Mrs.' wedding cards and newspapers have a civil partnership announcement section.
I don't think society has fallen apart yet.
LeSaMilano 3 years ago
Yup, if anything, Walmart will be our downfall.
What gets me is that the people favoring prop 8 actually made claims that those domestic partnership agreements carried the same rights as "marriage" - so either they're idiots or just liars (or both).

OhCurt 3 years ago
Looked like a pretty big turnout! I'm not sure if I quite got the "I Miss Tammy Fay" sign. Was Tammy Fay vocal about gay rights? Or maybe that was just a random general statement:)
3CoolKats 3 years ago
Good question. She was pretty vocal in her later years thanks to the friendships she formed with a lot of gay people.
And it also may have been just a random statement as well - it did make the whole thing rhyme after all.
:-D

A lot of us are feeling a deeper sense of pride now thanks to these rallies.
One thing I don't know yet this morning (still sipping coffee) is what the overall turnout was nationwide.
Good seeing you back here again, btw. Hope life's been treating you well.
