President Clinton has a right to put Chris Wallace in his place. His response was surprising, but he's right. What did Bush do when he took office about the Cole incident? Clinton deserves blame and he even admits he failed. Bush will never do that. He's too arogant.
What I find intersting is how none of the claims that Clinton was soft on terrorism ever came BEFORE 9/11 or during his presidency.
The GOP refused to support Clinton's anti-terror actions while president. They didn't claim the efforts were weak. They claimed he shouldn't have been doing it at all.
Very good job Bill! Throw the facts in his face and watch him squirm. Notice how Wallace asked Clinton about Bin Laden first, and after Clinton stated proof how he did try to locate Osama, Wallace quickly wanted to talk about "the Clinton Global Initiative." Geez, no wonder FOX's ratings have been declining since this interview!
Exactly. Notice how quick Wallace wanted to change the subject when Clinton referred to proof of him actively trying to search for Osama? Geez, no wonder FOX's ratings have been declining since this interview was done...

(part1) I want to comment on my comment, I don't hate the people who thinks Fox is a real news channel. It is sometimes just so amazing how blatantly Fox can bombard the American public with propaganda and get away with it. And I say this with concern and have nothing against Christians, but the tactics of the Bush administration is a lot like the church. Instead of God it's patriotism (even though they play the God card a lot, but this is also to promote "faith", believing with out question)
After watching this I wonder: which president would you rather have had during the 9/11 incident? A man who reads a childrens book upside down or a man who actually seems like he cares?
What Clinton did in that interview, was masterful. The most important thing of course is that Clinton's points were correct, and that he effectively exposed and criticized Wallace's dishonest tactics.
Beautiful defense, respond to those questions. Can u imagine Bush answering them? He will probably talk about people dieing in Africa or some crap. HA!
The Truth here is that Bush is lying throughout this clip. When you know the FACTS about all the incidents he's turning the tables on...it's actually very disturbing to see and EX-President lie so blatantly. Clinton was Prez. from 01/1993 - 01/2001. Google > "Significant Terrorist Incidents, 1961-2003." Thousands of Americans were victims of Arab terrorists during Clinton's term - CLINTON DID NOTHING ABOUT IT! And now he blames everyone else. What a crumb bastard.
and the fact is that the palestinians/Arabs are even worse at fighting than the french... but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop trying to convince them from getting their asses kicked repeatedly...
On CBS's Early Morning Show, Monday, the head of the CIA's bin Laden unit during the Clinton Administration, Michael Scheuer, said the al-Qaida leader " is alive today" because Clinton and his top lieutenants refuse to kill him. "It's just an incredible kind of situation," said Shceuer, "for the American people over the weekend to hear their former President mislead them."
Schuer says a lot of things, he has been very outspoken that not enough was done before 9/11, his job was bin Laden, and nothing else.
ironically he also mentions 'appeasement' - "I'm not talking about appeasement. There's no way out of this war at the moment," says Scheuer. "It's not a choice between war and peace. It's a choice between war and endless war. It's not appeasement. I think it's better even to call it American self-interest."

How do you feel about Bush saying in the 2000 debates that our military shouldn't be used for 'nation building'? Seems like he changed his mind...
contrast this to our current Israel policy, which is basically a rubber stamp for anything Israel does. Which is more effective in global diplomacy? Which has gotten more done? Clinton's achievements shouldn't be discounted - a faction of the PLO who has renounced violence and embraced a two state solution. A governement with democratic elections in Palestine for the first time ever. Even if they're corrupt and inept, its more than ever before.
Yes, you're right, Arab Israeli peace processes never work (except that Egypt one). We better just kill them all? Is that a better solution then negotiation?
Don't forget that Israel is its own country and not the 51st US state, I think they're the ones who ultimately are in control of their own fate. If Israel agrees to a peace plan, don't blame Clinton if the Palestinians can't hold up their end.
Was that Appeasement? we served as an honest broker on a deal between the Palestinians and Israel, which both sides agreed to. I think in the context of the last 49 years of Palestinian-Israeli relations, that event stands as one of the most (if not the only) positive steps in that ongoing nightmare.
"I am european.I do think Clinton was the best US president ever." Your first sentence explains why you think the second. Clintons policy of appeasement is the same reason Europe lost their butts to the Nazi's. Europeans lacked the backbone to stand up to what was right and sadly most Americans are that way now.

but we weren't talking about lies, truthfulness or what someone is saying about their actions after the fact, we were talking about the historical record and 'appeasement'. you're trying to change the subject.

Clinton tells him several times to "tell the truth"..Clinton wouldn't know the truth if it bit him on the ass! Watch the movie "Path to 9/11" if you want the truth. Why do you think Sandy Burger attempted to steal documents from the National Archives that indicated Clinton didnt so SQUAT!
Pathway to 9/11, I am assuming you speak of the ABC documentary, if not I apologize, has been discredited by many, it was made by a conservative, it's been widely reported that the facts in the "movie" are wrong
You think Bin Laden didn't know what he was doing when he attacked the United States under Bush? Seriously. He knew if he attacked with Clinton he'd be a dead man. Bin Laden isn't a fool. Bin Laden would have been torn apart by Clinton just like Bill Wallace was.
You have got to be kidding me... Clinton tried to prevent terrorists attacks on america before we were attacked, and failed. But at least he tried... Bush sat there untill the terrorists came at us and still hasnt gotten bin laden. Its time for the Right to stop blaming other people for their failure and own up to it. Thats all America needs right now.
Actually, he did succeed. Not with Bin Laden. But two major terrorist attacks were foiled by the Clinton Administration: the millennium plot and another that involved blowing up airliners.
Agree with everything else you say. Too bad the wingnuts are so allergic to documented evidence that they have to rely on cheap attacks from ABC and Faux News.
Fox had their ass handed to them this time LOL Go Clinton! Every one should listen and Pay attiention,if you vote for another four years of Bush and his like we as a free country may not make the 5th year the world hates us. NO man has ever done the US more harm than Bush ,dont talk VOTE and pray we see another Clinton in the White house.Oh and hey theorloguy stuff in your ass you dumd sob Bush only made another four years because he runs on terroer and terror alone!
Type in the search box on YouTube: Clinton Fox Interview. Fox has requested all videos of the actual interview to be removed from YouTube. What is Fox worried about? LOL! What did Clinton say that they do not want aired unless they filter the comments on it? Fuckin cowardly, neo-con fags. If they can not "spoon feed" what ur response should be - they cry, kick and whine. FOX IS A PLATFORM FOR NEO-CON NUTJOBS. Another proof. State run news ... a sign of dictatorship"
Don't bother reading this discussion thread. Just watch the entire interview from beginning to end. There is not a single thing that Clinton said there that was false. Sorry, all you right-wing shills. Chris Wallace had his hat handed to him.
Anyone who thinks that this is a great opportunity to see Chris Wallace squirm is fooling themselves. He is simply flabbergasted at the intensity of Bill Clinton's legacy rescue efforts, and his obsession with his "Right-wing conspiracy" theories. This man lead the free world for 8 YEARS in the face of a global jihad. 8 YEARS. The Clintons are a disgrace, as is the modern Democratic party. Rememeber this in the voting booth.
I love watching the Right wingers try and paint this interview as "Bill loosing his cool." Bill just called out Fox News for being shills for Republicans. Keep trying to spin it wing nuts.... Bill had Chrissy for lunch!
He's usually much more composed Bill was doing a serious back peddle job. I really think this will hurt the dems in the election. From what I can see, Chris was asking a good faith question. I think Bill has a point though about what he DID try to do, he should have just kept his cool.
God that was good! I need a ciggy now! Clinton is obviously just defending himself. And he does it so beautifully, and professionally without every shouting him down. God lets hope his wife wins this time. He will be the First Man.
I always thought Bush and Clinton were both to blame equally to no have not done enough to get Bin Laden... but now seeing putting himself so much on the defensive for responding to a single legitimate question... something is haunting him.
What are you talking about. Clinton is just telling the truth. He is trying to tell the Fox News audience to try reading a factual book, and read for themselves everything he did right and wrong. Then to read the truth about hw Bush, instead of swallowing all of the horse $hit Fox trys to sell.
I can't wait til november and the Dems finally take back congress, because the republicans are all out of Fear to push on america.
You love the dems so why would you have seen this interview differently... I personally try to see this sequence for what it is, forgetting fox news, Wallace never appeared to me to be an attack dog, just asking the kind of question I want a reporter to ask to anyone in position of power reps. or dems.
it wasn't a 'single legitimate question' it was a legitimate question couched in a big ball of smear (mentioning Clinton's actions in Somalia for example as somehow emboldening bin Laden).
And how do you think Bush would answer a similar question? What actions would he point to? take a look at this video: www youtube com/watch?v=ymtwoXGdp88
Sorry I could not see the video link you are providing. But just tell what was not legitimate in Wallace's question. Bin laden on Somalia comment is very known and the assertion of Clinton telling that all reps wanted to get out of Somalia fast is absolutly not the coverage I remember.
re: somalia - do a search for "URGING WITHDRAWAL OF AMERICAN TROOPS FROM SOMALIA (House of Representatives - October 06, 1993)" from the congressional record. there's more than that too...
From this text, the republican statement was made Apr.1993, Mogadishu happened Oct 4th 1993. What should we conclude? That this advice would have been followed we would not have ended with dead americans? The fact and the matter is that everytime the US has removed itself from conflicts right after a blow (under Reagan, under Carter or under Clinton) it has been interpreted as a victory for islamo fascist.
the original statement was made apr 93, but clinton is correct in that the republicans wanted to pull out immediately the day after. but recall that it was GHW Bush who got us into Somalia in the first place, not Clinton.
i'm glad at least you are realizing that this is not something unique to Clinton. If anything Reagan's pull out of Beirut was far worse. 241 US military killed by suicide bombers with no retaliation and a complete withdrawl withing months. compare that with Mogadishu...
i am not a clinton fan by any means, i never voted for him. but I strongly dislike the republicans trying to drum this kind of stuff up and pretend like they're the ones protecting us, when they were the ones who were fast asleep at the wheel - ("bin laden determined to attack inside the US", etc).
Ok... but what I take from this video is the defensiveness of Clinton in front of that kind of question. Lashing out at foxnews when you actually came in their studio and lashing out at the reporter trying to ask tough question makes no sense to me. Why he does not lash out at ABC instead for the docudrama makes no sense either.
The cruise missile story is a perfect example showing the lake of vision vis a vis terrorism from both party. Clinton was really waging when he choose to send a missile instead of commiting commandos to get Bin Laden and Reps were guilty of diminishing any actions taken against Bin Laden. As always no-one did enough, reps or dems and that's the truth. But if Clinton try to represent his legacy has having done more than others, I believe he is guilty of revisionism because it is not true.
I would prefer to hear from him that he has been distracted because of the relentless attacks from Reps on the Lewinski case and because of that he could not be at his max to protect the country than trying to paint himself as terror warrior that he has never be.
I haven't seen him lashing out at ABC... when was that and what did he say? What is the grudge about Foxnews? The lewinsky case? That has nothing to do with terrorism I believe and difamous commentaries were made on every channel during that period.
but he hasn't gone around trumpeting his Bin Laden track record up to this point in order to manufacture a legacy. Its only when these people from Bush's side (the ones who didn't do anything about bin Laden) come out against him, people like wallace give him these BS stacked questions... i think its fair to bring it up in your defense.
"I tried and I failed, but at least I tried." -- i don't see that as revisionism at all.
Many act as if the southern accent bush has is reason enough to call Bush a feeble president. It really doesnt matter what presidents speaking styles are. The fact is, it doesnt matter what Dick Clark thinks because he was released well before any of the important legislation Bush instated. The question that set off clinton was a just one, and any moderate conservative will realize how feeble this make Clinton look. Fox News does have a bias, but are you saying no other media station Doesnt?
How inappropriate. Have you read the reports in today's papers showing that Iraq is a bredding ground for terrorists? The current administration is responisble for a war of choice in which over 6000 Iraqis died in July and August. What was Mr. Bin Laden doing during this time if not training more terrorists and planning more attacks. Go Bush for sure! Excellent idea.
I have always shouted out that the USA never had a better president than Clinton. A wise man with intelligence. Why he was ever attacked for having some fun with Lewinsky beats me. If a minister would do that here, I and most of the people would ask him: "Was it good?" Yes? Good... now get back to work!"
The fact is that Clinton did go off his rocker. He's a great man, was a great president, but he clearly had a chip on his shoulder. One question --actually quite legitimate-- sparks a 15 minute tirade. Not too becoming. He gave it to Wallace, alright, but he made himself look bad.
um, I hear you but I don't think he looked bad - just strong and pro-active. He wanted to put a stopper in it and answer the question in full once and for all.
Wallace is an attack poodle, but he's in over his head taking on the Big Dog. Clinton made Wallace his bitch. It's amusing how hard the right wing noise machine is trying to 'spin' this into 'Clinton freaks out, Clinton goes crazy'-- all you have to do is watch and you can see who's in control and who's not. Being appropriately pissed off at the Bush neo-con laziness and bullshit being shoved off on him is NOT the same thing as being out of control by any means.
Refreshing to see a president who can speak full, intelligent sentences that actually have substance--instead of the soundbytes of the last few years. ...finally, an IQ. Clinton was on top of it.
chris wallace claims he never attacked clinton... but merely asked legitimate questions.. now who on earth wouldnt think he was not being offended if he was constantly bombarded to quote unquote and defend his statements on fox news? what a dumbass... that wallace guy got owned by clinton.... yeah.. i so damn agree.. i really wonder what bush would do if he was in clinton's place? pick his nose or scratch his ass?
Wow, I forgot that our president could be an articulate and concise speaker. I think Chris Wallace needs to order a new asshole...his just got ripped to shreds
I've read Against All Enemies by Richard Clark. Clinton is right.
I wish somebody would dig up the comments by people at the time
of the incident in Somalia. A lot of people in goverment would look really stupid. The man made one huge mistake. Getting head in the Oval office. He was afraid to do anything because it would appear as "Wag the Dog".
I am a dyed-in-the-whole republican physician, having run for state legislature in Maine in 1976.... I think Reagon did an admirable job overall, even though he was probably declining mentally in his second term.... I hope McCain wins the Republican nomination.... I say all this to set the context of "who I am..." So here it is: I love Bill Clinton and think he was an awesome president.... I wish he would/could run again!
There is an excellent example of this in an interview with an Irish station. I think he says let me finish more times than he says terrorist in a day - so you know its often. Also, he interrupts the woman so many times its pathetic. Chris Wallace - my vote for ass clown of the day.
President Clinton has a right to put Chris Wallace in his place. His response was surprising, but he's right. What did Bush do when he took office about the Cole incident? Clinton deserves blame and he even admits he failed. Bush will never do that. He's too arogant.

Wilkeshatesyou 5 years ago
Actually, he did succeed. Not with Bin Laden. But two major terrorist attacks were foiled by the Clinton Administration: the millennium plot and another that involved blowing up airliners.
Agree with everything else you say. Too bad the wingnuts are so allergic to documented evidence that they have to rely on cheap attacks from ABC and Faux News.

State run news ... a sign of dictatorship"
jellin1964 5 years ago
Don't bother reading this discussion thread. Just watch the entire interview from beginning to end. There is not a single thing that Clinton said there that was false. Sorry, all you right-wing shills. Chris Wallace had his hat handed to him.
Rakafrat 5 years ago
You are sooooooooo wrong..Clinton is the most disrespectful, defensive liar.

Nobody does it better than Clinton (and Olbermann!)
bjm1966 5 years ago
Anyone who thinks that this is a great opportunity to see Chris Wallace squirm is fooling themselves. He is simply flabbergasted at the intensity of Bill Clinton's legacy rescue efforts, and his obsession with his "Right-wing conspiracy" theories. This man lead the free world for 8 YEARS in the face of a global jihad. 8 YEARS. The Clintons are a disgrace, as is the modern Democratic party. Rememeber this in the voting booth.
theorioleguy 5 years ago
I totally agree with you! Body language and his defensive stance indicate how guilty Clinton is...Wallace was stunned by Clinton's response.

I love watching the Right wingers try and paint this interview as "Bill loosing his cool." Bill just called out Fox News for being shills for Republicans. Keep trying to spin it wing nuts.... Bill had Chrissy for lunch!
Schtu 5 years ago
He's usually much more composed Bill was doing a serious back peddle job. I really think this will hurt the dems in the election. From what I can see, Chris was asking a good faith question. I think Bill has a point though about what he DID try to do, he should have just kept his cool.
Scoobie22 5 years ago
Cracking stuff, if only the current dems had the nads to take on fox like this.

God that was good! I need a ciggy now! Clinton is obviously just defending himself. And he does it so beautifully, and professionally without every shouting him down. God lets hope his wife wins this time. He will be the First Man.

His wife is a republican in dems clothing. That's the last thing we need. Clinton was better but he wasn't nearly progressive enough.

I always thought Bush and Clinton were both to blame equally to no have not done enough to get Bin Laden... but now seeing putting himself so much on the defensive for responding to a single legitimate question... something is haunting him.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
"...something is haunting him."
What are you talking about. Clinton is just telling the truth. He is trying to tell the Fox News audience to try reading a factual book, and read for themselves everything he did right and wrong. Then to read the truth about hw Bush, instead of swallowing all of the horse $hit Fox trys to sell.
I can't wait til november and the Dems finally take back congress, because the republicans are all out of Fear to push on america.
jimbo24145 5 years ago
You love the dems so why would you have seen this interview differently... I personally try to see this sequence for what it is, forgetting fox news, Wallace never appeared to me to be an attack dog, just asking the kind of question I want a reporter to ask to anyone in position of power reps. or dems.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
it wasn't a 'single legitimate question' it was a legitimate question couched in a big ball of smear (mentioning Clinton's actions in Somalia for example as somehow emboldening bin Laden).
And how do you think Bush would answer a similar question? What actions would he point to? take a look at this video: www youtube com/watch?v=ymtwoXGdp88
xiaoka 5 years ago
Sorry I could not see the video link you are providing. But just tell what was not legitimate in Wallace's question. Bin laden on Somalia comment is very known and the assertion of Clinton telling that all reps wanted to get out of Somalia fast is absolutly not the coverage I remember.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
try to search for "Ben-Veniste Wolf".
re: somalia - do a search for "URGING WITHDRAWAL OF AMERICAN TROOPS FROM SOMALIA (House of Representatives - October 06, 1993)" from the congressional record. there's more than that too...
xiaoka 5 years ago
From this text, the republican statement was made Apr.1993, Mogadishu happened Oct 4th 1993. What should we conclude? That this advice would have been followed we would not have ended with dead americans? The fact and the matter is that everytime the US has removed itself from conflicts right after a blow (under Reagan, under Carter or under Clinton) it has been interpreted as a victory for islamo fascist.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
the original statement was made apr 93, but clinton is correct in that the republicans wanted to pull out immediately the day after. but recall that it was GHW Bush who got us into Somalia in the first place, not Clinton.
i'm glad at least you are realizing that this is not something unique to Clinton. If anything Reagan's pull out of Beirut was far worse. 241 US military killed by suicide bombers with no retaliation and a complete withdrawl withing months. compare that with Mogadishu...
xiaoka 5 years ago
I am not a fan of dems or a reps or clinton or Bush anyway
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
i am not a clinton fan by any means, i never voted for him. but I strongly dislike the republicans trying to drum this kind of stuff up and pretend like they're the ones protecting us, when they were the ones who were fast asleep at the wheel - ("bin laden determined to attack inside the US", etc).
xiaoka 5 years ago
Ok... but what I take from this video is the defensiveness of Clinton in front of that kind of question. Lashing out at foxnews when you actually came in their studio and lashing out at the reporter trying to ask tough question makes no sense to me. Why he does not lash out at ABC instead for the docudrama makes no sense either.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
they did lash out at ABC, but in his mind these two situations are part of the same right wing push of revisionism... and I agree with him.
(if nothing else I think every Republican politician who said the words 'wag the dog' in '98 should have been kicked in the nuts after 9/11)
xiaoka 5 years ago
The cruise missile story is a perfect example showing the lake of vision vis a vis terrorism from both party. Clinton was really waging when he choose to send a missile instead of commiting commandos to get Bin Laden and Reps were guilty of diminishing any actions taken against Bin Laden. As always no-one did enough, reps or dems and that's the truth. But if Clinton try to represent his legacy has having done more than others, I believe he is guilty of revisionism because it is not true.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
I would prefer to hear from him that he has been distracted because of the relentless attacks from Reps on the Lewinski case and because of that he could not be at his max to protect the country than trying to paint himself as terror warrior that he has never be.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
I haven't seen him lashing out at ABC... when was that and what did he say? What is the grudge about Foxnews? The lewinsky case? That has nothing to do with terrorism I believe and difamous commentaries were made on every channel during that period.
NOMADESIGN 5 years ago
but he hasn't gone around trumpeting his Bin Laden track record up to this point in order to manufacture a legacy. Its only when these people from Bush's side (the ones who didn't do anything about bin Laden) come out against him, people like wallace give him these BS stacked questions... i think its fair to bring it up in your defense.
"I tried and I failed, but at least I tried." -- i don't see that as revisionism at all.
xiaoka 5 years ago
"trumpeting" does not seems to be the fair tone to use to describe honnestly your own record.

Only reason he wants to talk about Clinton Global Commission is because he was getting eaten alive by Slick Willy.
mochako12 5 years ago
The fact is that Clinton did go off his rocker. He's a great man, was a great president, but he clearly had a chip on his shoulder. One question --actually quite legitimate-- sparks a 15 minute tirade. Not too becoming. He gave it to Wallace, alright, but he made himself look bad.
KingCreole 5 years ago
um, I hear you but I don't think he looked bad - just strong and pro-active.

Being appropriately pissed off at the Bush neo-con laziness and bullshit being shoved off on him is NOT the same thing as being out of control by any means.
malixe25 5 years ago

I've read Against All Enemies by Richard Clark. Clinton is right.
I wish somebody would dig up the comments by people at the time
of the incident in Somalia. A lot of people in goverment would look really stupid. The man made one huge mistake. Getting head in the Oval office. He was afraid to do anything because it would appear as "Wag the Dog".
