To go to the moon takes about 4 days at a certain speed; go faster and it will take 2 or 3 days. If you go slower it can take a week, a month or a year. What ever the time lapse that's how much older the astronaut is when returning to earth. Traveling at the speed of light is no different; it is just motion, extremely fast but motion never the less. The only thing that can effect you would be matter and gravity; with out protection you would die!
Time has no effect on matter; matter effects matter, light effects matter and gravity effects matter. Time is a way of measuring the movement of matter.
has it been proven? when did we ever move something close enough to the speed of light in order for it to observably change times effect on the object?
No, not radiocarbon. There are particles like a neutron, that live (before they decay into a proton and an electron) for 18 minutes at rest, but in the particle accelerators they last for hours and fit Einstein's equation. The particle accelerator wouldn't affect the measurement of time with C-14 because of the longer time involved. The space program has also tested time dilation in spacecraft sent out of the solar system.
this is stupid.. what equation is that.. and what context did it come from.. is it for measuring a duration.. shouldnt distance be a factor then? or is this equation specifically for "time dilation"? if so, then how is the equation derived if time dilation has never been observed? i think he needs a better explanation and evidence, especially to tie it into the vague notion of infinity conveyed in the scripture. this is not a good study of the concept..
my granda once told if you traveled at the speed of light you will be isolated from the original time........turns out he was right to stop time you need to be traveling at the speed of light
hey believeit1051, i just want to add somthing,, i think you dont understand which is constant and which is not,, is there a factor affecting the speed of light or can there be a factor affecting time???
answer is,, there is no factor that will affect the speed of light so thats what it makes it constant, how about time>> yeah there is,, time compared to a speed of light?? which is clearer?? i think, time was made for us to have a guide about the rotation and revolution of our planet,,
last night I watched a documentary on the history channel about that topic. I ended up here while trying to find it again.
It is widely accepted in the scientific community that time is is malleable and for w/e reason velocity affects it.
Their proof is that clocks on satellites tend to stray from the time on land based clocks so engineers have to factor that in when designing gps for cars
so in theory; If speed is 0 and distance is 0, then time should be 0. But this isn't true, anyone want to explain it to me, because I asked my physics teacher and he didn't have an explanation.
Every time you look at the night sky you are looking into the past because even the light from even the closest star (other than the sun) takes 4.2 years to reach us.
TIME TRAVEL...Is time travel possible. The equation for time illustrates the exact statement that answers whether time travel is possible? I ask again - Is time travel possible ? According to the equation it is. Thats what we are talikng about...rite
...it is true time is proportional to speed, how fast you get anywhere determines your time of arrival. At light speed only marginal fractions of speed change can literally save thousands of years. Going beyond light speed changes the space/time continuum into another dimension.
That's BS. If it would take him 4 3/10 years to reach the star then in that amount of time he would age 4 and 3/10 years. Time doesn't slow down just because you move extemely fast. It just means you cover more distance in a short amount of time.
I'm not religious but what he was talking about is true. His allusion to the Bible was rather bogus though. The Bible gives us no scientific evidence for anything.

thats not exactly true. time wouldnt stop or slow down for you if you were going extremly fast, it would be as though you were moving through it faster relative to someone on earth though.
Moving at high speeds does change the speed of time; an atomic clock set on a large orbiting satellite lost around 23 minutes orbiting the earth because of the extreme speed... strange eh?
I agree with you on that; This man is reciting theories that were popular in the mid to late 20th century. I had this argument with a physics professor in the mid 80s and he gave me the same line of crap. I asked, " so if you send me out and it takes me 10 years round trip at the speed of light, i'll be 1000 years old?" They believed that one would age 10 years traveling to the nearest star at the SOL while 1000s of years passed on earth. That makes no sense.
I think you have just taken this biblical text too far. The person who wrote the text probably just wrote it because he wanted to make god come across as a person who controls time, hence let them know that god is this powerful. Please do not try to intermix science and religion, because we all know deep down which one is more correct.
when i first heard the idea of god as a child i thought to myself. wow. so i need god to be saved? what if i was born in the forest and nobody told me about god. i would not be saved?
it's a huge lie many people believe i think. and it's amazing to think of it like that. cuz its' amazingly true. and unbelievable. in a scary confuse type of way.
My mistake. I must have had 2 windows open and commented on the wrong one.
But to comment on this one. I agree on everything except we could never, under present understanding of the laws of physics, travel AT the speed of light. Maybe .999 of C but never 1 C. But I understnand the point being made. OK...good. So?
Yes, there are some physical limitations that theoretically make it physically impossible to ever travel at light speed except in Star Wars movies. But it sure would be cool.
If you watched this video you know that John said nothing about the age of the earth. He is talking about a scientific principle, not a historical or religious concept. If you want to learn about 'Determining the Age of the Earth' watch the PowerVine video by that name.

Time dilation has been tested and confirmed many times since the 1950s in particle accelerators, such as those at CERN.

um.....thats einsteins special relativity and it has been proven in the real world.

Special Relativity is not a proven fact. it's a theory with lots of evidence supporting it. also v is velocity

D= Distance; S= Speed; T= Time
D=S/T
so S=DT
so T=S/D

time travel is not possible if you're talking about YOU walking around in the past because of paradoxs
but time viewing is kinda of possible

So what are you saying? The Earth is really 12,000 years old? 6days x 1000 = 6,000 + 6,000years from adam to today?
So what. It took god 6,000 years to make the earth and the universe. That still dosent add up to the real age of the Earth and the Universe.
