Ironically, I can see The Doctor and Donna as a couple before The Doctor and Rose, though I don't think The Doctor should have that kind of relationship with any companion.

The best relationships, though, are when you fall in love with your best friend, and I believed The Doctor when he referred to Donna that way. The only other one it could be is Sarah Jane. (though the first Doctor definitely bonded with Ian)

I like all the companions in different ways, but I like Donna's stories bcos they r just mates. The Doctor and Rose is a love story as is the Doctor and Martha (albeit a different kind) but these 2 are just fun bcos they are just mates so they can joke around abit more and Donna can really put the Doctor in his place when she wants. It really hit me how much I liked the dynamic when the doctor called her his best friend in the End of Time

That's why he keeps repeating it saying it, "A mate" a friend. Donna keeps saying "to". Just changing the third letter in the sentence makes all the difference.

Did the BBC put this scene in just to confuse all the Non-British viewers? When I first saw it I thought the Doctor was going crazy or something saying he wanted to settle down and get married. I watched it a couple times before I remembered Harry Potter where Harry talks about Ron as his "mate" and deduced the meaning from there. on that note my friend you are definitely correct. first time i saw the doctor it was with either 8th 0r 7th. it was amazing. and i must admit when i was watching it first time i saw the tardis i turned to my mom and said 'mom! its bigger on the inside!' lol no lie. but it was eccleston that stole my heart, and tennant had my absolute attention. :-) i was wondering though where i could find the season 1 through season four dvd's. definitely want to catch up and watch missed episodes.
